As an update from another end-times poster:

    ===============
Some time ago, I interpreted some biblical prophecies that spoke clearly of the end of the USA, ( NOT the end of the world as some thought), and I mentioned it would take place before the end of Bush's 2nd term.

Well, a continuance of research causes me to believe it will not be before the end of Bush's 2nd term, but shortly after his successor is elected to the President's
office, ......sometime before September of 2009.

This will be the 62nd WEEK ( of years) of Daniel's prophecy, and either shortly before or shortly after New York City and Washington are wiped off the map, a very large asteroid will hit in mid Atlantic, causing enormous problems to the east coast of North America and the west coast of Europe.
    =================

I base mine on the scriptures, the WORD of the eternal God, and if anyone would take the time, they would easily see what God has written about the end times, in the Book of Revelation, which is all about the end times.

As I stated earlier, Chapter 18 is a vivid description of the wiping out of New York City, the Babylon of the New Testament. God told Jeremiah that he would wipe out ancient Babylon, and He did. He has said He will wipe out the Babylon of the New Testament also, and He will.

In Chapter 18:21, it indicates that a large asteroid will hit the Ocean, ( I expect it will be the Atlantic) and without much thought, anyone can imagine what damage that would cause, especially if iut coincides with a nuclear attack.

The Tsunami would be a half mile high ( or higher) and the west coast of Europe and the east coast of North America would be under water for a long time.

In relating these events as written of in the scriptures, most people are afraid of the truth, and therefore shy away from giving God's WORD any credibility. What folly that is.
    =================

So we've got two months before NYC is destroyed, and then the asteroid will come.

Here in the Tampa Bay Area we had a pastor, Bible scholar and professor named Hank Lindstrom, now deceased, who offered many teachings on eschatology or end times prophecy.

Dr. Hank was strong in his belief that the "rapture" or calling up of the believers would occur on the last trumpet of Rosh Hashanah. Which I think is always in September because of the association to the Autumnal Equinox. The last blowing of the Shofar trumpet will take place on sundown Jerusalem time.

He would say that we cannot know the day or time but we can ascertain the event circumstances.

When is Rosh HaShanah in 2009?
Rosh HaShanah in 2009 will start on Saturday, the 19th of September and will continue for 2 days until Sunday, the 20th of September.

Note that in the Jewish calander, a holiday begins on the sunset of the previous day, so observing Jews will celebrate Rosh HaShanah on the sunset of Friday, the 18th of September.

How Science Shows That God Does Not Exist.

Just picked the book up on sale at B&N for $5.98. Anybody read it?

    From one review:
    Quote

Does Stenger achieve his purpose, proving that God does not exist? In one sense, he does. He shows that the natural universe can be understood in increasing depth as scientific knowledge progresses, without recourse to supernatural explanations which, he argues, are really no explanations at all. But all this may be beside the point. For those who wish to believe in God, scientific explanation is after the fact. This is certainly clear for the arguments in the –2 category. But faith is by definition belief in something for which no evidence exists. Such faith poses a dilemma, so far as doing science is concerned. Either the answer to a scientific question is “God did it,” which closes further inquiry, or one ignores God for enough hours of the day to do science.

God has given us a time to exercise our free will.

If God can turn it on and off at HIS will, then strictly speaking, WE don't have free will.

We have free will to accept God's plan or reject it. "His will be done on earth as it is in heaven." Remember that line from the Lord's prayer?

Human will is a component of the soul along with the mind and the emotions. We are spirit. We live in a body. We have a soul. The soul is eternal. Were it spends eternity is an individual choice. Accept God's will and His plan through His Son Jesus Christ or, do nothing and take your chances.

It's up to you, your will, your choice.

Ron, I think you're a bit older than me but we are both the same generation to be sure . . .

I often wonder how it happens that two people growing up in the same country, at the same time, with the same backdrop of world history and the same current events, can wind up seeing things so differently. Was it our teachers, our parents, did we actually choose it or were we somehow predisposed to it?

In the end I think we make our own world. The reason I know this is because so many people over the years have asked me, "What planet are you living on?"

The horrifying parts of both my liberalism and your conservatism is our skewed ideas of right and wrong, and our mixing of truth and ideology. I mean we can't both be right, but I do see ways we both could be wrong. I envy you in a way because living in a black and white world (America right or wrong) seems like it would be somewhat comforting. But I see the world as more complicated than that and I've resigned myself to dying without ever knowing the truth of things. And I'm convinced that's how it's supposed to be. When we both get to heaven you'll walk right in and be happy as a clam. I'll be the guy holding up the line demanding to know, "What the fuck was that all about?"

It's possible you served in the military like I did. And it was our generation that carried the brunt of the Vietnam War. When my four years in the Marines was over in the mid-70s I landed at an airport in California and you know who was there to meet me? Not my family and friends, Not protesters either. It was worse, it was absolutely nobody. I was like the guy in that current TV spot where the returning soldier sees no one as he walks around a deserted city. The people I did see not only acted like I wasn't there they purposely looked away. But I didn't start squirting tears. I understood and I got over it. I picked up my seabag, walked out the door, and got on with things.

