  1. CAUTION if you are using this discussion to justify operating outside of placarded limits ... make sure your medical insurance is paid up. My question was geared more towards canopy design and being bored.... Mainly just the being bored part. Didnt know if manufacturers really ever pushed their products to the point of catastrophic failure like Manley Blutler did while testing his HX Rounds and weather or not airspeed had more to do with the failure then the suspended weight. The reason I say airspeed is the fact that ive seen very few pilots weighing 400lbs. I think I would be more concerned if it were a 200lb pilot leaving an aircraft at over 150kts. But from what you all are saying it looks as though shock load has more to do with testing a canopy. Dont know if my orignal question has any validity, this is just the stuff I sit around and ponder while Im bored at work. Im gonna need a bigger hammer....
  2. I won a 50% coupon for a Wings back in 2004 at a boogie and at that time I had to go through the manufacturer. BigWay is totally correct, you are kinda waisting your money if you pay much more then a $100 for it. At the time my DZ could have gotten me the same rig at 25% and I had the choice of 50% with the coupon or 25% with the DZ but not both. Of course since I won the coupon and didnt pay a cent I used the coupon and still payed $1240. That was in 2004 and I believe the base price was alot less then it is now. SOOOO that being said a month or so after I got my rig I saw people trying to sell these things for $300-400 which is a total rip because by the time you are done you just payed the same amount you would of by going through a good dealer and now someone else has your $300... Just my 2 cents worth, hope it helps Ok.... I just checked the wings site and a base rig is going up to $1800 by April 1st It may be worth a little more these days (if it is still valid, check with Sunrise) Base price when I got mine was $1200 and then in 02' it was about $850 if i remember correctly. Guess I better hang on to my rig Im gonna need a bigger hammer....
  3. Thanks Seth, thats exactly what I was looking for I just couldnt find anything in the forums that listed this type of information. To me it looks almost like a trade off in some ways, at least its that way to get the same amount of shock load on the canopy. Thanks for the help Im gonna need a bigger hammer....
  4. I guess this question would be geared towards people that have experience drop testing canopy's or have done alot of testing/manufacturing in their days. My question is: which will more than likely cause a canopy to fail (structural failure) weight or airspeed? Or is it an even trade-off? Could you make a canopy fail if you toss it out with 4 times its designed working load at 80kts or maybe the same could be said by underloading a canopy and chucking it out at 280kts? Or am I totally looking at this the wrong way or need a Phd in mathmatics to really know the answer? Im not worried about flight performance or soft landings after deployment of course just mearly interested in whether weight or airspeed decide the final judgement. Thanks in advance if anyone can comment or give a confirmed answer. Im gonna need a bigger hammer....
  5. I use to jump a W8 with a Spectre 135 and it fit just right, I dont think it would really be worth your time and effort trying to cram a canopy into a container that wasnt meant to hold it. I think you would just be putting to much wear on your canopy and container because you might have to stand on top of it to close it. Unless maybe your sabre has 1000 jumps on it and is nicely broken in..... then you might have a chance. As for there being a size change with Wings I think the only thing they are changing is adding a -1,or -2 to make the main container smaller to allow for smaller mains and same size reserves. I always just call Sunrise, Im sure they will give you a strait answer. Im gonna need a bigger hammer....

    Tempo TSO

So ive been reading around and it seems as though PISA drop tested the Tempo in 2001 with the new reinforcement tape to TSO23d standards but it was never published as such. So if thats true then I found my answer. Thanks for all the help guys Im gonna need a bigger hammer....

    Tempo TSO

Is the PISA Tempo TSO'd under 23c or 23d? Ive read some earlier posts where people say that have a TSO under 23d though I looked at a copy of a manual that says 23c. Did PISA change the way they manufactured the Tempo just before they merged with Aerodyne and therefore apply for a different TSO? Are there certain models that have spanwise reinforcement? I checked the FAA website but it doesnt give me much other then model numbers, Thanks, J-Rock Im gonna need a bigger hammer....
  8. I bought these risers used, they are brand new but do not have any toggles, by the photos can anyone tell me where i can get toggles for them. Thanks in advance, J-Rock Im gonna need a bigger hammer....
  9. Dude go with the mac. Especially if you are going to do video and photo editing. Though I dont have alot of experience with PC editing, it seems as though the Mac was designed for that type of stuff. I will agree with Phreezone on the OS. Im not going to jump up and down about that but i dont have any complaints about the video editing part. I love Adobe photo shop and Final Cut. Both have worked great for me! 10. Well i have a PISA Heatwave 170 i use in my birdman rig. I put about 200 jumps on this main and it always seems to spank the crap out of me. I had and H-Mod done to it by Joe Bennett when it had about 10 jumps on it and it seemed to slow the openings a little. Through video and especially footage from my belly mount cam it seems as though the slider is not doing the job. I heard that PISA made the same size slider for the 150 as they did for the 170 and 190. I like everything about this canopy except for the openings, heck my Crossfire 119 slider is bigger than the Heatwaves. I guess my question is, is were do i get a bigger slider made, are there riggers out there that will do it or can i get one from a manufacturer. Im tempted to take the slider off of my Crossfire to see if a bigger slider will help. Ive seen alot of pocket sliders of the Jedi's, Does the pocket make that much of a difference? Thanks for any suggestions, J-Rock Im gonna need a bigger hammer....

