  1. When I dump my footage back to the camcorder (PC9) or burn it onto CD (havent tried DVD as the machine doesnt have Superdrive) it starts out ok, then becomes more and more jerky. I am using a G4 powerbook running at 1.33GHz. It only has 512 Mb of RAM - could this be the problem? Am I looking at a GBP120 RAM upgrade to 1Gb? One day I will finally get to burn quality DVDs (got my new LaCie d2 arriving today) and can stop filling up this forum with my problems Use your wings Johnny....
  2. MB38 and stratostar thanks for your comments. I forget if you can burn DVDs on an external drive from *within* iDVD My read on this is that you can't. The 'Disk Image' idea is a good one, especially if you want to make additional copies in the future (it saves all the encoding time I think) but it still relies on the Mac software - Toast in my case - recognising the burner (which mine does not whichever way I connect it. Strat - I just tried sending the movie back to the camera (and I know that my DVD recorder recognises the camera through iLink/Firewire). Trouble is the G4 processor was overwhelmed by the file size (it was a VERY big file compiling a seasons jumps) and ground to a halt. Gonna chop it up into chapters and send them back to the camera a chapter at a time. Thanks for your inputs. Piisfish sorry if I hijacked your thread Use your wings Johnny....
  3. iDVD only works if you have a Superdrive IRC. I just bought a used G4 without Superdrive (doh!) and am having a lot of trouble getting my vids onto DVD. I have a Sony DVD recorder that usually sits under my TV to record TV programmes and watch movies on (ie not a computer peripheral external DVD burner) but my Toast 5 programme doesnt recognise it through SVHS/SVHS or firewire. A buddy tells me I need a DVI-SVHS cable. Anyone else had this experience? Use your wings Johnny....
  4. DSLE Thanks I will give it a go. I have a feeling the firewire socket on my laptop is input only but we will see. Did you get my e-mail? Use your wings Johnny....
  5. I would like to try something else- maybe I can send the finshed video project back to the camera from Premiere then burn it to the DVD recorder/player I have hooked up to my TV (it has firewire input socket). Searching through here I find that Euro PC models like my PC9 do not have DV IN so I guess I cant take the file back to the camera. Can anyone tell me if I am right? Use your wings Johnny....
  6. DSL - I took you up on your offer and mailed you yesterday at an address I found in your profile - maybe it was the wrong addy. Thanks for explaining the Disc at once message. I dont have a VIA chipset, and I havent tried any of your software suggestions yet (like I said I am reluctant to spend more money on the system!!!). Use your wings Johnny....
  7. Still trying unsuccessfully here. Set it up to burn CD rather than DVD and it did actually burn the lead-n files to the disk before it failed (so I guess the connectivity and hardwarre is proved) but no joy with DVD burning. It fails at the start of the DISC at ONCE step (whatever that means). Use your wings Johnny....
  8. Thanks - will pm you. Use your wings Johnny....
  9. Thanks for all the input guys. Error lines like this: NeroVision Book Type setting not supported for the loaded disc type made me wonder about the disc so I tried several, including a RW disc that I know works on the DVD recorder hooked up to the TV. Use your wings Johnny....
  10. DSE thanks for the offer. Nero is the only authoring package I have and I am reluctant to add to it because I am on the verge of starting afresh with a Mac if I cant overcome this problem. I just wish I could get the damn thing to burn . I appreciate the help though, thanks. Seems I have overcome the formatting problem (at least avi is recognised now), it just wont burn. 11. I thought I had it cracked. Got home from work and started from scratch. This time got nero Express to accept the avi file. So far so good. Select burn and watch the file transcoding. Great. At the end of the transcoding I see the progress indicator change to burning to DVD then the tray opens, the disk pops out and up comes a 'burn aborted' message. This error log means nothing to me: [17:16:05] NeroVision Book Type counter: 500, Book Type selected in EEPROM, command version 2 [17:16:05] NeroVision [17:16:05] NeroVision 17:16:03 #27 Text 0 File DVDR.cpp, Line 4818 [17:16:05] NeroVision Drive: _NEC DVD_RW ND-3500AG [17:16:05] NeroVision Book Type request: DVD-ROM [17:16:05] NeroVision Book Type setting not supported for the loaded disc type [17:16:05] NeroVision [17:16:05] NeroVision 17:16:03 #28 CDR -1046 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 1614 [17:16:05] NeroVision Illegal disc [17:16:05] NeroVision [17:16:05] NeroVision 17:16:03 #29 TRANSFER -27 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 1614 [17:16:05] NeroVision Could not perform start of Disc-at-once [17:16:05] NeroVision [17:16:05] NeroVision 17:16:03 #30 Phase 38 File APIProgress.cpp, Line 273 [17:16:05] NeroVision Burn process failed at 2.4x (3,324 KB/s) [17:16:05] NeroVision [17:16:05] NeroVision Existing drivers: [17:16:05] NeroVision File 'Drivers\ASPI32.SYS': Ver=4.60 (1021), size=25244 bytes, created 10/09/1999 12:06:00 [17:16:05] NeroVision Registry Keys: [17:16:05] NeroVision HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon\AllocateCDROMs : 0 (Security Option) Anyone any ideas? I am at the stage of robbing a bank to buy a Mac and trash this whole set-up Use your wings Johnny....