Our military actions are a matter of public policy, and public policy is set by - wait for it - we the people. And this modern idea of treating our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines like sacred cows is very worrisome to me. It's like we have a cart and a horse but we can't figure out which one goes first.

Do you honestly think it was Uncle Walter who changed the minds of the American people on the war? The majority of the people were already against the war when he said what he did. Everyone I served with, besides the most brain-dead, knew the war in Vietnam was at worst un-winnable, and at best a stalemate we could have continued on with indefinity. But fifty eight thousand American lives lost in Vietnam was enough for me. Did we waste those people? No, because, when you get right down to it Soldiers fight for the same thing in every war. They fight to keep themselves, and the guy next to them alive. And the old saying is wrong, there are atheists in foxholes, but what there isn't, is politicians.

Since we are on the way to SC I'll add this. You pick up the Bible and find truth in it. So much so you include Bible quotes in your sig line. That's cool, it's a book full of very witty stuff. But I can pick up Melville's Moby Dick and find the same truths. But I'm not going to base my entire existence on a fictional white whale.

Two important men died recently. Walter Cronkite and Robert McNamara. One man was a seeker of truth and the other was an asshole with American blood on his hands. Do you know which was which? You can learn foreign policy from John Wayne movies, or you can base it on something real. We have that choice in America. And that's the one and only truth of things . . .

    NickD :)

I remember Walter Cronkite all the way back to the Sunday program "You were there" with Mike Douglas. He was part of my first stage years. However, my strongest memory of Mr. Cronkite is his news coverage of the 1968 Tet Offensive. His liberal bias portrayed the North Vietnamese and Viet Cong as a superior force and was a paramount influence in vilifying the American military. The U.S. and its allies were victorious in every battle during Tet yet Cronkite portrayed us as inferior. Good by and good riddance to the liberal icon.

    "God bless you brother"

not to get off subject, but why do I get blessed, when I have an allergic reaction? you know "ahh...choo!" "god bless you."

It is my understanding that custom comes from the old belief that all impulsive behavior is instigated by a satanic force. Therefore, an impulsive sneeze is corrected by a blessing.

There is some merit to that belief. In the substance abuse/chemical dependency field we focus on the impulsive behavior of the alcoholic/addict. Those folks are impulsive and lack structure in their lives. They tend to live only in the moment and unable to defer satisfaction.

We work with the FTA model as a learning tool.

Feelings lead to thoughts which lead to actions which lead to feelings and so on. We have to learn to expand the thought process. Oswald Chambers says, "We must change impulse into intuition by discipline."

From the standpoint of Christian therapy, the soul is comprised of the mind, emotions and will. To save your soul is an exercise of your will. The individual must decide in favor of salvation. In this aspect a technique developed by Charles Solomon called Spirituotherapy teaches to individual to place Christ at the center replacing self as the guide to proper action. This Christ-centeredness is accomplished by the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

An individual receives the indwelling of the Holy Spirit upon accepting Jesus Christ. Receiving the Holy Spirit is known as being "born again."

2 Corinthians 5:17 (New King James Version)

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

We have found something, God, that provides peace of mind, security in trials and tribulation, joy in life and the promise of eternity in heaven with Jesus. All we choose to do is share the good news and become light.

The light reveals truth and dispels the darkness and this produces conviction. Conviction is not accepted easily; it is difficult to see it as liberating.

God judges the heart of the individual. The Wycliff Bible Translators and their tech branch JAARS are dedicated to taking the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ to all people groups in the world.

I'm mostly talking about past times, when JAARS and others didn't really exist. See, you have a dilemma here. If the God judges the heart of the individual, why would anyone need Christianity and Jesus at all? But if following Jesus is a hard requirement from God, then why was it so cruel to push millions of people into hell just because they never heard of Jesus?

Who am I to question God? Before Jesus was crucified to pay the atoning price for the sins of all mankind and then was resurrected and then commissioned Paul to carry the message to the Gentiles, before all that, only God's chosen people had access to him. All others were the ungodly.

There is much written on the Dispensations of God and His Word. He has done and is doing different works at different times. This era is known as the dispensation of grace. That means the door to eternal life is open to all who ask for it.

    Lenin proud of ‘czars’

Both Shirley Uphouse and W.R. “Mac” MacDiarmid were correct in their thoughtful concerns about President Barack Obama’s appointments of more than 20 highly paid insiders known as “czars.”

Questionable qualifications aside, these people are expensive and unnecessary to the proper functioning of our government. Their positions are, for the most part, powerful and unchecked. They create an unneeded layer of bureaucracy impeding both transparency and accountability.

Accountable only to Obama, the czars have significant free reign to impact major operations and spending of tax dollars.

Why didn’t the surgeon general address the public during the swine flu situation? Obama hadn’t appointed one. He was probably busy building an inner circle of crones resembling those found in old Chicago politics to deal with that cabinet appointment. His experiences in the Chicago cesspool of American politics, along with his ACORN connections, are his qualifications, the Constitution be damned.

