  1. Nice! Looking forward to seeing you there...who else wants to play? I'm down for some more silly jumps...
  2. Hi everyone, Dexter and I (and his little bro) are headed to TF on the 23rd. Who wants to come and play with us? Tom, are you going to be in town? PeterK and Rauk...you guys better get there, or else! (That's not a threat). We're going to have a lot of fun and we're not leaving until the afternoon/evening of the 27th...so if anyone can join us for any of those days...it's gonna be on! Katie. Edit: Typos
  3. Very nice, I enjoyed reading it a lot. It gave me goosebumps.
  4. The BASE fatality list holds too much information that we can learn from to be taken away from public viewing. I don't think the positive image that might be gained will outweigh the loss of a valuable learning tool from taking the list down. It's too bad the national parks won't let us jump there, but I don't think taking down the list is the answer. I agree that putting an intro or description on the top of the list might be a good idea. It will explain the site upfront and reduce the chance of unknowing visitors thinking we are suicidal. However, I don't think it will solve any media problems. If they want to refer to facts on the list in a negitive sense, then they will. Katie.
  5. Faber, there is so much fun to be had when you come visit. It's going to be on! ...and there's plenty of S to go around!
  6. Hey Rocky, PeterK and Rauk are two of the best people I know. It's motivational to see their love for the sport, it really just radiates out of them--No egos, always willing to help. I'm glad they were their to help you out. Hopefully Dexter and I will meet you this weekend at the "P"rine! Take care. Katie.
  7. Josh was one of the good ones. He is already missed dearly. I just wish that he would have known how many lives he would touch by ending his life. He would have known how many people care about him and maybe he wouldn't have felt so alone. It breaks my heart that he could have been so sad, he of all people never deserved to feel that way. I'm glad i got to spend at least one more night hanging out with him. Fly free brother.
  8. Nice choice. Those pictures look like so much fun! I know you told me the weather has been sucking lately, nice to hear it cleared for you. Oh, and your story definitely belongs here. Very fun read.
  9. I can send you a copy. Have you heard the album? It doesn't even sound like Bad Religion, but all the same, if you're like me I wanted a copy anyway just because I like the band. PM me your address and I'll hook you up.
  10. I think their best album is either Recipe for Hate or The Process of Belief. I remember listening to Recipe for Hate with my older brother when I was in 5th grade. Their weakest album, have you heard Stranger than Fiction? Terrible.

    A story

Thanks for sharing such a personal story with the community. You write very eloquently. I feel like I'm right there with you, but observing pensively from the background. I'm sure on some level or another, everyone in this forum can relate. It's comforting that we're not as alone as we feel sometimes. Katie.
  12. Mike has talked in private with these people he speaks of. One good thing about posting this on a public forum, is that maybe others going through a similar situation will get to see what they are going through from an outside perspective by looking at Mike's situation. Thank you for posting honestly as well, with your drinking incidents and not trying to make yourself look like a hero. Mike, you're one of my favorite people to jump with, and you know Dexter and I will be flickin with you no matter what people say. You are always methodical, think things through and analyze as many aspects of a jump that you can think of, and ask for everyone's imput incase anything was missed. You don't drink while you jump, that comes after at that awesome mexican restaurant! The wingsuit jump you are talking about was one of the most thought through jumps I have heard of. You practiced with that wingsuit like nobody's business and you hired a guide to help you on the mountain, you even rented a plane and scoped everything out. You were working on that jump for what, a year? That is now, the wingsuit cliff in the PNW, and you opened it. Anyway, I guess what I'm trying to sum up, is that I like your style, Mike. We've talked about what's going on, you jump for you. Stick to your own box, it's a pretty cool one. Katie. And you know if you aren't thinking things through and are being reckless, Chad and I will fuck you up.
  13. You have a crush on PeterK yet? I have a huuuge one on Dexterbase!

    boots

I talked to Tom last night and he said his Crispis fit him great, he has really wide feet. I have the Hanwags and have very narrow girl feet and I just love them. They have good ankle support, there have been times when my ankle would have rolled but didn't thanks to the boots. Yet, they're not like ski boots, they have enough flexibility. The only thing I don't like is that they are really hard in the footbed and on a long approach it can start to hurt. A simple solution that I have been to lazy to do, is to get some of those inserts that you can stick in your boots. That would help for narrow feet to, it will make it more snug for your foot. Tom said his crispis are comfortable, too. Katie. Edit: typo.
  15. That's awesome you aren't all deformed looking, I was all swollen and sore. My brother woke me up while I was on my couch when I got home saying, "do you look like a chipmunk yet?" Then I tried to swallow some advil with a bit of gatorade (I didn't get any cool painkillers) and proceded to spill all over the front of me because I couldn't feel my mouth. It's all kinda funny thinking back on it... Katie.
  16. You're not the only one, I too have had that misfortune. Katie. Oh yeah, I got pulled over today but luckily he was nice and just gave me a warning.
  17. I'm a Sophmore at a community college in the beautiful PNW. I'm in the midst of prerequisites for nursing school and I just finished an EMT class. Everybody should take that class, it was so much fun and such a practical thing to take if you are a skydiver or a BASE jumper...heck, even snowboarding and, well...pretty much anything. I decided to go into nursing because of my ER shift I did during my EMT class. Bagging patients (using a bag-valve-mask to ventilate someone) and doing chest compressions, seeing that what you do makes a difference to people and how grateful families are that you are there...it was a good feeling and a great type of people. It took me long enough to figure out what I wanted to do, it was like running a race and not knowing which way to go!
  18. Hehe, I won't forget that radio call: "My right nut really hurts!" Katie.
  19. The rope ran all the way over the edge of the roof on top and was anchored up there and down below at ground level. At the base, the anchor was set out only a few feet away from the building. He said the last 100' or so was difficult to gain every inch due to the rope starting to get pinned. At the very top, the rope was pinned tightly against the building preventing him from getting his ascender any higher. He cut the rope below him to free the 490' of weight and lower anchor point so the rope was no longer pinned and he could move his ascender freely up the last few feet. It's similar to a guitar string. The string is anchored at two points and the string is straight. At the nut, it is nearly impossible to get anything underneath. Hope that helps. Katie.
  20. Nice jump, bro. That was some serious canopy flying, yikes! I was very happy to see you land safely. You earned that jump all the way. Glad I could be there. Oh, and I had fun eating all the cookies in your office with your gf and Dexter while we watched you ascend up that thing.

I haven't seen a stunts extreme rig, can you post a pic of one?
  23. Miles may be your friend, but his ethics suck. He is not only okay with being the one responsible for bringing people into BASE that have absolutely no business being there, but he is advertising and promoting it. You are friends and have probably talked to him about it, do you know what his motivation is? What are these people going to do once they have done a couple of jumps, have inadaquate knowledge of the sport and go back home? It sounds like in the UK, they're pretty much assed-out as far as help goes. I don't know Miles personally, but I hold Rauk's opinion highly and he's probably a pretty nice guy, but being a nice guy doesn't make his ethics or actions acceptable by me. Katie.
  24. Reguarding tailgates, the way I see it, these black rubber bands don't have any positive effects. Only the possibility of negitive ones. The only thing they do is increase the likelihood of a tailgate hangup. The tailgate rubberband is supposed to come off, so I use something I know will do what I want it to. Those beige rubber bands cut in half lengthwise are perfect. In reply to what Karen said, I disagree. I think a good characteristic of a tailgate rubber band is one that isn't going to hang around. It's not important, to me anyway, that I save the rubber band to reuse. I would rather not risk a mal and use a new .5 cent elastic. Katie
