    Need a JOB

And you think that getting a job is going to help??? Hell, most of the time I spend on dz.com is because of work. In fact, I'm posting from the office right now.
  3. For good coverage in the mountains, I recommend whatever this guy has.... http://www.sundayherald.com/print25899
  4. The question isn't how to get her nekkid in public
  5. The worst is that I actually managed to get through, calling internationally, a total of 8 times. Each time the lady on the other end told me I'd have to call back in a few minutes...all the associates were busy. Me: "Well, can't you put me on hold?" Her: "Nope, our hold system is already full. Call back in a few minutes."
  6. In Russia, beer is legally in the same category as soda and water...it's not regulated at all. And it's cheaper, too!!!

That's some serious disbelief if it can freeze blood and curdle toes

    Dangerous or not?

Don't forget to throw in an extra $10 000 for the platinum upgrade. Ooooooh, the fun you'll have at airports!!!!

    Dangerous or not?

I've got just about the same amount of cable protruding on mine. Bugs the shit out of me, but my logical side tells me that that little snag factor is probably the least of my worries.
  11. That object has been seeing a lot of 180s lately.
  12. Did #17 on Monday morning. We climbed 16 floors of a construction site elevator support column, standing next to a building under construction. We perilously jumped from elevator support column to building every floor from the 7th up to the 16th, looking for a balcony that didn't have windows installed yet. Just when all seemed lost, we found our entrance on the 16th floor. Then we made it up to the 36th floor by stairwell. And we did all this with awestruck construction workers and security looking up from below. I think I did #29 when I was in Amsterdam 2 years ago, but I don't remember a whole lot of that.

    base addiction :)

What I would do in your situation - give up BASE for a month. Take a vacation. Go to the caucus mountains with a backpack and tent, and get lost for 2-3 weeks. It sounds like you love BASE, but if it's the only sport you do, you're gonna get bored with it pretty quickly. So find something else you're passionate about and dive headlong into it for a while. Your rig will be waiting for you when you get back What I mentioned above (Caucus mountains + backpack + tent) is what I'd do. You'll probably have to find something different for youself.
  14. Any details on the canopy being jumped? It looks unvented on the video. It's too bad the cameraman dropped the ball on this one. It looks like the canopy and the lines between canopy and jumper "bounced" off the guy wires. The impact with several guy wires (and not just one), kept the jumper from getting hung up or dropping to the ground with an unusable ball of shit overhead. The scary thing is that the canopy visibly loses pressurization upon impact, and doesn't even fully regain it before the jumper is already on the ground. Lucky guy. P.S. That canopy looks familiar. Anyone I've jumped with?
  15. Oh my God!!! That is the funniest thing I've heard this week! I can just imagine the entire complex being drowned in a snow of popcorn.
  16. 0:1:1 0) New girlfriend, but no luck on that front. 1) 1 jump, outside of Moscow 1) New rig

    help

Wouldn't catch me jumping it. All my experience with zippers shows that they get stuck half-way down. Usually with beans and frank somewhere caught in the equipment. While running from the cops near bourbon street. Brings back bad memories. I wouldn't touch it.
  18. Where's the option for "please God, anything but blonde!"?????

  20. Were they jumping slider down or slider off? Do you have details on "why" the 3-rings failed? Were the incorrectly assembled, or did the actual hardware break? How did the two jumpers land? Did they go in with a streaming wad of shit overhead, or were they jumping slider down and that kept at least some sort of an inflated canopy overhead?
  21. I'll be there. Group one. Now I just need to find $700 for a round-way ticket to the states P.S. I'll probably fly into central Florida and then drive up to Bridge Day. If anyone needs a ride (or locals want to share some objects on the way), send a PM.
  22. Now that's an idea...anybody see any potential reason NOT to do this? I'm a BASE newbie, so I'd like to hear the opinions of some more experienced jumpers. Potential problems I can see: 1) Depending on the material used to tie off the 3-rings, it could abrade the loop already in place holding the 3-rings closed. 2) Some knots don't hold very well. I wouldn't want to trust my life to something "tied" closed*. Still, the loop built into the 3-rings would still be there, in case the tied knot failed. 3) Would have to remember to remove the tie-off before jumping over water or for city jumps. Forgetting to do so would defeat the purpose of having 3-rings. 4) This solution borders on paranoia...there are SO many other things likely to kill you other than catastrophic 3-ring failure. It would be better to focus on other, more dangerous issues. Benefits: 1) Acts as a "backup" for the 3-ring system, in case the 3-ring's built-in loop fails. 2) Safeguards against accidentally misassembling the 3-rings 3) Safeguards against accidentally releasing the 3-rings early (out of stupidity, snagging the cutaway handle, or other reason) The above said, I will probably do exactly this, if nobody else can mention a serious reason not to. It's probably completely anal to worry about such a minor issue, but I like to eliminate or insure even the remotest of dangers when possible. * And yes, I realize there are many knots that are 100% or almost 100% reliable. Hell, the PC is attached to the bridle with a simple knot that is for all practical purposes nearly fail-proof. However, there are also a lot of knots that are prone to slippage over time, and some that are downright unreliable.
  23. That replacement PC is a nice toy, though! Wish I had one like it. Speaking of which, I think I still owe you $$$ for that thing.
  24. A fellow baser has been trying to convince me of the logic of buying a BASE container without a cutaway system. He's got a Zak container, which I must say I absolutely love. Well built, lightweight, comfortable. However, I'd never buy myself a Zak for one simple reason - the risers are built into the container, just like reserve risers on a skydiving rig. There's no cutaway system whatsoever. It makes gear checks a breeze, and removes one failure point from the rig (after all, 3-rings do fail, albeit VERY rarely. They can also be assembled incorrectly). However, the downside I see involves water landings. If jumping a bridge over fast-moving water, if you land in the water and can't cutaway, you're significantly increasing your risk of drowning. Your options are: a) Climb out of harness (difficult) b) Use hook knife (difficult) c) Swim with canopy (damn near impossible) I would never want to land in fast-moving water without 3-rings. What are your opinions on the matter? If faced with the option of buying a container with 3-rings vs. a container with no cutaway, what would you choose and why? Does the easy gear check and removed failure point make up for the greatly increased risk of drowning?
