  3. I wouldn't say that it is clear. That it happened it clear. What made it happen is not. It could be attributable to rigger error or other factors as yet undiscovered? I think that the impact of this decision is going to be huge. Most of my rigs for the season are now out of commission and half my customers will be grounded. I am fortunate that I can afford to by replacements for my work gear but many DZs will not be so fortunate. I think this could have been resolved more effectively with an advisory requiring inspection after any low pull incident. I have also hear (not verified) that Aviacom have not been given access to the rig that has the mentioned incident. How are they to investigate it in this case? Don't get me wrong I think Aviacom have not offered the best customer response in the past and this is probably at least in part why they are now in this position. But I think a response that would not have screwed a large part of the skydiving population would have been in order. I hope for everyones sake that this will have a resolution soon. Right now I am sitting on $30Ks worth of bricks. https://www.burblesoftware.com
  4. Paul Rossouw is going to be holding a canopy piloting skills course at Skydive Tecumseh (http://www.skydivemichigan.com) April 18th to 19th. Paul is an AFF instructor, tandem instructor and pro swooper, medaling at three world meets. Paul has also been a test pilot for a major canopy manufacturer. The course is aimed at all skill levels ranging from achieving stand up landings to improving your swoop. The course will be held over two days starting at 6pm on Friday 18th Schedule: Friday 18th - 6pm: Beginners/intermediate class Saturday 19th all day: Put what you learned into practice. Paul will video your landings and work with you to improve your skills Saturday 19th after sunset: Advanced class. Cost of the course will be $20.00 each + jumps. It's up to you how many jumps you put in on Saturday. I'm keen for Skydive Tecumseh to become the center of excellence for canopy piloting skills in the Mid West. The more you know about piloting your canopy the safer you are and the more fun you will have. Doesn't matter if your on a PD210 or a velocity 84. I hope all of you will take advantage of the opportunity to work on your canopy piloting skills. Either post here or PM me f you want to sign up for the course. Feel free to ask questions. 5. In Reply To: Helicopter question.... Just a though coming from a non "air technical" background. It seems to me intuitively that the method by which a helicopter generates it's forward speed and lift would tend to (for want of a better description), neutralize or at least distribute more evenly, any turbulence encountered. I am thinking of this in kind of the same way as to opposing waves (sound/water/whatever) will tended to neutralize one another. A helicopter must generate it's own strong localised waves of air disturbance. I'm guessing that in a somewhat chaotic manner this serves to defeat some of the natural turbulence it may encounter. If someone knows about helicopter flight. I'd appreciate a reply even if it's to tell me I'm totally off base with my theory. Cheers Franz https://www.burblesoftware.com
  6. I've just been through the macbook buying decision process. If you normalise the price, getting rid of the memory in the machines because you'll want 2.0gb whatever and you won't buy from apple cos it's a rip off.... You end up with a price diff between the 2.0 white macbook and the 2.0 macbook pro of around $560. That's basically for a 15" display. better graphics card, more dedicated graphics memory, an express slot, back lit keyboard. It's up to you if it's worth the money. I bought a 15" one with a 23" display and the combination rocks. One of the main things that put me off the macbook was the glossy screen. You really should make sure you see one in person before you make a buying decision. The glossy stuff makes colours artificially richer but it also reflects the room behind you!!! For photo and video editing I think that makes it a real no no. Hope that helps a bit! Franz http://www.stuntphoto.com https://www.burblesoftware.com
  7. Ok. I've put a fair amount of effort into this and got nowhere so far. I am trying to use paralog with my neptune os my MAC (OSx 10.4) I have purchased an IrDA adaptor which is recignised by my MAC and Paralog. BUT.... I can't get the neptune to recognize it. The grapevine says that there are people out there who have achieved this, but I'm damned if I know how. Ideas Anyone.... Ideas that don't involve a PC or a PC emulator!!! https://www.burblesoftware.com
  8. An angle I haven't seen brought up yet.. There is nothing to stop Claire doing any one of a million dangerous stupid ill thought out things. Nothing short of her parents locking in her room for another couple of years any way. So anyway although I still agree with a lot of the caveats raised by people and I personally wouldn't want to be mixed up in this situation. Isn't one positive side to this, that clair is being educated and not doing this on her own!! There's nothing to stop her being out there doing it anyway. Except maybe not having a rig!!!! I recall when I was 11 I used to visit a sand quarry with my mates, we would "BASE" of the cliffs a couple of stories high without a parachute, hit a rolling bank of sand and slide/tumble the rest of the way down. Sure our parents would have freaked if they'd seen it but they didn't, it still happened .. frequently. Kids if they want to WILL find some kind of trouble to be in ... 9. Very sad news. I'm very gratefull that Gus was one of the first people I encountered when I started in this sport. He shot 110% video for my AFF and shared gentle wisdom on the ground. Thank you Gus. Blue Skies... https://www.burblesoftware.com
  10. Yep. It's a great feeling. I kind of miss it. It was genuinely the only nerve racking bit for me when I was learning, I've heard a lot of people say the same thing. It's funny how that opening door sets all of your instincts on fire, ringing alarm bells. I couldn't figure why I wasn't more nervous about actually leaving the plane but I guess the answer is that you are just too overloaded with stuff to do at that point to care about feeling nervous. Like many people I didn't really remember my first couple of jumps. but I did remember that bloody door opening!! https://www.burblesoftware.com
  11. Might help if I mention the places these were taken, Perris Valley, San Diego, Titusville, Z-Hills. Deland, Arizona, Empuria Brava, Alvor-Portugal and Tecumseh-Michigan. https://www.burblesoftware.com
  12. I'm trying to compile a list of names to go with photographs I've taken. I'm really crap with names so I tend to forget them if I jump with someone just the once. Anyway if you recognise yourself or someone else on my website please let me know. http://www.stuntphoto.com Cheers Franz Oh Yeh! You can email me : [email protected] https://www.burblesoftware.com
