  1. Thanks, i'll give that a go. --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  2. Anyone on here have experience on El Cap, or any other similar big wall? Or know anyone that does? I'm looking to ask a few basic questions. Thanks! --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  3. Is that one of the machines they use on cruise ships to clean the smoking suites to non-smoking suites between guests? I've never been on a cruise but my ex-inlaws are avid cruisers and huge no smoke smell freaks (like me). They swear whatever they do totally works. Good luck!!! Well, I went back the next day, and it was better, but no dice. Still smelled 50% of what I smelled the day before. I argued that they need to let me paint for free, and replace the carpet, or I'm going elsewhere - I can't live like this. I ended up negotiating for another room - and ended up getting a better deal as a result. Now I live on the second floor - which also means less scorpions, so I'm all set. --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  4. Wow, so glad I caught this thread! This is fantastic, and great quality! --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  5. I've never had to deal with this, and some of you probably have some experience. btw, I don't smoke. I was about to sign a lease agreement with a townhouse complex, when I asked to see the apartment first (they weren't ready yet last week - require 1 week for all apartments between renters). I went into the apartment, nice and clean, no complaints, I love it. But, there is a definite stale smoke smell. I told them they need to fix it. They said they will clean it out today, with an "ozone?" machine - no humans can be in the apartment, they remove all the oxygen and replace it. This seems to me like it may temporarily fix the problem, but not the cause (the carpet, I guess). I am weary about judging it tomorrow and signing the lease if the problem will return in 2 days. I would prefer keeping my location, although I'm open to switching apartments if possible. The question then is - is it possible to remove the smell completely? Or is it something that is stuck there forever? --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  6. I'll do some looking, may just pay off. Here's a good story I had sent to me recently (attached). --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  7. Hilarious, although I don't envy your knowledge. A few years ago, I was driving through B F Texas, on my way to Denver from Deland, when my check engine light came on. This was at 3am on a Sunday morning, in the middle of nowhere. So I stopped and checked the engine, listened to it, and thought there may be something amiss. So I slowly drove to the next town to stop at a gas station and take a better look. I pulled into Quanah at a Shell station where there were some lights. There was NO ONE there. So I parked in front of the door where the lights were so I could see. Engine running, me in the car, looking for the AAA number to make sure they can tow me back out of the middle of nowhere, in case my car blew up. Just then, someone knocks on my window. Scared the hell out of me. The town sheriff. He was rounder than Chief Wiggum. "Do you know where you're parked?" I ended up getting a ticket for parking in a handicapped spot, in a town with less than 3000 people in it, 3 a.m. on a Sunday morning. While I was in the car. While the engine was running. With engine problems. After I exchanged a few letters with the Judge of Quanah TX, and she spelled "cited" as "sited", I realized my case was lost. I paid the $150, which was probably a good chunk of their town's revenues that year. I haven't been to Texas since, and haven't been given a whole lot of incentive to counter the sour taste I got in my mouth the last time I passed through. --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  8. Yeah i'll probably just cut it up into two or three payments and pay them their money - not worth the risk of having something like that sit on your record. to answer your question, yes. I have considered not speeding. About 5 seconds before dropping the accelerator pedal to the floor. Have you considered not jumping out of planes? come on, gotta have a little fun every now and then! --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  9. No way that's the pilot's own plane!! --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  10. I am licensed in CO. Last winter, my radar detector broke, and I waited a while to get it fixed. I got two tickets in that period that I likely would not have gotten. But now I'm stuck with a tough choice, and need to know the consequences. I was pulled over driving home out of Manhattan going 71 in a 55. 3a.m., must have been a bored cop. I don't blame him, but it's a bit silly. I was going slower than the truck & trailer in front of me. I paid the fine (~$150), since that was what was on the ticket, and nothing more. Then, a few weeks later received a letter that I lost points (I think 3) and need to pay $100 each, at $100/yr over the next 3 years. I paid $100. Earlier this year, I was pulled over in upstate NY for going ~82 on the interstate (65 or 70mph). I paid the ~$170 fine to the local town, since that was ALL that was shown on the ticket. Then, a few weeks later, the same letter - $300. Except this time, $500 all at once. The outstanding balance. How can they charge me such ridiculous sums of money and not show it on the ticket? I pay that money for breaking the law, not some other reason - so they need to disclose it to me. If I knew it was that much, I likely would have gone to court and fought it (especially the Manhattan one). I haven't paid, and received a letter that my license will be suspended in NY State. I'm moving west next week, probably won't be driving in NY for a loooong time. What are the consequences of not paying the surcharge for my points? What is the worst case for not paying money they didn't disclose I owe, up front? --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!