In his short time as president, America has seen unprecedented government intrusion into business and industry. His “investment” means deficit spending unlike any imagined by even the least qualified economist.

Obama has weakened national security, foreign policy and defense while failing a sufficient or appropriate response to the “3 a.m. calls” of Gitmo, North Korea and Iran. America’s credibility and strength are being eroded under his watch. The president’s highway points to socialism. His direction for hope and change would make Vladimir Lenin proud.

    Hello, everybody.

So I finally graduated AFF yesterday. Of course, I get told about having to buy everybody beer (which I already knew).

The only problem is: I don't drink, and for similar reasons, I don't buy alcohol. So I did the next best thing: I bought some cases of soda.

But it made me wonder: Am I the only one here who doesn't drink?

Or I am condemned to stick out like a sore thumb among skydivers, because I don't partake in the beer tradition?

    Anybody?

I applaud your decision. From 1963 -1973 I tried to live up to the skydiver image. Eventually, I had to leave the sport to survive. 1971 - 1983 are blurry lost years in the aftermath of developing DZ values into the counter-culture lifestyle of the time. Drinking and drugging have done a lot of damage in this sport. I encourage you to stay straight. When I returned to the sport in 1984 I made a personal rule to leave the DZ before the partying started.

The Christian Skydivers Association was started in 1987 for the purpose of having positive skydiving fellowship. Ephesians 5 encourages us to turn away from alcohol and allow the Holy Spirit to come in.

On the positive side, all that experience provided a path for work, as a substance abuse/chemical dependency/mental health counselor. Only God can take decades of screwing up and turn it into a profession.

    The Rush Report
    Obama’s Passport

Posted in Uncategorized by therushreport on June 29, 2009
    Obama’s Passport

This is so simple, I wonder why no one thought of this before . . .

While having little interest in getting in the middle of the Obama birth
issue, Paul Hollrah over at FSM did so yesterday and believes the issue can be resolved by Obama answering one simple question: What passport did he use when he was shuttling between New York , Jakarta , and Karachi ?

How did a young man who arrived in New York in early June 1981, without the price of a hotel room in his pocket, suddenly come up with the price of a round-the-world trip just a month later? And once he was on a plane, shuttling between New York, Jakarta and Karachi , what passport was he offering when he passed through Customs and Immigration?
The American people not only deserve to have answers to these questions, they must have answers. It makes the debate over Obama’s citizenship a rather short and simple one.

Q: Did he travel to Pakistan in 1981, at age 20?

A: Yes, by his own admission.

Q: What passport did he travel under?

A: There are only three possibilities: he traveled with a U.S. passport, a
British passport, or with an Indonesian passport.

Q: Is it possible that Obama traveled with a U.S. passport in 1981?

A: No. It is not possible. Pakistan was on the U.S. State Department’s “no travel” list in 1981.

Conclusion: When Obama went to Pakistan in 1981 he was traveling either with a British passport or an Indonesian passport.

If he was traveling with a British passport that would provide proof that
he was born in Kenya on August 4, 1961, not in Hawaii as he claims. And if he was traveling with an Indonesian passport that would tend to prove that he relinquished whatever previous citizenship he held, British or American, prior to being adopted by his Indonesian step-father in 1967.

Whatever the truth of the matter, the American people need to know how he managed to become a “natural born” American citizen between 1981 and 2008.
Given the destructive nature of his plans for America – as illustrated by
his speech before Congress and the disastrous spending plan he has
presented to Congress – the sooner we learn the truth of all this, the
    better.

ACLU Sues Cannizzaro, Riley Over Gun Confiscation

    Plaintiff Challenges District Attorney's Policy

    POSTED: 2:39 pm CDT July 2, 2009

NEW ORLEANS -- A branch of the American Civil Liberties Union has filed suit against New Orleans' top law enforcement officials for refusing to return a handgun to its owner.

I hate it when I have to agree with the ACLU. But, I've always been mixed up about the judicial process. It took years for me to come to the understanding that defense attorneys had any honor.

My opinion changed in 2006 when a lady, former defense attorney, came to work in my substance abuse treatment program and became my trainee. She was very bright and very friendly. We had a good working relationship. During her training John Couey was arrested and charged with the brutal rape / murder of Jessica Langsford. I asked her if she could defend him, expecting to put her on the spot.

"Absolutely," she replied. Then she went on to explain.

"If the defense attorney presents the best possible defense and the client is found guilty, there is little chance for successful appeal. That is what makes the system work."

    My eyes were opened.

  • There's No Such Thing as Free Health Care
The costly truth about Canada's health care system

    John Stossel | July 2, 2009

President Obama says government will make health care cheaper and better. But there's no free lunch.

In England, health care is "free"—as long as you don't mind waiting. People wait so long for dentist appointments that some pull their own teeth. At any one time, half a million people are waiting to get into a British hospital. A British paper reports that one hospital tried to save money by not changing bedsheets. Instead of washing sheets, the staff was encouraged to just turn them over.
