  1. What a pleasure it's been to read your posts and reviews here. All the best
  2. Being an old timer ... I started photographing before tongue switches were available, and can't say that I've grown that fond of them. I am wondering if there are wingsuiters out there using hand switches and if they've come across usability or safety issues or if you could comment on your experiences of one or the other. Personally I like the positive action of a hand switch. And perhaps it's just me, but I worry about damaging teeth with the tongue switch and just don't like having the thing in my mouth. Hasn't stopped me from using it though. The convenience of not routing the wire through the sleeve is a bonus. With my hand switch, I put a mini jack at the back of the helmet so that in case of ditching the helmet or just removing it, the connection will unplug without too much fuss. thanks
  3. I've had my Phantom 2 since I started wingsuit flying. Tried a few others along the way, and they are OK, but my only regret is that I didn't start on something else, and then have the joy of upgrading to a Phantom. I've jumped the S-Bird, T-Bird, Alien, Venom, and Vampire. Who knew.
  4. Just spent 20 minutes hunting for this fantastic resource, which is in the news section. The camera shootout: http://www.dropzone.com/news/Gear/Best_POV_Action_Camera_Shootout_6_Challengers_Reviewed_854.html Sony, Go Pro, Contour, JVC Thank you, Spot!
  5. They've gone to a lot of trouble with their website... http://www.humanbirdwings.net/about/flying-like-a-bird/ They're not claiming to go on human power, so I'm leaving a little hope that it's not a hoax. Just a little.
  6. I am totally impressed. You have put together a fantastic resource.
  7. Well that totally rocks! Glad to have been there, done that. Thanks for this, Jarno.
  8. I'm so looking forward to the extended version. I must have played this 5 times already. The opening shot is fantastic! Carry on, my wayward son ;-)
  9. Thanks for the response Jarno. Can you tell me.. It looks like the modification doesn't allow for complete cutaway of the wings. I'm assuming you can reach your toggles after cutting away..
  10. Is it possible to convert an older style Phantom 2 to a Phantom 2 Z? It would be great to get into and out of it faster... thanks, Paul Litherland
  11. Well, I had a blast and I can only hope that I will be even less of a geek next year. Here's some video of my time at Flock n Dock.. It's 111 MB and 12 minutes http://paullitherland.com/skydive/FlocknDock6.mov
  12. Great to meet you Ralph and thanks for the video, it's great. Now to the studio and get my own FnD video online... cheers, Paul
  13. I put a couple of photos up on my site.. I only took my still camera on a couple of jumps. cheers, Paul http://paullitherland.com/skydive/flockndock2010.html
  14. A super interesting meeting. A day full of extremes. I am so lucky to be here. What great people. We are alive.
  15. Hi, Does anyone have any leads on apartments to rent or trailers on the DZ available for a week during Flock n Dock?. arriving Wednesday night, leaving following Wednesday... Totally looking forward to it! Pip and Judy's trailers are all booked.. thanks, Paul from Montreal
  16. Looking forward to seeing everyone there! Paul from Montreal
  17. Found this on Engadget - I want one. Presently 3K, soon to be released in a 5K model http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/09/red-scarlet-and-bomb-evf-surprise-hands-on/
  18. Thanks Jarno, it was a blast to meet you, and begin my wingsuit experience with everyone there. 100 WS jumps and counting Paul from Montreal
  19. What settings are you using for Handbrake that allows you for easy opening in FCP.? I just transcodied a clip, but FCP says it doesn't recognize the file type, so something is amiss, evidently. cheers, Paul Litherland
  20. Thanks for your response! It's possible I didn't set the bit rate high enough in the MP4 test that I did, but I found that the contrast of the image increased using this codec and dark areas tended to lose detail. That's why I went to Photo JPEG. I am using QT Pro 7.6.4, but the sound in the SD files out of the CX100 is AAC not PCM, so once it's converted, yes it plays fine, but not in it's native format, unless there's a setting I can make in the camera...
  21. I know that most people are using the CX100 to shoot HD footage, but for compatibility with an older project, I made the decision to shoot in Standard Def, and am now faced with a few work flow decisions. The format is MPEG 1/2 for the standard def. It looks great played back in Videolan. Of course, Quicktime won't play it back natively, there's no sound. What a drag. So after trying many variations of codecs I decided that using photo-Jpeg at 95 % quality seemed to retain the best ratio of quality to file size. Unfortunately Final Cut doesn't do Real time render with this. Transcoding to DV format looks absolutely terrible. I used MPEG Streamclip for the transcoding and I'm not sure but I think I got the interlacing backwards, as the movement is a bit jerky, especially for a slow motion section. Anyone else have a Workflow in place for using the CX100 in Standard Def mode that makes some sense? Paul
  22. Because the camera body is a 100 grams lighter than the Canon body, and with my old neck, that makes a difference.
