  1. Gee, I thought I was desperate having not jumped since 12/16/06. I hope it works out for ya! David
  2. Thanks much for the infp. Why is Rantoul closed at night? No details about it in the usual pilot info online. Must be a boogie thing. David
  3. I was a pilot for five years prior to skydiving. It did help me understand a lot and the instructors actually had me help demonstrate the patterns while they talked. Seemed good for them, made me nervous and leery of teaching new students something someone else technically should be teaching. As for the landing flare, being a pilot hasn't helped me. I still have trouble landing but I think there may be a mental block as I was doing landings better before I got hurt from a landing accident. Good luck! David
  4. Sounds like a tempting idea! But I am trying to become a professional pilot so that may not work out for me to do that. David
  5. I wish I owned a plane. This would be a rental flight. I am not only a poor skydiver, but poor pilot to. David
  6. Thanks for all the info everyone. I want to go to every boogie I can this year, but I don't know which ones will actually happen due to work and money constraints though. I figured I could mix my two favorite things to do by flying from Ohio to Illinois for the weekend of fun. We will see what others I can make as time goes on. David
  7. Hi everyone. First question: is WFFC too busy/dangerous or way too much for the A licensed jumper that may/may not get his B license in time? Second question: I have the opportunity to fly myself to WFFC with a private plan flown by me and camp out under the wing. Is this practical to do as in is there a place to park the plane and camp close to the activities and is it woo risky for me to even fly the plane in to the airport during the event. Night time would probably be preferable for flying in and out. Flying in would be a blast to me so that I could combine my favorite 2 activities. If I don't fly, would possibly take the Harley and camp that way. TIA, David
  8. Having injured mine twice since July due to skydiving of all things, go figure!, it takes 2-4 weeks for all the pain to go away. Started jumping my second tail bone injury while it still hurt to sit on. Didn't' hurt to stand up or jump. David
  9. He's funny but he has also convinced me I no longer want to try that. No nbeed to get hurt again. David
  10. Whats the jump plane made out of, platinum? I was under the assumption that most skydivers, including myself, are poor. I would love to do it, but can't afford it. I am sure airfare and other living costs aren't included probably.
  11. Sooooo, what's a tertiary reserve anyway for those of us not in the know? David
  12. The FAA website is duats.com which you have to be a pilot with a medical or pilot certificate to use. Here is a public one: http://www.efalk.org/metar.html David
  13. What's so hard to understand about this current condition report: KCMH 300151Z 16010KT 10SM SCT090 OVC150 18/12 A3011 RMK AO2 SLP195 T01780122 And the forecast: KCMH 292337Z 300024 16008KT P6SM SCT040 BKN120 FM0700 17010KT P6SM SCT035 OVC070 FM1400 18012G22KT P6SM VCSH SCT025 OVC060 TEMPO 1922 5SM -SHRA BR OVC025 FM2200 19014G24KT 5SM -SHRA BR OVC020 ???? I know it is confusing. I am a pilot and I sometimes have a problem with it. I use a website that gives you the english conversion if you want it. Nice to have in a pinch. I try to decipher it first though. Need the practice.
  14. IT sucks to pack a new one. I have 25 jumps on my relatively new Pilot 210. Sucks to pack. Gets the best of em sometimes, but I keep going. I have found that since thsi is my first winter season, it is even harder to pack. More bulky in colder weather. David
  15. I am starting my instrument rating tomorrow. I charged my way through my PPL and it hurt. Now I am getting a low interest education loan along with my Veteran's benefits to pay for my follow-on ratings including commercial and CFI. Good luck though. Flying is as good or better than skydiving. I learned to fly a plane first. Skydiving came about 5 years later. Good luck! David
  16. My first guess would be liability or safety.
  17. I for one would suggest a little of both. I have about 1.5 hours of tunnel time which I dispersed all throughout my AFF training and subsequent A license trials. It helped a lot. Now that I am no longer nerar a tunnel I find I am missing it and it is a lot harder to progress skills in a 60 second free fall jump. So, do a 5-15 minute block then do a coach jump or two and see how much it helped you. Make sure the coach jump relates somehow, if possible, to the tunnel practice. This is how my coach recommended I do it and I think I benefited from it. Now, if only the midwest had a tunnel. Don't forget, it also saves you money in the long run. Just my .02 worth. David
  18. lol I don't think my Doctor was all that good. I am going in this week for a follow-up MRI and a new neurosurgeon the first week of November for the actual follow-up. I wil ltry to remember to ask the new Doctor about it. David
  19. Doc told me I had a compression fracture of the T5. That's my story and I'm stickin to it. David
  20. How do the Doctor's come up with this percentage? Mine didn't say anything about a percentage. Just curious. David
  21. As has been said, every injury is different. I had a compression fracture of the T5 in mid July. The neruosurgeon said no surgery, but some pain the rest of my life. I get it mostly at night now. He also said to give it six weeks to heal. Do to unforseen circumstances, I will be getting a follow-up next week on it. Anyway, I couldn't stand not skydiving any longer and 6 weeks to the day, I jumped again. I made sure I could arch on the ground without any pain or discomfort and that my rig didn't cause me any discomfort also. I also planned that after the first jump, if I got in pain to quit for awhile. It worked out just fine. Hopefully you will heal quickly. It is really hard to say though. I still have an issue when I sneeze that I get pain in my chest and sometimes something will move in my back. There may still be something wrong but ti doesn't affect my every day life much or the skydiving. There may still be something wrong and I will heed the doctor's advice. I hope yo uare able to do the same and heal quick. David
  22. I figured I'd update this post again to show you all where I am at now. It has only been a few months and one injury later. I am at 73 jumps now and learning RW. Here is the latest RW video of me. Lots of fun! http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=4924 David
  23. I wish I could go south, but some of us have to make the sacrifice and stay in the north. David
  24. Thanks Stratostar. I am sure I will be out there in November once Skydive Greene County closes down for the winter. I don't want to let my skills "or lack thereof" go down hill over the weekend. I might get there sooner though. I will keep you in mind. David
  25. I did this and felt I had to. There are only around 30-40 up-jumpers at my DZ and it gets really old asking over and over again and getting turned down. Not to mention, discouraging. Although I have gotten some help twice now, I am not holding my hopes really high yet. I could still see leaving the sport because of boredom. I am sure I am not the only person who has ever felt this way. David
