  1. My rings are yellow 10k gold (for wear resistance) and a platinum diamond setting(to make the diamond look sparkly and for strength) . The platinum does touch my finger. Would there be more than one type of curved closing pin material? Would that be a TSOed part that would have to be made of something specific? I guess not seeing as it is not part of the reserve system. ~Cindy~ Quantum materiae materietur marmota monax si marmota monax materiam possit materiari? 2. Interesting... My pin is magnetic but just slightly. I have a really strong magnet here at my desk and it barely pulls on the pin. The other metal that is causing the blisters is 10k gold which wouldn't have much nickel either I think. From what I'm reading, once you are sensitized, jewelry with small amounts of it can set you off. ~Cindy~ Quantum materiae materietur marmota monax si marmota monax materiam possit materiari? 3. Ya, looking into it a little more, I think I was confusing surgical steel with stainless steel. Bummer, but at least the allergy thing makes sense and I can go from there. ~Cindy~ Quantum materiae materietur marmota monax si marmota monax materiam possit materiari? 4. Is there anywhere that I could look up the type of alloy that a typical curved closing pin is made of? I am specifically interested in the nickel content trying to track down if I have a nickel allergy. My closing pin necklace (from my old pilot chute) and a gold wedding band have been causing contact dermatitis. ~Cindy~ Quantum materiae materietur marmota monax si marmota monax materiam possit materiari? 5. My husband and I were officers in the club in the late 90s. The trick to getting the club going is getting the word out to the population of students at A&M who want to skydive but don't know about the club or DZ yet. Our best success was simple fliers with tear off tags with an officers phone number and email. The fliers should say skydive very prominently to catch the eye and have a bit of info about getting into the sport. You are looking to inform the people who already are inclined to skydive, not convince people. The phone # should go to someone friendly and enthusiastic about the sport who can answer the basic whuffo questions over and over. When people do come out to skydive make an effort to make them feel part of a tradition rather than just a rider in a tandem amusement park ride. Let them know in advance that people hang out at sunset and share a beverage. Students don't know what to expect and will by default assume that they do the jump and are done with skydiving. We did NSTIWITIWGD first jump stories almost every weekend and the more you make it a welcoming culture, the more students catch the bug. They just need a little exposure to the DZ to see the potential future past a thrill ride. Feel free to contact Eliot and I if you want more info about how we did it in the olden days :) (and say hi to Kay for me) ~Cindy~ Quantum materiae materietur marmota monax si marmota monax materiam possit materiari? 7. You seem to be a little off on what it means to be an atheist. It sounds like you are definitely an atheist but not a gnostic or strong atheist. 15. Mom of 4 here and we recently went through a favorite teacher dying of cancer and a beloved pet which we had to put down. 6 is right on the cusp of fully getting the concept of what death really means. Our son is just a month shy of 6 and understood intellectually that the cat was going to die, but didn't really get it emotionally until we actually buried her. Don't be troubled if he doesn't seem sad when he is told about things that will happen soon. He might understand the words, but not the implication. One of the biggest things to keep in mind is that time works very differently for kids of that age. A few months is a huge amount of time to them. I would wait until closer to talk about death unless the child asks. They also personalise everything. Make sure you explain that they can't get sick from seeing or touching grandpa and that cancer is not the same as a cold. Let them know that the sad, confused, angry, or helpless felings are normal and talk about how you feel. Let them know that the pain of the feelings is difficult, but will soften with time. Understand that they may know words like sickness, contagious, and death but not be clear on the full meaning. ~Cindy~ Quantum materiae materietur marmota monax si marmota monax materiam possit materiari? 18. Try getting videoed. Sometimes it can be an unrecognised problem (like gear too big and shifting to one side) and sometimes just seeing what you are doing helps you fix it. There is often a disconnect between what you feel like you are doing and what you really are doing. And give yourself a break. you've had what, 40 minutes to actually try to freefall? Sure some people get the hang of it quicker, but what other skill that takes balance and coordination of muscles you've never used together would you expect to master after 40 minutes of trying it? ~Cindy~ Quantum materiae materietur marmota monax si marmota monax materiam possit materiari? 21. I saw that the other day and emailed the author thanking him for the great piece. It may be worth sending a note to him or better yet, his boss. It was nice to see a well researched article after so many with quotes like this "he may have experienced what is called a spinning malfunction. That's when a skydiver spins at a high rate of speed, becomes unaware of the altitude and deploys the chutes too late.