    SLC

Definitely thought about it already. I have a few weeks inbetween jobs, and used to live out in Seattle - it's where I learned to paraglide at Tiger Mountain by Issaquah. Maybe i'll take a drive/stop over. --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!

So I got an offer in Scottsdale, a better job for what I want to be doing vs. SLC. I'm pretty sure i'm going to accept - just want to think about it for a little while. More space than where I live in the Northeast. Maybe now I'll finally get a dualsport to rip through the dessert on my way to Eloy. --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  13. I want to finally buy myself a mountain bike. With many very expensive bikes out there, do I really need to spend $1000 or more for a good bike? Although there are some, I don't see too many options in the $700-$1000 range. If I buy one of these, will I suffer certain drawbacks that is absolutely worth spending a lot more? Guess I can always go craigslist it too. --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  14. In a loop you can ascend over the top, in a tumble, you're tumbling... --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  15. pretty much the same for skydivers I'm not sure that average whuffo chicks dig skydivers that much, because it's done only for sport, and is often perceived as crazy. Firefighters on the other hand, take their risks to save lives, which is far more cool than just doing it for fun. best combo: Smokejumper. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuTpLPPjfQY&feature=related Except then you're stuck in Missoula, or rural Oregon, and that defeats the purpose. --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!

  18. Are there any firefighters here? Sitting around a fire this weekend, someone convinced me that I should seriously think about becoming one. I'm considering volunteering (once I find a more permanent place to call home). I've read things here and there about it, and seems to me that it would be a great job for not only safety & emergency skills but mainly that you have large amounts of free time. Continued education as well. It may not pay fantastic, but on a daily basis (I assume you get to sleep some of your 24 hour shifts) it's a pretty good equation. And after some time and a few promotions the salaries are very good. Add in the benefits (great healthcare and retirement after 20 - 25 years of service) and it becomes a pretty attractive option. What am I missing? --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  19. Damn! So what size wing does it take to foot launch ten people at 11+k ft? And what's more, to then land that huge wing with just his own weight. Watch how he gets no penetration on landing, but the glider just floats back when he's touched down. And then the tandem comes cruising in. --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  20. Gas stations are full of cheap and sometimes good-fitting options. I browse through them every time I enter the door. They may not last for years, but at $10-$15 who cares. --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  21. HA! That's crazy. I've been flying on and off for a couple of years and still wondering how the tumble is initiated, going from spiral to over the top. I was going to post a video of what I thought was the world record (solo, that is) at ~120, but then found this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rlr5HiWZbrc And this is amazing as well. We should try it out of a plane sometime. http://vimeo.com/1684334 --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  22. Oh yeah, years ago when I was a kid I used to read Mad magazine. There was a great comic strip in there one time where you saw this drop dead gorgeous bombshell figure off in the distance, and she sees you and starts walking toward you. Finally you're face to face with her and there's ugly pimples all over her face with crooked teeth and all kinds of crap. Ewww.... Pretty from far, but far from pretty. --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  23. I've been wondering who the real people are behind strangers wanting to be my friend. Strangers with names like "Shoebox Johnson"... --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  24. Slow day at work... Last night a roommate came home and made the comment that he's rarely met anyone as laid back as I am. He then wanted to know if it's the South African or the Australian in me. I've spent some of my formative years in each of these places. So, which of these is the most laid back? --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
