  1. yeah if i don't fill out my log book the next day it stays blank pretty much forever. i try to make my entries interesting, so if some random picked it up they'd be looking for the dude who should be dressed as elvis.
  2. i was getting stoned listening to pink floyd's 'learning to fly'. getting into skydiving seemed like the most sensible thing to do. six months later i was in perris doing AFF. rock on getting stoned and listening to pink floyd.
  3. yeah i've been in a couple of planes that have been hit by lightning, but they are great big metal monstrosities. would lightning be able to find your, say , three ring system?
  4. yep. jumps are alot cheaper, but there is always a neww bit of kit to buy, i need an ff suit, camera helmet *plus cameras), then maybe a new reserve, repacks, a funky new alti or audible, maybe a birdman suit, trip to the states, some tracking pants.....the list is endless. sure you stop paying 500 bucks a weekend for jumps, but there is always something else you need to buy. but, it's worth every penny dude.
  5. i demoed my a while back, after i cut away from a horrible spinning mess. it flew and landed like a cheap fourteen year old heap of crap, which i guess is what it said on the tin.
  6. i did a naked jump, not for anyone's 100th. pretty cool and worth doing at least just so you can put the sticker on your helmet.
  7. i think intelligent design may have had the day off when w arrived.
  8. yeah losing altitude awareness definately counts as a screwup, i meant that i still pulled at 2.5 wasn't the point, i didn't take it all the way down to a cypres fire, but i still lost awareness whihch is the main thing.
  9. i like this thread. kinda like a confessional. i've made some pretty stupid mistakes too. -packed in the dark. had a malfunction. - once -landed in exp. area when i really shouldn't have - couple of times -forgotten to turn on aad and then lied to someone about it because i didn't want to look like a moron. once. -lost altitude awareness on my first half-assed freefly two way (no audible or aad) once. pulled at two five, but that's not the point. -uneven flares resulting in stoofs that i thought were due to sudden crosswinds. ten times or so. -jumped with winds of 50mph at 3k. once (and NEVER again. sketchy, really f---ing sketchy) -illegal two way. once -jumped a few times i guess, after a heavy night, when i was probably still over the limit to drive. -oh yeah, and i lied to some girls in a bar about being a BASE cinematographer. is that so bad? edited to add: i forgot a biggie, i did an eight way ten days after breaking my elbow, we funnelled the exit, my arm got twisted behind me and it felt like it broke again. my logic was 'i can bend it enough to flare. what's the worst that's going to happen? it's already broken.
  10. hey guys, i'm not a BASE jumper but i must admit it fascinates me and i try to absorb all i can about it, i came across a quote the other day - don't remember where - saying that 'there is only one step to get into BASE and you'd better sure as hell know what you are doing', which started me wondering, do any of yuo guys regret making your first jump or getting involved in BASE?
  11. i ordered a suit from kurupee a while back. i think the delivery time was okay but when it arrived it was the wrong colour (bloody thing was pink) and it was skin tight when i'd asked for a big baggy fit. never jumped it. sold it to a mate. but hey, it was cheap, right?
  12. why kazahkstan? well they were living in romania when all of a sudden...... can't say i've ever jumped an an 2, are they the biplanes that run in at about 15kts? look forward to it! thanks dude.
  13. check out the white horse hills, between swindon and nethers. also there's a good hill overlooking swindon hospital, we've had some limited sucess from there, but we have no idea what we're doing and normally end up tumbling all the way down.
  14. hey all, my folks are moving to kazakastan in the next month or two and just wondering if anyone knows of any jumping you can do out there which might give me an excuse to see them?
  15. rock on dude, i use a dytter and a neptune, while the dytter is very good at what it does, i would take my neptune out to the theatre and dinner if i could. as a tool, it's brillant and alti-2s level of service is unparalelled.
  16. it's the same with everything man, some people are cool, others assholes, same with DZs. my home DZ ni the UK is the most laid back one i've ever jumped at anywhere, sound people, really chilled out atmosphere and they'd put up a lett for five of you if you want to jump. i've been to one DZ in particular, in the UK, where it was pretty much made clear that with 30/40 jumps i was wasting everyone's time. so i've not been back there. but it's pretty harsh to say all UK DZs are snobby dude. just thought i'd thow that in there
  17. about a month ago i found myself in a tent one night in deland talking to a couple of US jumpers about our various bits of kit and jumping a fifteen (or so) year old PISA predator reserve they said why not get a PD? too expensive, besides i'll probably never see the bloody thing anyway. less than six hours later on the first load of the next day i had my first reserve ride and my predator broke my hand.
  18. i've just had my first ride on my predator 170 reserve in deland, i tried to have a quick play and find the flare point but with the toggles all the way down it really didn't seem to have any flare at all. landed hard and broke my hand. had the toggles all the way down, just really didn't seem to have any flare in it.
  19. If you load one over about 1.0 you risk having it "blow up" flight concepts: making reserves for people we don't like since 1994?
  20. man that's an awesome video. does anyone know what the song is called?
