  1. Depending on the individual, it can enhance or complicate the learning process. I taught scuba diving full time for many years. Some of my most difficult students were the ones with strong swimming skills. Since many of these skills (proper kick and breathing technique for example)are completely different than those in scuba, it took longer to master because they had to overcome years of muscle memory and habit to develop the correct methods for scuba. This is where the student attitude can make a difference. As an experienced skydiver, if they go into the sport saying "I've done a thousand jumps, just show me the exit point" and then try to use the same skills and experience to jump a bridge that they use to exit an Otter, you have a problem waiting to happen. If they use that past knowledge of how long it took them to learn to exit a plane cleanly, and realize that they need to go through that learning curve again to achieve a proper BASE exit, then the learning experience should be that much more successful. _________________
  2. Actually, one of the things I like about Lou Dobbs is he is quick to point out that NEITHER party was a workable solution to immigration, wages, etc. and has on several occasions ran polls asking whether people are moving to other parties (green, independent, etc.) due to their disgust with both parties inability/lack of concern. I am almost convinced that most of his stuff lately is blatant advertising for his book, but he raises some excellent points in the process, and does not hesitate to blast either party if they are to blame. _________________
  3. All depends on the level of "message" you (I mean they!) want to send _________________
  4. I've heard that cutting off the valve stem is a great way to send a message without being quite as destructive as slashing. Doesn't require the tire to be replaced, but does require its removal, dismounting from the rim and a new stem installed. But that's only from what I've been told... _________________
  5. Can't claim the rights to this one (John Rich actually proposed it first in another thread) but it sure sounded great... The innocent looking paper bag in the middle of the street. With a cinder block in it.
  6. Living in a condominium complex, it can be "all the above". Thank god for double pane soundproof windows! _________________
  7. Fort Funston launchig from the stables on a full moon is awesome!!
  8. Well, if talking with them with your dad as has been suggested does not work, perhaps consider having a police officer that speaks spanish come out and "educate" them. Just because they cannot cite them for not catching them in the act, does not mean that they cannot politely "suggest " to be considerate, and what the consequences of not be considerate may lead to. Worked worked wonders on the group of people that lived across the street from me that insisted on turning the entire street into a mexican polka party almost every day! _________________
  9. Just give them the same song and dance you gave us last Saturday night, and I guarantee they will let you take some time off! _________________
  10. Lodi jumps year round, it can get chilly at altitude in the winter, but in a Beech 99 or Kingair with a sliding door you don't have time to get cold during the climb.
  11. "Lucrative commodity" is the key phrase here. If there was a booming demand for dog as a food animal in the USA as there is in asia, then you would see dogs treated like pigs (or worse). _________________
  12. Quoting Truman Sparks in Fandango: "This time, go ahead and jump off the strut and arch back onto this mattress. A good, hard arch. Okay? Let's do it one more time like l showed you. You're inside the plane. l cut the engine. You reach your hands outside the door. Step out on the wheel, dangle a foot and arch! Wow, he missed the mattress." _________________

  14. I have an IBM A21p and two A31p's. Heavy as bricks, but just as tough. One A31p goes with me camping, XC, dz (logging and GPS duties and other outdoor uses) Never an issue with any of them. _________________
  15. Don't know how well they work for starting fires, but they sure do liven up a campfire when you just throw the entire bar into it!
  16. News reports say he received his license 7 months ago, and had 75 hours accumulated. I know plenty of good pilots that took more hours than that to get their license in the first place, let alone flying a high performance aircraft. That is assuming the report is accurate... _________________
  17. Good on the government to turn down this offer, and is willing to let its citizens freeze to death because they cannot pay rather than accept Chavez oil. Yeah, I would say that our government deserves some embarrasment and irritation. To allow people to die because someone called GWB names is pathetic. If the people turn down the offer themselves that is one thing. But until our government has something in place that allows these people to keep from freezing, they should not cut off this source. _________________
  18. Ok, it's been a screwed up week for computers in my house. Got my adware issue taken care of, but now my other laptop harddrive just crashed, taking my entire mp3 collection with it. I have the original CD's of course, but the idea of ripping 250+ CD's again is not my idea of a good time. I see that there are several software programs out there for transferring mp3 from Ipod to computer, anyone have any personal experience for one that works well? _________________
  19. Wonder what it would take to designate a "demstration area" like they do for presidential appearances or the WTO meetings. Perhaps set one up in an appropriate area for the Phelps as not to restrict their free speech, but allow the families to grieve in peace. Perhaps over a bubbling tar pit? _________________

  21. Lakeview, Oregon. Going cross country, got into some VERY turbulent thermal conditions. Felt the nose start to go up, then it felt like a giant hand just smacked the nose an instant later. Glider basically did a 1/2 front somersault, landed on my back on the keel and crack! that was the end of that. Broke the keel, glider started to spin inverted, grabbed the reserve, looked for clear air (I was still about 3 thousand feet above the terrain) and threw! Parachute, nice sight seeing tour on the way down, called a mayday out to my ground crew and landed uneventfully in a pasture. No problem! _________________
  22. Congrats on ground school, now you get to do the fun part!
  23. Yep, thanks all, I have already run Adaware and Microsoft Defender, they both report all is peachy. I have also been on the Majorgeeks forum, and all they have there is for the toolbar version of this bastard. About ready to just flatten and rebuild this thing! _________________
  24. Despite all firewalls, cookie settings, etc. I have managed to pick up what I believe is the Netstat re-director. I keep getting these pop ups, and occasionally another explorer window opens up to various sites. I cannot find anything that specifically addresses this f*&king thing, anyone had any experience with removing this SOB? Thanks! _________________
