  1. I'm happy slowing getting my post numbers with full/real posts instead of hop-n-pop posts. AggieDave '02 ------------- Blue Skies and Gig'em Ags! BTHO t.u.

AOL's not so bad? That's almost like saying "being tied up and beaten with bamboo canes wouldn't be so bad..." I'm definately a fan of the mom&pop/hometown ISPs, they seem to actually care about their customers since they don't have 2.8 ga-tra-billion users (actually I used to work for one while in high school).
  3. That is a good analogy of sorts; however, do skydivers artificially inflate the price of their product simply because they are profiteering gluttons. Also, do they use strong armed tactics to attempt to squash a new medium simpley because they do not nor do they wish to fully understand it? The same arguments have already been made many times over when the audio cassette tape came out, when the VCR came out and now with the explosion in the popularity of MP3s and the advent of the p2p technology. Personally I'm not sure which is scarier: having big business use innappropiate tactics to attempt to kill new technology or having copywrite laws violated.

As the old saying goes: "Who are we?" "SKYDIVERS" "What do we do?" "EAT, F*** AND SKYDIVE!" "though not always in that order" AggieDave '02 ------------- Blue Skies and Gig'em Ags! BTHO t.u.
  5. So, when we get off of Newbie status does that mean we'll get pie'd and have to buy beer? AggieDave '02 ------------- Blue Skies and Gig'em Ags! BTHO t.u.
  6. Well, seeing how (with ALL costs included like studio fees, etc) it costs record labels about a buck $1 (USD) to make each CD and we're still charged anywhere from USD 15-20 to buy it, I'm a big fan of Napster, OpenNap, Gnutella and all of those p2p's. It's also got me listening to a ton of different genres that I would have never started listening to if I had to buy the CD. AggieDave '02 ------------- Blue Skies and Gig'em Ags! BTHO t.u.

Wingnut, you're talking about Brit aren't you? She's really damn cool. We haven't jumped together, I can't get her to go belly-to-earth and do some RW and I'm still trying to learn freeflying.

Wingnut, are you in Texas? I didn't realize that. Where do you jump @, I'm usually hanging around Skydive Houston (in Waller) or Eagle Flight (in Granbury). AggieDave '02 ------------- Blue Skies and Gig'em Ags! BTHO t.u.
  9. Not only did that many register that quick, but everyone's been posting their nutz off trying to get off of Newbie status.
  10. You don't happen to know what the magic numbers are and what the different ratings are, do you? I didn't see it on the FAQ. The newbie thing is bugging the crap out of me.
  11. That happened to me too, use your pass-phrase to get your password e-mailed to you. Even though I specified a PW when i created my account, it still created a crazy-ass 12 character PW for me.

That's kinda funny since AOL bought Mirabillus a bit over a year ago, so they too own ICQ. (I still prefer ICQ over AIM and no one uses Pow-Wow or any of the other non-MS non-AOL chats). AggieDave '02 ------------- Blue Skies and Gig'em Ags! BTHO t.u.
  13. (warning: kinda cheesy ) So I'm guessing the ratings are kina like this: 20 Posts: Novice 50 Posts: "dangerous dz.com poster" (intermediate) 100 Posts: experienced 200 Posts: dz.com forum god Then you can apply for special posting abilities: After you get your "god" status you can get your PM ratings. With the PM (guess) ratings there is the AFP (accelerated forum posting) and the S/P (static posting) instructor ratings. These are important since newbies need to learn how to cutaway (ctrl+alt+del) their browser so their computer doesn't bounce (stack dump/blue screen). Also you can get your "pro-post" rating so you can post into non-dz.com forums, but that takes on the upwards of 500 posts. AggieDave '02 ------------- Blue Skies and Gig'em Ags! BTHO t.u.

    Welcome

The check spelling feature is neat, but it's funny that the dictionary used doesn't have a lot of skydiving terms in it...
  15. I was wanting the dz.com community opinion: Skydiving traditions, like SCR, SCS, the ceremonies, freefall awards, etc. are kind of a big deal at my dropzone, but visiting other DZs and talking to other jumpers, it seems that many people don't care about them as much anymore. It could be because my home DZ has a lot of older jumpers who have been in the sport for quite some time and the people they started with were into the traditions. What's yalls thoughts on that?
