  1. Hey Kim- Told Ya so! the one thing I do like about wings is the geometry of the articulated harnesses- as a rigger -I've closed both reserve containers- Give me an infinity. I don't like how the reserve container on the smaller wings closes. Like everyone already said, Kelly is a super guy and he was very generous when I asked him for a team discount for Brain and I. I guess I might be biased.
  2. I've heard a rigger who would regularly do his own reserve packs, not really for anyone else. This guy shows up at a boogie with an out of date rig, and has it pointed out to him. Says how sorry he is and that he will have it packed it shortly, he goes back into his RV with his rig, updates the paperwork on his card and logbook, and goes back into the tent with an in-date rig about 5 minutes later, with a "fresh pack job". guy at the check station laughs, asks to see his actual FAA riggers ticket, and upon verifying this -checks his rig in, no problem.
  3. my xaos is actually a 125, so it would be even closer
  4. I'd like to see the same turn on the same size (XF2 vs VX) made by the same pilot- or the pilot and his evil twin with the same turn to really see how it works. I can see the vx coming back to a flat glide quick once that riser pressure builds.
  5. Jennifer is a great rigger with a lot of good experience. She does almost all of the Skydive Oregon work. I'm frequently in the Portland OR area, I'll be moving up August 1st. I'd be happy to repack your rig for you also.
  6. You gotta man-handle that VX into a dive so it takes like 500 or 550 feet on a 180 (That's what I'd do). I've seen Jason Peters and Dusty Smith start from pretty deep brakes and then crank on both fronts before starting to turn. I thing the Icaurs canopies like to start from deeper brakes than a velocity, for example.
  7. That's cool, I wouldn't want to demo or purchase one and step on your toes, I'll just get a new Xaos 27 at the end of the season like I was planning, carry on..., is that ok with everyone?
  8. rig looks good- out of curiosity, what made you choose that manufacturer?
  9. Hey that's cool- When can we expect a price list on the canopy? Do I get a discount for being a pst competitor? What about for being a generally nice guy and attending multiple PST events in the past 18 months? Got any plans to sponsor a team or any other swoopers with one of these competition wings? if so, who? anybody else flown one and have a review?
  10. I just met Nate this past weekend in Wildwood, super nice guy. I got a phone call from a friend just now about his accident as well. He may have caught the main from another jumper's reserve ride while under his main, at which point the other canopy -lines caught around his legs re-inflated, causing a downplane type malfunction. This is the only information I have received and I cannot confirm this at all, I don't jump at his dropzone or know him other than as an acquaintaince. If anyone has further info, possibly an eyewitness might be able post something in the incidents forum. I send my prayers and vibes and wish the best for him
  11. How much? If you look around you can get a new velocity for about 1650, a vx or a xaos 27 for about 1750-1800. How much are folks gonna be spending for one of these? Are demo models to be made available? Any money back guarantee like with other icarus products?
  12. The young man pictured in that photo is T.J.... Sick huh?
  13. if that incident broke the bird's wing it would have had to fly UP to the boardwalk level- about 10-15ft. Not likely. I bet it was a different animal unless someone threw it up on the boardwalk or it walked all the way up there
  14. nope- it's not me looks like someone had a more dramatic strike than I did- in photo 7-5 it looks to me like the bird is fu&@ed up! and in the lines of his right riser
  15. now that I see the diagram, it looks good- I was thinking of something different- that will clearly not slip carry on--- can someone post an actual pic of one of these lines?
  16. 8:30 am- line up with 200 other poor schmuks like cattle 10:00am wait with my group of 12 other schmuks to see if we're called to be seated/ interviewed for a jury seat 12noon -lunch/ no interview- no seat, just lunch until 130 1:30pm return from lunch to find that I am only 1 of 10 schmuks that has to stay and see if we might get selected 2:00pm fall asleep on moderately comfortable couch with copy of car and driver on chest, having already read a popular science magazine 2:45pm wake up as the only poor schmuk left in the room to the sound of the court clerk saying: "sir, sir...sir you're dismissed, thank you for coming in. You don't have to serve for another 24 months." go home and finish nap-- exciting stuff I know, also I have to go back today because I think my cell phone fell out of my pocket when I was sleeping on the couch
  17. my opinion is that if it's the same configuration as a brake line loop -it could possibly slip if the lines are handled in a certain way. Why not just run a quick narrow zig-zag down the whole area, like precision does with their hma line sets? I can't imagine it saves them that much money-maybee it does
  18. -quick view of Dan with a gull wing just barely sticking out of his mouth, COUGH...as a single feather shoots out of Dan's mouth then floats down and lands in the swoop pond- Dan looks nervously from left to right hoping that no one notices he just ate the poor birds spouse without remorse. Like that, Steve...? BTW I'm moving to Portland (finally), I have an apartment picked out and everything, August 1st.
  19. Final results are posted: They're posted on a bulletin board just off of the boardwalk very near the packing area we used in wildwood, NJ. Everyone who was there saw them. I expect that they'll be on the PST sight within about 5-7 days, if past result posting is any indicator. I guess I didn't mean to say "totally" or capitalize my earlier post, it just kind of fell out that way, it was a minor, non injurious bird-strike that occurred in a grazing manner.
  20. Yes I'll be out this weekend, it was a good time. I don't mean to make it sound like some huge thing, I hit a bird and messed up the flare (I balled up which made me pull hard on the rears, popping up away from water level), all of the judges saw what happened and immediately gave me the option to re-jump if I wanted one, which I did. I hit one bird out of about eight or nine that flew up from the pond directly in the flight path of my body just as I came into contact with the surface of the water. Apparently Ian Bobo and Luke Aikins had been watching the gulls land on the pond and had a side bet for an ice cream cone that someone would hit a bird. I can't remember who won, but there was an exchange of an ice cream cone to pay up on the bet.
  21. Looks like Canuck needs just a little more info: First, Jay won the pro, he totally kicks ass, just amazing to watch. Dusty smith flew really really well and took 3rd overall, behind JC who took second. YES I TOTALLY TAGGED A SEAGULL! It was on my last beach accuracy run. It's on video out there somewhere, I saw it but didn't get a fire wire copy -doh! At no time was it caught up in my lines, it was a glancing blow across my chest and shoulder. The bird flew away, clearly seen on the video, it's fine...I had nothing to do with the bird with the broken wing. I got a re-jump which I promptly chumped and got wet on, getting only water-gate points for the round. Lastly, the "advanced" guys (I'm one of them) jumped for two days, not one, completed 6 of 9 rounds, speed on Wed, and Beach accuracy Thursday. The "pros" got in 8 of 12 rounds.
  22. Hi all, I'll be flying into Philadelphia on Tuesday the 29th, arriving 8:30 am. Anybody making their way to Wildwood that might be able to pick me up from the Airport please send me a pm or an e-mail- thanks!
  23. I'll say this- If that thing was a 95, it has a huge amount of lift for a 2.7 or so wing loading. It's totally possible that with minor changes it could be a competetive wing along side the xaos, velo, and icarus lines. I don't think the design is quite there yet. Somebody who has an Onyx dialed in might be able to show otherwise- I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
  24. First of all the onyx cell design has LESS internal structure than a 27cell, not more. Looking at the cells next to a vx, the Onyx cell looks like: (/ I \) a tri-braced cell looks like: (/I I\) I would say it is no more twitcy, nor more or less stable feeling than other tri-cell designs. It has significantly less front fiser pressure, but I'd trade some of that for a longer dive.
