I'm glad you said that - I had not seen that. I am going to have to give the jumpers at my Cessna dz a heads up. I wish they would publish these potential changes so that people could chime in with thoughts beforehand. If they do I have not seen it.

Would be great if they did that. Even the FAA puts things out for comment.

  2. Seems everyone took away something different from this. LOL. I saw the summary and I thought USPA hates small dropzones. The new requirements for B and C license could be tough if you are at c182 DZ. 50 formation jumps with 10 being 4 way or larger when that is the total capacity of the jump ship. Can be hard to schedule all that at a small dropzone. Honestly, even at a larger Cessna dropzone it could be hard to get all these jumps in in only 200 jumps.

I know some people have their complaints when it comes to USPA but I don't think anyone can argue that when it comes to this type of governmental action, USPA is looking out for skydivers' best interests. Kudos to USPA for getting the word out there and allowing us to take action.

As a pilot I am also a member of a few other aviation groups. USPA is always the first and sometimes only organization that alerts me to important things such as this.

******DB Cooper. "Guy went to an SOS event, ...weather went bad- guy refused a refund" Most readers would agree that is a bad practice/policy. However, not enough facts there to indict the DZ for bad policy and name them as a bad actor..

If he paid in cash, then he should be outraged and go to this forum to complain about it and name the DZ. Fair enough.

But, if he paid with a credit card, he has to deal with the consequences and all of the stuff outlined in the T dog response.

That is my home DZ. And they have no refunds. At all. Period. Zero. Cash, credit, whatever. Once money is handed over, you will never see it again. It's not on their website, but at manifest, there's a sign.

I fibbed myself on AFF-A, after putting like 500 bucks (cash) into account. Not sure if I will come back to the sport, I asked about refunds. Was told No. What if I will never jump again? Well, you can bring someone and they can do a tandem...

I thought this was the norm, so I annoyed the shit out of DeLand manifest (first DZ after my home DZ I went to) by bring them cash for every jump. When they told me that they will just cash me out at end of day, I was shocked.

What DZ so I know which one to avoid?

They're talking about Sky's the Limit in Stoudsburg, PA.

I was at an SOS event at Sky's the Limit in Pa. One guy who drove a long way just for the event was refused a refund on his unused jump tickets after the weather went to shit with winds. We should probably make a list of these operation so at least people are aware.

That's some horrible customer service there. Having been to other dropzones in this area (Above the Poconos and Endless mountains) I can assure you that's not the norm around here. Most people will refund money for things that aren't your fault.

I was out in Iowa a few months ago and went jumping with some friends. They signed up for tandems at Quad City Skydiving and they said up front they would refund deposits if the weather was bad since people weren't local. Thankfully the weather was good.

Where's Kris when you need him?!?:S

AVG is the best free or otherwise out there. But what do I know, I'm a Certified Information Systems Security Professional and Certified Ethical Hacker.

Can anyone recommend a good DZ in the nashville area? My friend would still like to jump and at a reputable DZ.

    Thanks.

You might have to drive down to Georgia Skydiving Center in Rome, GA. They might actually be the closest reputable place.

SHE'S SO CUTE! Congrats.............have you gotten her fitted for some Dave Clark's yet?

I won't let my little girl wear overpriced DC headsets. Perhaps I'll have to custom build her some. She also needs a small Phil's Flying hat!

It was a pretty long labor. We went to the hospital Tuesday night and she wasn't born till Thursday morning at 10:05. She and Mom come home today.

  9. Hard to say, it depends where you live. I know that would be high for my flight school and we fly new airplanes that are better equipped and more comfortable than that klunky old Cessna.

The myth of part-141 schools is that you will spend less because you can get your license in less hours. The reality is you will spend just as long or longer, and have more ground instruction to pay for as well.

  10. You can't do much with only 300 hours of flight time. You can probably tow banners, and maybe fly jumpers. Nobody is going to hire you to fly cargo with that little bit of time either.

You might be able to get a job as a CFI. Even this is a maybe. As a flight school owner I tend to stay from low time pilots who have been trained via a "professional pilot" program. The biggest reason is that most of these programs only teach you the bare minimum to pass the CFI checkride and not really teach. They treat the CFI as an addon to your other ratings to allow you to build time toward a "real" flying job.

Probably not what you wanted to hear. If you want to be in aviation, don't be discouraged. Just don't expect an easy road.
