  1. The more jumps I have the lower my winds limits become. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  2. Careful raftman and poe I know where you two jump! "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  3. Call both DZ's and talk to them about what you are actually geting with each package and also what additional training you will need to get an A license. Just a quick scan of the web sites shows that you are NOT "basically getting the same thing". The number of jumps is different, the AZ program includes wind tunnel time, etc. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  4. I’m not a grammar Nazi but if I see one more person confuse “mute” for “moot” I’m going to go postal! Moot ~ unable to be resolved (i.e. it doesn’t matter any more) Mute ~ unable to speak (i.e. he is deaf and mute) Proper usage: The point is moot.
  5. There is part of your problem. So why were you and the other group using timed separation if you didn't know one of the most important variables in calculating it? "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  6. Jim, As a rule people get back what they put out, that is why you receive so many good things from the community. Keep it up. Blue Skies, Ron PS: Politics in skydiving? I’ve never heard of such a thing! "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  7. He doesn’t have enough facial piercings or tattoos to freefly. So we’re keeping him in the RW section of the DZ. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  8. I had spinning, diving line twists that required a cut away on a 1.1 loaded Sabre2 , 190. The G forces were so strong after just a revolution or two that it was hard to cutaway. It can happen on any canopy any time. BTW, you are already past that WL at far less experience. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  9. A common question. If you spend a few mintues doing a search you will find a lot of info. Specifically, info on why "boots" used to be worn and now running shoes tend to be worn when jumping. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  10. It's much more funny when people jump up exiting a Helicopter! "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  11. holy shit!!! $100 for an extra 6k of altitude that's extremely ridiculous ... but if some dumbass is willin to pay that then... that's harsh How many high altitude jumps do you have? What do you think the cost of the extra altitude per person is on a normal high altidute jump? "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  12. Where are you jumping that this happens? If this is really happening find another DZ. AFF is only the first half of the student program to get a license. The coaching program is the second half; it can be done my instructors or coaches but to complete your A license card there are a number of mandatory items that you must work with an instructional rating holder to achieve. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  13. Welcome to the skydivers fusion club. Mine is c6-c7. BTW: seriously think about 6 months with no skydiving not 3. The good news is that you should be able to jump again. Wearing a camara is highly questionable though. Dan BC who has had a fusion too gave me some good advice. He highly suggests dacron lines to help mitiagte the impact of openings. I have dacron lines on my sabre2 and a Katana which is a very soft opening canopy. It will get better. Hang in there. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. 14. These things are highly subjective and a "fair" price is what a buyer and seller agree upon. Honestly, most people think a "fair" price is the lowest price they have ever heard of in a market with high supply and low demand. So I hate the word "fair". That said with only 300 jumps the canopy is just being broken in. With a new one at over $2K I personally beleive $1,500 is a very reasonable number. A rule of thumb I've heard is the new price less $1 to $1.5 per jump. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  15. Our opinion will coincide with that of your AFF/I. Agreed! "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  16. Spend less time on the internet complaining and more time studying. Two and a half weeks of dedicated effort? Wow. Suck it up cupcake, get out the books and bury your head in them for a few months. Trust me long-term payback from education is much more important that your desire to jump. Your father seems like a reasonable guy and has your best interests at heart. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." 17. They are basically the same thing. Most DZ's have some minor variation in their A license programs and call them by different names. But virtually all DZ's go by the USPA Integrated Student Program. I guarantee Arizona has experience with people coming from different programs (particularly from up north) in the winter and finishing their A license. The jumps you’ve made will count toward your license. First call AZ and talk to them. Second expect to hear something like, “Sure we can do that. We’ll need to review your log books when you get here and tailor the rest of your jumps to make are you meet all the learning objectives to be cleared for self supervision (finishing AFF) and that you meet all the requirements on the A license card. (Standard Coaching program)” "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  18. welcome to the wonderful world of AFF. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  19. the "Skydiver" airspeed is likely not reliable for anything under canopy. What are the speeds you are reading? Can you give us a few examples? And to more specifically answer your question if you think you need a speed Cypress than get one. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  20. Gloves would help, but I don't like to wear them because of the reduction in the sense of feel. LOL. Just read it again... LOL...LOL... "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  21. Sadly most people don’t have the knowledge base to understand the problem let alone the proposed “fix”. There is a long history running 150 years that shows when problems like this arise, as they have countless times through out the era of modern economies, depressions occur if there is no intervention. I don’t think people realize that 25% of the population could be out of work within two years. This bail out is not a good thing but it is necessary and the markets are incapable of fixing themselves. Anyone that wants a good read should buy Milton Friedman’s A Monetary History of the US. Today we stand on the edge of a history changing moment and apparently the ignorant masses fail to learn from history. God help us all. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  22. Why would you jump to that conclusion? As an AFF instructor I personally like to see people do a tandem prior to AFF. It lets them experience the sensory overload of a first skydive in an environment where they have less responsibility and stress. In short it means there are less problem AFF first jump students. That said I don’t ever like to see someone do more than two tandems because then we have to fix their body position. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  23. I’ve got to disagree with that statement. I’ve seen competent people with thousands of jumps die due to gear failure on modern well maintained gear. The chances are slim but don’t fool yourself into believing it can’t happen. Again not true. We take an enormous amount of risk every time we step out of an airplane. Please don’t compare it to driving to work. That line of logic has been long since refuted. Stay in the sport long enough and you’ll see your friends die and become crippled. That is a fact. While the risk is small it is not zero and should not be dismissed. I personally take on the risk because I believe the rewards are worth the risk. But do not think the risks don’t exist. This is a risky sport, understand the risks and try to minimize them, but accept that they can’t all be controlled. Make a personal choice to accept them or not. One of the best quotes I’ve heard is from a friend with 12,000 jumps and 20+ years in the sport. He was talking about the long list of friends he watched die or become crippled and he said, “This sport is the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done, but it also eventually extracts an enormous price.” Keep your eyes open and make your own decisions.
