  1. Found this link on Industrial Haze. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8gPRgw5_y8&feature=related Don't Pull Low... Unless You ARE!!! The pessimist says, "It can't get any worse than this." The optimist says, "Sure, it can." Be fun, have safe.
  2. I keep a keg of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale on tap, then I will bring home a random six pack to mix it up every once in a while. Don't Pull Low... Unless You ARE!!! The pessimist says, "It can't get any worse than this." The optimist says, "Sure, it can." Be fun, have safe.
  3. Right now I am using Gatorz. When/if I decide to go with something different, I will probably go with Wiley X's. I have seen a couple of pairs and really like the way they are built. One of my friends has a pair with prescription lenses as well (not that I need this at this time). Edited to add: They come with keepers built-in. Don't Pull Low... Unless You ARE!!! 6. I like to brew bitter beers using Cascades and Kent Goldings hops. I like to balance the sweetness with the bitters. I also started kegging instead of bottling. A lot less work and space needed. The initial investment is a little more, but in my opinion worth it. Working on distilling my own drinks now (uh, if any feds are watching, because the law says something like no distilling alcohol, and I would NEVER think about doing this, I am simply making it up ala fishing story ahem). I found some pretty cool plans on Google. Don't Pull Low... Unless You ARE!!! The pessimist says, "It can't get any worse than this." The optimist says, "Sure, it can." Be fun, have safe.
  7. Well, how was I to know he wasn't being serious? There were no icons to give it away Common sense? Problem is, common sense isn't very common. Don't Pull Low... Unless You ARE!!! The pessimist says, "It can't get any worse than this." The optimist says, "Sure, it can." Be fun, have safe.
  8. My dog Velocity was a puppy (approximately 6 mos.) when she showed up at the DZ as a stray. After not being able to find the owner (my DZ is in the middle of nowhere, and turns out the vet believes she is part Coyote) I decided to adopt her. She has since become expected to be at the airport and is missed (probably more than me) when she is not. While at the DZ, when the plane is out of the hangar, she is either tied out or in the trailer. As soon as the beer light comes on, then she is free to run and play. One thing I am thankful for, is the fact that she seems to be shy when she potties and finds places in tall grass or crops to go. Don't Pull Low... Unless You ARE!!! 11. While still a fair distance, Tom Dolphin at Missouri River Valley Skydivers near Kansas City has a couple "big boy" rigs. If you go to www.skydivemrvs.com you can find contact info and confirm this with him. Don't Pull Low... Unless You ARE!!! The pessimist says, "It can't get any worse than this." 12. It would help to know which state you are in so others might make recommendations for close DZ's, if any. Don't Pull Low... Unless You ARE!!! The pessimist says, "It can't get any worse than this." The optimist says, "Sure, it can." Be fun, have safe.
  13. In light of the proposal by the BOD's, I am interested to know what others think. If you selected the more info option, please post what info you would like to have. Personally, I would like to know how much this is going to cost. I also wonder if more members would actually vote, and if they did, are they making informed choices or just randomly filling it out? I have voted in the last two elections and I felt as if I was making half-informed decisions. I read their bio's to learn more about each candidate, but that didn't really tell me much about them or their philosophies. As for proxy voting I am a little skeptical giving someone else the power to vote for me and don't trust that my preference will be upheld. This does not mean that I distrust anyone in particular, or that someone would intentionally change my vote, it just seems to remove me further from the situation as a whole. Don't Pull Low... 17. +1 Although I still get pissed at the video and announcer every time I see it in re-runs and "extreme" video shows. Don't Pull Low... Unless You ARE!!! The pessimist says, "It can't get any worse than this." The optimist says, "Sure, it can." Be fun, have safe.

  19. So, if you only get 12K when you paid for 13K you are going to go whine and bother someone for a dollar or so? If you get extra altitude, say 14K when you paid for 13K, do you go and pay the extra as well? Didn't think so. Don't Pull Low... Unless You ARE!!! 20. HOLY SHIT!! Really?!? Guess I can add that one to the list of dz's NOT to visit. I thought it was common practice to refund $$ for decrease in altitude pretty much everywhere. And you mean to say that if the plane is forced down due to winds picking up on the way to altitude you just WASTED a jump ticket. No thanks. Actually, one of the only times I have ridden the plane down WAS for this exact reason, AND it wasn't at my home DZ. We (the entire load) did NOT receive refunds as far as I know (at least I didn't). As a matter of fact this was at a club that adamantly opposes SR. Also, we almost died on landing because the plane veered off the runway (was at about a 10-15 degree slant to the side, and had the corn not been cut a couple weeks earlier would have caught the wing) and cut through the pea pit with one of the wheels of the landing gear. Most of the jumpers PLF'ed getting off the plane once it came to a stop. At that point I was just happy to be alive and didn't care about a refund. I also decided that, winds be damned, I would not ride a plane down because of a gust (unless I am responsible for someone else (student for example) on that load). Don't Pull Low... Unless You ARE!!! The pessimist says, "It can't get any worse than this." The optimist says, "Sure, it can." Be fun, have safe.
  21. I am actually going to have to agree on this. If there was cloud cover that kept the plane from attaining full altitude, then perhaps the student decided to go ahead and make the jump. I know that I have been on loads that we were unable to get to target altitude, and I did not request a partial refund for the difference. Also, at my home DZ(Cessna), if the plane leaves the ground and you ride it back down for any reason, no refunds. If it is cloudy it is understood (and explained to students) that there is a possibility that full altitude may not be attainable and the costs are the same (different prices for hop & pops and such). Now, the DZO is fair, and if the plane only gets to 2000' or so, they will work something out (planes cost money to operate) but it would be rare a tandem load would even try if they didn't think they could at least get to a reasonable altitude and the tandem student is fully informed of all possibilities and options. I have seen several decide to go ahead and do their tandem with less than full altitude. Disclaimer: Unfortunately my DZO does take SR certs at this time (we are working on changing thier mind), but this is my home DZ and I have a lot of family there. Don't Pull Low... Unless You ARE!!! 22. The question that I have is "what caused the broken steering lines?". I don't want this to come across the wrong way, but when I looked at your profile you have indicated that you prefer to freefly. Having only 29-30 jumps and already 19 of them are freefly jumps then that makes me wonder what your deployment speed was or your body position. I know that there is an age old argument about how early someone should begin freeflying and that may never be answered, but it may have played a factor in this incident. While I agree that freeflying is great, I also believe that everyone should have a firm knowledge on flat flying. You need to make sure that after you have flattened out you still leave enough time to slow down to a good deployment speed. I don't know that this was the cause but it is a possibility and you need to make sure to keep this in mind. You did the right thing for you. Don't Pull Low... Unless You ARE!!! 23. Exactly. Thanatos340 compiled the original list with everyone pitching in. It's been 2 years so it needs to be updated. A webpage has been set up to show a list of DZs and their status on this so that we don't have to continually post updated lists in this thread, just the link to that page. There will be links on that page where people can send an email to the host to update info on their DZ. More info to follow when I have had a chance to delve into this. I've got a busy life, taking care of two girls and re-grading the yard with a front end loader so any work I do is usually after the family is asleep for the night, so bear with me. Then please post the link. Don't Pull Low... Unless You ARE!!! The pessimist says, "It can't get any worse than this." The optimist says, "Sure, it can." Be fun, have safe.
