Winsor, my deepest apologies. I now understand that you are making funnies, but we sadly are still coming around. I had the honor in Türkiye, but it was no pleasure, of standing in line for several hours to see the Beard of the Prophet, and several important swords and assorted gizmos. Most memorable was how we were quickly moved along when the blessed artifact was coming into view. The gizmos were available for extended staring. (sagfe)

Some of them get it -- Sullivan Before the Election

Thank you for making crystal clear what I only suspected. No doubt when you learn that we don’t have a department of deportations staffed with 20,000 officers or a fleet of deportation aircraft and that there aren’t any countries jonesing to take their share of 11 million people or that the United States doesn’t drill baby drill but that companies do and they already have 9000 leases if they wanted to drill but haven’t you’ll find something similar to post for our edification. -
Some of them get it -- Sullivan Before the Election

I'll concede, and have done so here repeatedly, that we missed a lot and Harris was far from the best candidate possible. But what is nonsensical to me is that the right seems unable to address Trumps criminality and unfitness in any serious way. For example, do you believe January 6 was a "love fest" as Trump has stated and will you be proud to be an American when he fulfills his promise to pardon the lot of those convicted of actions that resulted in 140 police officers being injured or worse? -
Bernays states the obvious, so in that sense he's right. Suderland simply uses the ancient idea of alchemy to argue that perception is reality. AKA Marketing 101.

It's all over but the crying. But I'm not crying, I'm repositioning. I now live in an every person for themselves country so I will adjust. Everyone should dry their tears as soon as possible and recognize that it's not just the next 4 years but likely longer with or without Trump. They need to realize that our Supreme Court will become a permanent extreme right institution. Exhibit one of our stupidity was Connor, Exhibit two was RBG. Exhibit three is likely to be Sotomayor.

Sure, but in reality our deep diving into that sort of analysis is about as useful as reading the nutritional label on a box of crackerjacks: interesting for a moment but we still bought a box of junk by being stupid. And I'm not talking about MAGA heads, I mean we liberals. We simply do not know how to read the room. We all thought that reasonable, rational people would discard Trump based on his odious character and simply didn't care that Harris had a bad message and started way too late. Biden owns that, for sure. If he would have telegraphed his intention to be a one term President the mandarins would have had time to come to grips with reality, maybe. There should have been a field to choose from, bottom line. So we totally screwed that up royally. I don't blame Latino men, Black men, or suburban women. I blame us. We blew it with our hi-falutin ideas that take nuance to comprehend and do nothing to address the price of eggs on the shelf. DEI is a noble idea, and I believe it's the right way to live, but in an election it's also an anagram for DIE.

In many cases it means packers, TI's, and grounds people. But never in the case of a DZ where folks are concerned about our southern border. And too often they are making so much money they are buying houses out from under Doctors and Lawyers.

Sorry, I assumed you voted. You say John lives a good life, I disagree. He drives a little old car without a roof and plays with toy airplanes, and wears a Christopher Columbus hat. Frankly, I find that sad. But he did used to be someone and deserved a fat payday for all of the work he put in to do what he did. The question is: who should pay for it all, individuals or society? Would you be cool with a national program that covered tuition at community college for an AA and then a state college for the rest of the ride?

The system of realtors raises the cost of Real Estate. You are a very real part of that machine, are you an important cause of the high cost of real estate?

You wrote the book, tell us why.

We don't have the cojones.

Could be, but some actual data would be nice; a taco truck in the driveway and a piñata hanging from a tree might be persuasive. The problem is that to rent a house you need to prove you can pay the rent, that usually means a credit rating, an application in english, and a job. So even if the renter isn't legally documented, and we can safely guess no one in Mexico or Honduras is sending them money, they must have a job or possibly two jobs. So, as those jobs weren't made up for the purposes of international relations, we should have a solid idea about happens to those businesses, and the general economy, when those workers are no longer available.

Absolutely. And that wish casting and 5 bucks will get you a Latte at Starbucks. There are no consolations today, just reality and how we make the best of it.

Elon Musk, Trump, Security Concerns for America

Brother, we can be as angry as we want but the truth of Keyne's statement holds. Today, tomorrow, or a year from now we will all be in line with the new facts. That's just how we work. -
Well, you know what's going on so please put together some private group where we can detox. This site, I think, has low value so hoping for a savior is not a good play.

With an uncertain future now certain all of the arguing will become moot. As we get used to the new normal Brents railings will become uninteresting as arguing points as we all see the pointlessness of engaging. And then this forum will fade away.

Zero. I get it that the boss wants out, fair enough. But playing the how much will you pay game for a minor website is a loser. Sangiro needs to come out with a number and be open to ad revenue discussions etc. I'm in the biz and I can tell you that the days of fancy urls to make money are done.

Jerry, get ready for a dismantling of the regulatory state. There is literally nothing that anyone should be doing right now other than positioning their finances to benefit from what is to come. That is the only way any opportunity to protect you and yours from what will happen. That sucks but that is reality. We lost huge and it will not recover in our lifetimes.

Jakee, your estimable skills at dissecting arguments are no longer useful in this arena, sadly. Dissonance is now the game of the day. Please do continue for our entertainment but please know that life will not continue apace now that the asteroid has hit.

Good advice for everyone. The dice are cast and all the worrying about future generations, or any oppressed group in this generation, is a waste of time and energy. The only useful thing to do is work to secure additional resources to help protect your kids and grandkids (if you have them) to give them the options and safety only money can buy. Otherwise get used to a lot more discrimination, a lot more Jesus, and a lot less giving a crap. It might be a also good time to invest in blue state trailer parks for when the light bulb comes on for the winners.

You are correct on all points, of course. But airdvr is also right but only insofar as those who returned Trump to power really believed what was false was true. Given that we are no longer a democracy, and given their complicity by the constant sane washing of Trump for eyeballs and profit, I might be rightly entertained by the evisceration of the Fourth Estate during Trump 2.0

Do a search, she often wears black.

The point is that we on the left didn't believe the cash for character carry trade would be successful amongst people who suffer the reality of racism on a daily basis. Too many Latino men, and black men for that matter, decided that voting for an avowed racist was an acceptable trade for a few more coins in the purse. We also didn't fully recognize that too many Latino men and white women would choose a slightly elevated feeling of superiority over the betterment of their fellows and sisters and daughters. Trumps team clearly saw our disconnect and used it to win. If nothing else, we now know with absolute clarity who and what we are as a people.

Revisionist history. Blame Clyburn for Harris if you need a scapegoat.