  12. Thanks again. Seems I have the right software just a bit lacking in the ability department. No change there then Use your wings Johnny....
  13. Thanks saskia. I have Nero Vision Express SE so maybe I should take another look at that when I get home. Are you saying that it will allow me to convert/reformat/save the avi file to .vob? Use your wings Johnny....
  14. I am having formatting issues burning DVDs and wonder if anyone can help. I have done a search but came up with techie stuff that I didnt really understand. Trying to burn DVDs through Nero 6 on an external burner from my laptop editing using Prem 6.0 LE. The editing software produces an AVI file - and I cant seem to be able to proiduce any other formats (eg mpeg, vob). Nero will not accept avi (it seems to me) so I am a bit stuck. Started l;ooking for codec/authoring options on the Internet last night but quickly ran out of understanding. Any non-technical help would be much appreciated as I have a stack of promised 4-way and AFF vids piling up. Use your wings Johnny....
  15. Durr - sorry and thanks DF. Did the search and found all the Zenitar goodies. Interesting stuff. And thanks cj for your words. Use your wings Johnny....
  16. Anyone out there using the Zenitar fisheye lens? I really wanted a Sigma 15 mil but they are sooooooo expensive, even on e-bay. The Russian lens is MUCH cheaper. I guess you get what you pay for but it has been recommended by a friend and some second opinion would be useful. I am not a professional cameraman and just take stills (Canon EOS300D) for fun (might change if/when I start fiming tandems). Use your wings Johnny....
  17. Peej - good luck with the camera work, lots of helpful advise and here is my 0.02p if it worth even that. I fly a top mounted camera and wear a suit with big wings. I started out peeling and was missing stuff. I am a simple soul and was given a great tip by Fordy, one of our top camera dudes, when I was starting out and it works just fine. For the Dornier G92 and Islander which we jump (both fixed undercarriage) I stand on the step as far back as I can and drop off the step by sliding down the fuselage as the centrepoint of the formation covers the wheel. This is 'one size fits all' and pretty much works for every formation. Obviously you need awareness of the exit formation and be prepared to bang out more or less wing as required especially if the team comes out 'long and stringy' but this gives me a full presentation launch picture which remains in-shot as the teams swings below me (relatively speaking). There are lots of way more experienced camera guys and girls out there who can give you the detail but as a relatively newcomer myself (still learning) I thought I would share my experience with ya. 18. I agree with Lori. I jump the same FTP/ PC 9 combo as you on 4-way with occasional front mounted Canon EOS300D and it is quite a heavy setup (will be next weekend at the start of our season after a 4 month lay-off!). Neck pain is tough for a 4-way cameraman like yerself so a lighter helmet might be the way to go. As for the audible question, I just cut a Protrack-sized slot out of the liner and it sits in there no problems. Use your wings Johnny....
  19. Great boogie, loved the beach jump. Things I should have done - stayed for the party friday night, and done my pre-second WS jump. 2006 - bring it on! Use your wings Johnny....
  20. Jon I went through he same pain. I am not at Weston this weekend but will be there next weekend and we can talk about it then although I am sure you will get better advice through here. I hook up an external DVD burner to my laptop and it is fine albeit very slow to render and burn (using Nero). Use your wings Johnny....
  21. When I jumped one at Netheravon in the UK last summer I was conscious that for a 40way exit with me as far back as possible and standing tall to get the best exit shot the tailplane seemed really low and really close. Previous posters with more experience than me havent highlighted it as an issue so I guess it isnt a problem. Use your wings Johnny....
  22. Not sure, but I think there was a short piece on his new lid in the BPA mag a few editions ago. Sorry I cant actually check for you - I am in the desert (the only DZs here are STRICTLY military ). Use your wings Johnny....
  23. AndyMan - that was really helpful and informative, thanks. I had intended to order the lens just before I left UK so that I was at the DZ when it arrived. What I had not considered was the upgraded shipping - thanks for the tip. Use your wings Johnny....
  24. Gary Thanks for the heads-up, I will bear it in mind if the US option doesnt work out. It would probably work out the same after I have paid import and VAT Dave Use your wings Johnny....
