  1. Yeah I definitely phrased that badly. I meant a ban on cars in general. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  2. Agreed but there is a long way from banning the use of existing one to banning making new ones that don't meet the requirements. And while the car aficionados out there are far better equipped to speak to their quality than I am I have noticed we still have muscle cars rolling off the assembly lines that must meet the current standards. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  3. I can see a lot of people not being quite so diligent on a few points. And guess what, they'll survive. I'm old enough to remember mercury thermometers and more than once played with the mercury from a broken one by rolling it around in my hand. Still alive and still have two and only two hands. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  4. If fed.gov said "Automakers can no longer produce or import vehicles with a combined mileage less than "x", yes. What part of "so the law will prohibit making or importing them" did you have problems comprehending? So, did you deliberately misconstrue statements *then*, as well, or is this a new thing for you? In re-reading my post I'll acknowledge I phrased it poorly. What I should have said is do you consider tighter fuel and emissions standards to be a ban on automobiles in general? Incandescent bulbs have not been banned and, what a surprise, the industry has developed more efficient ones. Do you just automatically go in to attack mode on people with whom you don't agree is that new for you? "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  5. So when the mileage or emissions standards for vehicles are toughened do you call it a ban on less efficient cars? Do you go stockpile gas guzzlers? If it was truly a ban you couldn't stock pile anyway because ownership would be illegal, not just import or manufacture. Plus if you read the article you would see that incandescent bulb manufacturers responded by making 80 watt bulbs that are as bright as the current 100's. It has been years since I have been here but it is nice to see that the camps haven't changed much. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  6. There is no 'ban' only tougher standards. Guess what happened? People made better bulbs. http://mediamatters.org/research/201101040005 "Truth is tough. 7. Ahnold can't run. Not a natural born American citizen. Hell a few years ago there were questions about McCain, I think. Born in Panama to American parents but not born in America, like two of my own kids. One of whom wants to be a politician, where did I go wrong? "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  8. They both spend a lot of time complimenting each other. Hell maybe it will be a McCain/Clinton ticket! "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  9. Didn't say I was picking a winner. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  10. The money seems to be lining up behind a Clinton V. McCain fight. Should be interesting. The two of them are stumping all over the place, often together. Maybe it will at least bring some civility back in to politics. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  11. You scored as Captain Jack Sparrow. Roguish,quick-witted, and incredibly lucky, Jack Sparrow is a pirate who sometimes ends up being a hero, against his better judgement. Captain Jack looks out for #1, but he can be counted on (usually) to do the right thing. He has an incredibly persuasive tongue, a mind that borders on genius or insanity, and an incredible talent for getting into trouble and getting out of it. Maybe its brains, maybe its genius, or maybe its just plain luck. Or maybe a mixture of all three. Could have been Batman but I went for rum and sun instead of secret hideout. Batman, the Dark Knight 67% Captain Jack Sparrow 67% Indiana Jones 63% William Wallace 63% Lara Croft 58% James Bond, Agent 007 58% The Amazing Spider-Man 50% Maximus 50% Neo, the "One" 46% The Terminator 46% El Zorro 13% "Truth is tough. 12. They will be fine. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  13. I have been aware of Jane Goodall since I was in my teens. By your picture I am probably old enough to be your father. This means I have known about her since before you were born. I have also been in to photography for almost as long. Was even a professional for a short period of time. You have a lot of learning ahead of you. Advice I have seen in this thread tells you there was no reason to get in ahead of time while the light was still good unless Ms.Goodall is a total freak about flash. While my attempt at professional photography was not a success (studios and repetitious crap) I wish you the best. Treat people like people, not like trash or like celebs and you will get your best results. "Truth is tough. 14. I confess to having not read this thread in detail and hope others have made these points. 1) Interesting coincidence that the current natural period of warming coincides with the beginning of the industrial age. 2) Even if global warming theorists are wrong cleaning up the atmosphere is still a good thing for our general health and well being. 3) If global warming theorists are right by the time it can be proven it will be too late to do anything about it. (BTW see number two.) "Truth is tough. 15. Well you might want to check with the United Nations, the International Standards Organization (ISO) and others before you declare that. Also their religious makeup today and 35 to 55 years ago might be a little different. Might be the same too but maybe you should check first. "Truth is tough.
