  1. According to the specs on the cx-100 (I don't own one) it would absolutely fit. The dimensions of the camera are 2.25 x 2.38 x 4.5 and the internal dimensions of the Pelican 1200 are 9.5 x 7.12 x 4.12, which would certainly accommodate it. Hell, they even show a full SLR in the 1200 on Pelican's site. Now, as pilot-one mentioned, the trick becomes what ELSE you want in the case. I'm guessing you could get the camera and a charger in the 1200 (depending on the size of the charger), but I dunno... a larger case like the 1450 may end up being a better choice. My advice? Lay out the camera and all the goodies you want to have in the case along with it, allow enough room for padding between components, and add at least half an inch for foam around the outside of the components, then take a measurement of that to get a fix on how large of a case you need.
  2. Hey guys, just wanted to show this off in case anyone was thinking of getting a similar case to hold all their GoPro goodies. The size on the Pelican 1200 works great for what I'm doing, although if you're looking to store more gear with the camera (and still have it held in place with foam cut-outs), you might want to up size your case selection just a bit. By the way, the small white piece of equipment in the picture is a solar charger/battery pack (Solio Mono-i). -Lee They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. - Benjamin Franklin
  3. I don't see the 1950 in their product line up? 1780 is about the largest I see. Looks like Hardigg, the guys who make the Storm Cases, were acquired by Pelican back in Jan 2009. Since then, the Storm line has became part of the Pelican lineup. -Lee They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. - Benjamin Franklin
  4. Thanks for the advice, I actually stumbled upon their case calculator yesterday after I made the original post and used it to come up with one that would work. It should be here Thursday.
  5. I'm looking to buy a Pelican case for traveling with my rig, a couple jumpsuits, and "maybe" a helmet, although fitting the helmet is not a must. Does anyone have any experience using these to transport your gear? If so, what model?? ...I suck at gauging what would work and what would be just too damn big without seeing them in person. Thanks for any help! -Lee They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. - Benjamin Franklin
  6. So every year I come to switzerland to snowboard and this year I decided to bring along my rig. Anyone have any suggestions for places to jump or maybe some popular BASE jumping locations? If anyone knows of someone here doing ground launching, some information on that would be greatly appreciated! -syn They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. - Benjamin Franklin

  8. Ok, so after using the Skysystems Magnetic SkyTie for a while, I started thinking about some possible alternatives to the setup... tell me what you guys think. Option 1) Instead of having the magnetic flip strap setup, cut the SkyTie off just above the bottom magnetic that is attached to the reserve flap. Then take the magnet from the other side and sew it onto the rear edge of the slider. Now instead of having to flip up the keeper and then flip it back down over the slider, you just stick the slider directly to the magnet on the reserve flap. Option 2) [only applies to rigs with magnetic riser covers] Get rid of the SkyTie all together. Sew two smaller magnets onto the left and right rear edge of the slider. When the slider is brought down below the risers, stick each side against the magnetic riser covers and let them hold it down. So do either of these setups sound feasible to you guys? -syn They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. - Benjamin Franklin
  9. I've done two also. A basic course with Scott Miller when I had about 25 jumps and then a basic+advanced combo with Ian Drennan at about 175 jumps. I think requiring it for a B license makes sense. With all the injuries associated with bad decisions under canopy, it would be a logical step to require additional training in that area. Then again, I can certainly see the other side of the argument that the courses aren't always available in your area, which could stifle progression... -syn They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. - Benjamin Franklin

  12. You're exactly right. I started 5 years ago, jumped for a couple months, decided to stop after jump # 33 in order to pursue other things, and then started back this past June at Skyfest. The guys at PD and UPT helped me out a lot since no one was really there planning to work with a student needing to get re-current.
  13. Woohoo! I just got the email confirmation on my C license, which means I went from my A to C in 5 months, so I felt I had to share! 14. Dru, Not sure if you would be up for it, but myself and a few others from Charleston, SC head up to SD Carolina every weekend, so if you're up for driving here we could certainly car pool the rest of the way. I generally leave out on Friday afternoon/night and head back Sunday after the sunset load. If I recall correctly, Savannah is about 1.5 hours from Charleston and the drive to SD Carolina is another 2.5. It is quite a bit of travel time, but at least you only have to make part of it. The DZ also has an Otter, so hopefully it can scratch the itch for a higher jump number per day. I usually get in about 8 a day. As for the other two that you mentioned, I'm not sure about St. Marys, but I've been to Walterboro and had a great time. Like others have mentioned, it is a Cessna DZ, so the normal limitations apply, but the people are great and the airport is huge. -syn They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. - Benjamin Franklin
  15. That isn't exactly what you would call an "officially endorsed" practice, so there probably won't be any official requirements to go along with it.

  18. When you submitted video surveillance, do you think the authorities would have filed charges against you if you had a system in place to duplicate the tapes for backup/archival purposes before they had even asked for it? What about systems that don't store on physical tapes, but instead use part of a SAN array? The officers aren't going to be able to take what could possibly be the entire infrastructure of the company to get the video, they just get the company to place the (still unedited) video onto a media they can use. This is no different. Duplicating the tape before handing it over isn't evidence tampering anymore than any of the examples above. Now, IF the subpoena mandates that all copies be turned over as well, it is a different story, but why would they even write that in on a case like this? -syn They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. - Benjamin Franklin
  19. I do quite a bit of deep free diving, which involves repetitive and rapid descents and ascents. Among the crowd of people in that sport, Affrin is seen as the magical key to making equalization less difficult. I have a fairly constant, issue with allergies myself, so it has helped to open up my sinus cavities and make it a bit easier to handle on several occasions. It may help, and hey, it only costs a couple bucks to give it a try. -syn They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. - Benjamin Franklin
  20. I say go as much as you can. My AFF course (Skydive University in DeLand) came with 20 minutes of tunnel time before the first jump. That allowed the instructors to spend less time and energy on teaching you how to fly your body during the AFF levels and more time on how to fly the canopy and land properly. Their thinking, which I agree with, is that the majority of people are getting hurt under good canopies, so lets take care of the body flight part up front so that we can focus on canopy control. So the way I see it, having tunnel time will make AFF a breeze and you will come out of it a better flyer, so where is the downside? Besides the obvious financial burden of course. Hell, I kept going and had 6 hours in the tunnel with only 33 jumps! Sure did help with getting on those 4 way jumps I wanted. -syn They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. - Benjamin Franklin
  21. Hmm, now that could change things, but I'd have to read the NCLB act myself. If it really does mandate it, then I I'd just have to join all the teachers who hate that act, bitch at the Fed instead, and leave the school alone. -syn They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. - Benjamin Franklin
  22. The government isn't -trying- to take away their right to an education. The children have a medical condition which precludes them from being able to take advantage of the system provided. By your logic, the government is also denying the right of a public education to bedridden cancer patients because they don't provide them with their own personal teacher at the hospital. o_O -syn They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. - Benjamin Franklin
  23. My statement was certainly oversimplified, but I am of the belief that events of this magnitude require the people within the society to slowly move in a direction that will allow it. Hitler certainly couldn't have suggested killing off thousands of people the day he came into power. The society had to be slowly moved (often forcefully) into a position that would give him the ability and power to do so. Without the people giving up the smaller rights, liberties, and powers, the larger requirements of accomplishing such a twisted goal would have been impossible. Delving too deep into this topic would certainly spin this thread in the wrong direction though, so I'll just stop there.
