    vSCR

    What is vSCR?
  2. What do you guys think about the combination of a voodoo rig and a BM suit? I ask this because I have heard a couple of guys say that the mod is a good safety feature to have on your rig if flying a BM suit. My main concern is the teardrop shape at the bottom of the container, do you think this shape can make your bag more prone to getting stuck on the container or not?
  3. Are any of you BM Inst. going to be offering class / coaching for us BM wannabe at WFFC?

    Freefly schools

Do you know if they are scheduling tunnel camps this time of the yaer or not?
  5. Hey man every landing is going to be different, so start playing with your canopy and get to know it. I would recommend a couple of hop and pops from altitude so that you have time to play with your canopy. A couple of things that you can do are front riser / rear riser and toggle turns to see how your canopy reacts. Also try a couple of times to find the stall point of your canopy and practice your landing sequence. These exercises will make you feel more comfortable with your canopy and you will be a safer canopy pilot. Another thing that I find important is to remember that what you have above you is a wing and that you always have to be flying it. This is especially critical when you are coming in for landings. I say this because a lot of canopy pilots that I see out in the field try to anticipate their landing by either just looking down and not having good altitude awareness those last 5 feet and also by trying to reach for the ground before they have actually touched down. You have to remember that you have to fly your canopy so that you can set it down safely and not that you canopy is going to set you down. Lastly, get used to your canopy and learn to feel how it flies. This is going to take a while but it will eventually lead you in the right path of canopy control. This "fly by feel" will help you in landing your canopy in any type of wind conditions and will make your transitions from different canopies a more safe and enjoyable experience. Remember play with your canopy up high and learn to feel how it flies. Also try to see if someone can video your landings so that you can see what you can improve on. Take care and keep it safe.

    tunnel training

Dave: thx for all the info...but some other questions? 1. Can you fly both daffy and straddle? 2. Will they crank up the speed for a tunnel rookie? 3. Will they let me practice all positions even if there is not a coach there?

    tunnel training

What do you guys think of tunnel training? Is it worth spending one hour or just go with 30 min instead? How similar is it to actual freeflying?
  11. Chris or any one who psycho packs: I have down pretty much all the steps of psycho packing except the part where I roll the canopy. My problem is that when I roll the canopy I get a lot of slack on the lines....is there any specific way of how to do this. I have seen the video on precisions website and the guy doesn't actually roll it he just kind of stacks it. Is this the way it should be done plus do you think it matters (harder or not) if its new zp or not.
  12. Feel the same way you do. I don't want it for others but for my own personal pride....a sense of accomplishment. You don't need it to be a good freeflyer but for me is a personal goal.
  13. some type of molar strap to help in containing the canopy inside the d-bag. where does the extra line come from, inside the d-bag?
  14. Chuck or Chris: What number of jumps do you think one should have before actually trying on a Bird-Man suit? Does it matter the discipline (freefly or flatfly)?
  15. If you buy used gear and think that it does not properly fit you just send it to the manufacturer with your measurements and they can adjust it for a fair amount. This is if the adjustments needed are minor. If I recall correctly Sunpath (Javelin Containers) will do it for about $90 and takes about 1-2 weeks. All you have to do is check with the manufacturer of your choice.

  17. If you are just interested in learning about parachute design/construction about modern day canopies just stick to Vol. 2 of The Parachute Manual. Now if you interested in learning about basic parachute aerodynamics and maintenance you are most likely to find it in Vol. 1. The shortfall of just reading Vol. 2 is that you miss out on a lot of the basics needed for parachute maintenace/repair that apply to any parachute (main/reserves and rounds/squares), and if you only read Vol. 1 then why miss out on a lot of the "modern" day equipment and its characteristics. If you just want to look at things and not study them in depth then just ask your DZ rigger if you can borrow the books, all DZs that perform rigging services should be able to provide you with this and many more resources of information.
