with the prerequisite funding bills and tax raises that'll get spent on artsy overpasses eventually - maybe stadium subsidies.... It's like other preventative measures (police/fire funding for example), it doesn't give instant gratification to tax payers, they don't see the good it provides. All tax payers see are the tragedies that could have been prevented, but that is always after the fact. It's harder to sell a multi-million school bond to the tax payers for a new shelter for a school that will use it once or twice in the life of that building. It is even harder to get educators to look outside their little reality bubble to the real dangers that exist. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

Supposedly the school had been reinforced after the May 3rd tornado that tracked a few miles to the south of this one. All the schools in the area had. It is hard to protect against a slow moving 2-mile wide F5. However, you can fully expect new legislation to come out directing requirements for schools as an outcome. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

Yup and that path was near the path from the major tornado 10-ish years ago. I love watching Storm Chasers, I love storm photography, but this isn't something that would be wished on anyone. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

This. Oh you don't know how bad I would love to do this. If I'm lucky space tourism will really become attainable before I die. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

Space, the final frontier... Pay for a one way trip to Mars! If only we knew some sort of scientists versed and studied in the art of rocketry. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

Going to be a good summer of jumping and partying for that guy, then it'll be back to packing for food money next year... A skydiving version of Brewster's Millions, but with out the big payout at the end? --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

Sure hope you don't want the cops to save your life

Huh, I've done that. Some of the local bangers are much better equipped and armed than I am. They're also rarely alone, but I still doubt you would respect me. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." -
SC - Useful Debate, or Just Lots and Lots of Yelling?
AggieDave replied to MikeJD's topic in Speakers Corner
SC serves two purposes: 1. To allow angry people to be angry 2. To prevent angry people posting angry things in the real forums. There are more useful debates in the DB Cooper thread than in this entire forum. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." -
RDS Rings: Pull them down or not?
AggieDave replied to ke-aloha's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
It is hard to tell, all 4 rings to go the bottom, but you can also see the slocks that lock the fronts down (which also holds the rears down, but I never really had a problem with those going back up). --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." -

Here's what I used to do: http://youtu.be/TKcc_7CP62Q?t=29s --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." -
Strange, I went bowling with my family two weeks ago and I had a pistol on but I guess by the grace of god it didn't magically go off. Maybe that guy is just an idiot? --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

Holy hell! That much?!? We've used the first baptist church day care in the next town that has a reputation for being an outstanding day care, but our costs were nowhere near that much. I think that's the "Holy Hell, Fire, Damnation & Brimstone Academy" isn't it?

There, fixed it for you. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

ultimate riser length for Katana120 or XFire119
AggieDave replied to lurid1's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Both? not many guys go out the door at 280 pounds. Now for more fun, I can tell you about the Velo 111 I loaded at 2.75... The point is, canopy size is a number and you can't assume that just because someone has X sized canopy that they're not doing something outside of your idea of normal with it, unless you ask them. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." -
RDS Rings: Pull them down or not?
AggieDave replied to ke-aloha's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I hated how my rings would try to climb the lines, I also hated how they would try to come up to the dive loops. It didn't cause any real problems, it was distracting. To the point that I had slocks on my front risers to hold the rings down. The rear rings wouldn't climb after I pulled them down. That's a little OCD, but it made a difference for me. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." -
For my curiosity, what sort of production value are REDs adding to skydiving? Are these pet video projects, commercial film operations, guys videoing their jumps for fun or videoing tandems? The return on the investment seems skewed to me (as much as I enjoy top quality photography gear for a hobbiest). --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

Sandstorm anyone? --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

On the way to SD Temple years ago, I passed a bright yellow Goldwing with a sidecar that was pulling a trailer. The backseat had a huge bag on it, the sidecar had a huge bag in it and the trailer was riding like it was heavy. Impressive really, like a small U-haul. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

Ever ridden a modern BMW sport touring bike? I spent quite a bit of time on the 1150RT and I have to tell you, that is the highest CG bike I've ever been on. 800lbs of fall over monster that liked to eat coil packs. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

ultimate riser length for Katana120 or XFire119
AggieDave replied to lurid1's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Both? Good man! Not everyone can jump a canopy that is smaller than their slider on 46" risers. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." -
Nope, it rode well. As bulky as all of that was it weighed less than 100lbs, so it still rode better than when riding 2-up. Everything was run through the oversized sissy bar and bungied up, so it didn't even shift. The worse part was worrying about the bags I had packed everything leaking since it poured rain the entire ride. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

Pfft. Amateur! This was my load out to swoop nationals a few years ago. All my skydiving/swooping gear, plus clothes and such for a week on the DZ. On the upside it rained for most of the ride to Spaceland. I did get some strange looks on the beltway and it was overall an enjoyable ride. DAMN Brother! I'd have to make three trips with all THAT stuff! Still weighed less than my work bike. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

read your post again and ask yourself if you would give advice to such a post?!?? fill out your profile, otherwise many think you are a fu... TROLL! low drag riser on a 120...LMFAO! I competed on a Velo 120 loaded around 2.35 and even earned my pro-card on that canopy. Would you have LMFAO at me or just said hi at the DZ? --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." -
