  1. Wow .. that was quick ... thank you ... Another one. What is the process for your YouTube uploads for your tandem vids ... (what format do you render to, resolution, do you use Sony Movie Studio's "integrated publish to YouTube" feature etc...)
  2. I have a few more questions about your set up at your DZ. We would like to start setting up a system similar to yours. Any info you can provide would be excellent. How many PC/NLE stations do you have set up? Does the DZ own PC/NLE stations (hardware+software?) How many people are hired to do the editing? How many vids do you think a single editor will do a day? Does the DZ pay the editors or do the Videographers? Do the editors get paid per edit?
  3. Ahhh yes, the old NLE vs LE debate. I've been using NLE's since the early 90's and wanted to use one when I started to do tandems, alas, it simply took too long. Now with flash based camcorders that argument is over. Now all I have to do is come up with the $2000 it will take to get equipment I can use at the DZ. Pro's for NLE: More economical to do HD Easier to put stills and Video on same DVD. One person can edit multiple videos at the same time. I had a volume level issue during one of my on plane interviews that I was able to correct using the LE .. because What you see (and hear) is what you get! With the NLE, I probably would not review the entire footage, which spooks me a bit. Some DZ's still use FILM ... they can give the student the roll, right after landing .. DONE!!! Does the customer care? Debatable .. however they usually get JPEG's with the prints when they get it developed. For the solo Vidographer/editor, it's a toss up. Do what you like (and can afford). Get creative in your shooting and avoid cookie cutter video's .. when you can :-(. The bottom line is delivering a consistent quality product to the customer. Vinyl vs CD Film vs JPEG VHS vs HD LE vs NLE Analog vs Digital, there is always a time and place to switch technologies ... for myself, maybe next year.
  4. I use the Panasonic AVE-5. And you should be able to get this for under $300 if you just keep looking on ebay. Heck, maybe I'll sell one of mine! It's also a sound mixer and freeze frame on both the A and B bus (digital effects on both sides). Videonics Title maker TM-1 (there is another designation for this), is what I use. I used a Videonics mixer and it doesn't offer the same features .. Also for a DVD burner I have the Sony MC5. It finalizes in less then a minute .. I am not kidding, it is fast! Costco now sells them for around 150. I have 2 of these, one to burn stills, and another to burn the vid.
  5. Can the CX100 review in slow motion, and frame by frame, just like the DV camera's of yesteryear?
  6. I was told at PIA, there was a demo of a non-linear tandem video production from flash card to DVD in 2 minutes. The people that saw it and told me about it were not quite that technical. I was just wondering, what happened in that 2 minutes? AVCHD to MPEG-2 render times is at least 3 minutes for a 10 min Vid. Was this on a 64bit Dual Quad hemi with 10 GB, or a few well placed magic words ... Anyone know?
  7. I just started using this unit. I now have 2 of them. I take digital stills and use it to transfer the stills to a DVD. PROS 1 It Finalizes VERY VERY fast. Average is a minute for a 9 minute Tandem video (-R +R doesn't matter). YES .. less then a minute. 2 It does Format the DVD in the beginning, takes 15 seconds. 3 Takes up very little space at your Editing station. 4 I pop in my SD card and it copies all the stills to the DVD. This operation actually takes a little longer then the actual VIdeo finalize, but I start this right before I do the edit, and it's done when My DVD is ready. I format my SD card before every Tandem shoot. 5 It's Got an LCD screen that shows what is being recorded. CONS 1 It's a little pricey. 189 at Costco. Used 130 on ebay. 2 It has no OUTPUTS. Though if you are running a Video Mixer, you usually have 2 outputs. This was not a problem for me. 3 You cannot copy the JPG stills to the same DVD as the video. It's totally possible, and they simply didn't do it. Then you can give the customer one DVD!!! I've tested this at Wallgreen and CVS .. it works! 4 I do not think you can play a DVD after it's recorded. You cannot hear the sound even if you could .. like I said, no outputs. You cannot check your work .. stills or video. Any other questions let me know.
  8. Ok .. I'm a moron ... I gave a review on the ProTrack and didn't see the Star rating .. gave it one star when I should have given it 5. However, it got a thumbs up .. so I take it, the moderator puts that there? Also, it's not important, can I change the number of starts ... I suppose there are more important things to do....

These guys are in Denmark, and their response time is about 4 days. I do AFF, Video and 4way. For the first 2 I cannot afford an instrument mal. I have been on an AFF where the other instructors visual altimeter failed (another popular brand). I can set custom warning levels depending on what kind of dive I am doing. a great feature. It's a great product, just ordered an optima.
