  1. Too bad I don't have the wingsuit skills or the jumps for that yet. Oh well, some other year. Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. Pelt Head #3
  2. Are there going to be any record attemps this year? Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. Pelt Head #3
  3. I had a burst fracture of L1. T12, L1and L2 are now titanium reinforced. I didn't jump for 13 months on my doctors orders. I also stopped taking tandems and upsized my canopy. Listen to what your doctor says, they are the only ones who can really give you a good answer. Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. Pelt Head #3
  4. The bad part of my encounter was the fact that I couldn't see it at all. I formed on the grass and stayed on the grass in PA. I have been to Eloy and have seen a few there. For the most part easy to spot them. Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. Pelt Head #3
  5. Sometimes dust devils do come out of nowhere. When I got caught in the one that broke me, it was a no wind day. 100 ft from where I got caught in it the streamer was limp. Looking back at the conditions once we were able to, it was May, the temps in the morning were still relatively cool (in the 40's) and warming up quickly (it was in the low 70's). It took me out between 12 and 1 pm. That probably caused enough of a air temperature mix to start it going. Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. Pelt Head #3
  6. All those places are close, I know. That's not the issue. Out of those places, how many, and which ones will be putting up loads on a Friday? I guess will have to wait and call each to find out. Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. Pelt Head #3
  7. I will be driving to Myrtle Beach next friday. I want to stop and make a couple of jumps along the way. This time of year sucks, but what dz's are open and jumping on Friday's? Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. Pelt Head #3
  8. Been there done that, a few times. Always funny. Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. Pelt Head #3
  9. Just paging through and looked at the picture and caption. I had to take a second look. Looks like two guys on a kiss pass. Unless one of them is Stephanie. I'm guessing Parachutist didn't really look. Hilarious.
  10. Thanks for posting this Ed. I welcome anyone and everyone to come and join us. Also Maytown SPC is 10 minutes down the road and will be open on Sat and Sun. Chad Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. Pelt Head #3
  11. This is off topic but I have to ask after watching the video. Why did you quit wearing a helmet so soon after getting your rating? Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. Pelt Head #3
  12. It's funny you bring this up. I may have just jumped my last jump on Saturday. 5/13/12 I crashed hard taking a tandem, breaking my back and spending almost 3 weeks in the hospital/rehab. (Dust devil caught me as I was trying to land. Look it up in the incidents, I posted last year about it) Fast forward to 6/13/13. I did my first jump since my accident landed my upsized canopy and all went well. Forward again to this Saturday. Fun little 2 way with my wife, opened up and flew into the pattern. 800ft over the runway and it started getting bouncy. The lower I got the more turbulent it got. I landed with no forward drive under my 150, getting what felt like being tossed around, just like before. I was trembling as I picked up my gear. I'm honestly not sure if I can handle the fear of possibly crashing again. Time will tell and I have lots of thinking to do. Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. Pelt Head #3
  13. Well I was a tandem instructor until I broke my back on May 13th while doing a tandem. T12, L1, L2 are now fused with screws and rods. My surgeon will not say anything about skydiving until my 1 year anniversery of my accident. I goto the gym 4 times a week and am doing very well. From what I understand the parts of me that are fused are stronger than the parts that are not. The final say in the matter is the tandem instructor as to whether or not they want to take on that liability and the student for the same reason. Personally The surgeon better have a damn good reason to keep me out of the sky. Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. Pelt Head #3
  14. I do like your padding. I always look forward to sitting in your plane. Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. Pelt Head #3
  15. Found this in the local newspaper this week. It speaks for itself. http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2012/11/midstate_skydiving_center_to_p.html Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. Pelt Head #3
  16. pm sent with all his info. Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. Pelt Head #3
  17. I am also upsizing, fron a Sabre 2 135 to a Nitron 150. After breaking my back this year I figure if I want to jump for many years to come it will be best if I give up tandems and slow down my landings. Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. Pelt Head #3
  18. The dropzone is still looking for any Strong rated TIs and AFF instructors that could work anything from 1 day to .... Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. Pelt Head #3
  19. I do always end up with the shitty end of the deal. Guess that's why I work at a sewer plant. Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. Pelt Head #3
  20. This is one of the basics. Is it there? Is it SQUARE?.... Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. Pelt Head #3
  21. Mine did the same thing. I sent it to Sunpath and they replaced the hardware. I also had them replace the pads to the new style. That was well worth the cost. I still had some slippage problems but not nearly like I had. Now I just use a keeper and rubber band on the leg strap. Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. Pelt Head #3
  22. Check with Marc Nadau (sp) at high times skydivinghttp://www.hightimeskydiving.com/ He is an authorized National dealer and rigger. If he doesn't have it he can probably find it for you. Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. Pelt Head #3
  23. One thing I noticed in the last picture that you posted and in the video is the separation between the two of you at the laterals. To me it looks like the harness is fitted a little short on her. Where the articulation ring would be on the harness, if it were articulated, seems to sit higher than her hip bone. Ideally if it is on the students hip bone then they can't fold in half as much and it will be a tighter hook up. Just a thought. Good job on the handling the situation. Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. Pelt Head #3
  24. Was the king air that was getting work done the one that bellied in or the other plane? If it was the one that bellied glad to hear the damage wasn't to bad. Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. Pelt Head #3
  25. I do a minimum of 1 jump on my personal rig, this year I will have done 4 jumps. I look over all the training information from when I got my rating and watch the video again. I then do a jump with an experienced jumper with the chicken handles attached and the victim, (volunteer) trained on how to use them. Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug.