    Vladiball

As soon as you come to SGC, thanks for the info by the way, have you had a chance to jump your ball yet? Im gonna need a bigger hammer....

    Vladiball

Just wondering if anyone out there has figured out an exact way of making a vladiball fall at freefly speeds. I just got one and have been reading some threads. It seems that about 400g of weight is good for belly flying, but what about freeflying? Anyone have some good HARD data? Tail lenght, weight etc. Thanks, J-Rock Im gonna need a bigger hammer....
  13. Well i had a demo of the Nitro this weekend and found the pack volume even with the non slick ZP to be very large. I was packing a 135 into about the same size as my heatwave 170. One of my buddies had one too and said his 120 was about the same pack volume as his Stiletto 150. I think its because those canopies are built like tanks, literally. So maybe thats why the pack volume is much bigger. J-Rock Im gonna need a bigger hammer....
  14. I posted a question about dynamic corners on this forum (two pages back) there are some good pictures of different mods on there, and some comments from people that have had the mod done, check that out if you get a chance, J-Rock Im gonna need a bigger hammer....
  15. For now just go with the longer bridle, as for packing the bag at a full 90 degrees i wouldn't do that unless you get the dynamic corner mod, or so i here. But for now i would recomend getting the longer bridle ZP pilot chute, you can get them from Jimmy Cazer, i got one of his birdman PC's from Skykat for about $80. If your bags is rectangular try getting the bag in the container with the grommet as hi as possible, i put mine at about a 45-60 degree angle in the container, it seems to work and pack a little better. LQRS

Funny this was brought up cause i was talking to a friend of mine about them yesterday. I have a Skyflyer with the LQRS, and i have used it to "try" to untwist myself out of line twists. I dont base jump, so i really can comment on that part. I wasnt really pleased with the way it worked on that use, but i would get it on my next suit. The only reason i didnt like it was the fact that when i opened in line twists i pulled my LQRS and kicked my leg out of the suit, which put my canopy in a spin, harness shift possibly? It was very benificial at landing time cause i didnt have time to get my legs out. My thought on this is that if you are flying a birdman suit you should have every cutaway option cause you never know when you will need it, whether it worked "perfectly" or not. 17. It is in LaBelle which is 20mi east of Ft. Meyers, its about 2hrs from the tunnel, but thats a rough estamate, its Jims new DZ. Oh and it is on March 19th 20th and 21st, sorry i sould have put that in my frist post! J-Rock Im gonna need a bigger hammer....
  18. Just wondering if there are going to be any bird people at the CASA boogie at Skydive southwest florida at LaBelle. I will be their for the entire boogie and was looking for people to flock with! J-Rock Im gonna need a bigger hammer....
  19. I use to jump a Hornet with dacron lines and ive heard since the they are stretchy they are a little more forgiving on the first initial "snatch" when your canopy deploys. I noticed my Hornet opened alot softer than other ones i jumped with Specta. Ive seen some camera flyers do this cause it seems to help if you have alot of equipment on your head. Oh and thanks for your help guys. J-Rock Im gonna need a bigger hammer....
  20. Just looking to see if anyone out there jumps a highly loaded spectre (about 1.5:1). Curious as to the stablility and how it works on birdman jumps. I need to downsize, so im looking for a canopy that will work well with camera and birdman jumps as well as having a little bit of performance! J-Rock Im gonna need a bigger hammer....
  21. Well you can probably stick with the canopy you have if you get a pilot chute with a longer bridle, ive heard that has helped alot of people. But you generally want to stay away from the elipticals, go for a Spectre, Sabre2, Triathalon, somthing like that, I had a spinning mal on a lightly loaded eliptical about 1.1 and had a very stable pull too. My general view after my mal was that the equipment these days is awsome, though i dont think it was designed with us birdy men in mind, especially with the faster suits out there recently Im gonna need a bigger hammer....
  22. Go to www.viosport.com i bought a cam off of them and have the wide angle lens with it. It is just as wide as the Kenko .43 that i use when i have the standard cam up top. They also have some of the best prices And there cameras are in a nice billit aluminum housing that is water resistant, great for skiing, J-Rock Im gonna need a bigger hammer....
  23. I was going to have Jerry at SSK do it or like you i can probaby do it myself though i just lazy right at the moment, but i think im going to go ahead and get a different pilotchute first, also thanks to everyone for you help and the good answers! Im gonna need a bigger hammer....
  24. I have a G3 and have heard of people getting their rigs modified with dynamic corners, just wondering if anyone out there has pictures of this mod so that i can take to a friend that is a master rigger. I also was curious if it was more than just undoing the seams in the corners of the container? Thanks for any help that you all can give, JRock Im gonna need a bigger hammer....
  25. You can thank Jerry McDonald for that one, kind of ironic that my first save was my own ass, but who better to test the old reserve. I was thinkin about that jump the other day and kinda wished i didnt cut any wings away so i could go back into full flight for a sec before pulling the reserve maybe next time Im gonna need a bigger hammer....
