  1. Ive seen a few teams in the UK start to use them. Airkix for one. UK Skydiver for all your UK skydiving needs.
  2. Too low is when you cause yourself injury after turning. If you think you're too low to turn, DONT. UK Skydiver for all your UK skydiving needs.
  3. then ask them not to. But you do need a flight line, but they can ask you about pins and stuff. signing back in after a jump or getting a bollocking. I think this is an extremly good idea. There have been incidents in the past where people have gone in (netheravon and langar come to mind) and no one noticed. I dont see the problem with signing back in just to show you are not dead. Why is signing back in such a big thing? UK Skydiver for all your UK skydiving needs.
  4. Peterlee is about 20/30 mins drive from newcastle. It used to be my home DZ, and its a really friendly place. They have a 182 and a piston Airvan (9 place). If you're there over the weekend 15/16th July they should have either a great TurboLet (paperwork pending) or a turbine islander. Otherwise there is cark (about 2 hrs drive west) that has a PAC750, or Hibaldstow (about 2 hours drive south) that is probably running a dornier all week atm (probably 2 at the weekends). Thats a 15 place rocket. UK Skydiver for all your UK skydiving needs.
  5. Rules are only 1 non-FS1 jumper per group. You dont technically have to consult the CCI, whether you have the coach rating or not, but the CCI does have the final say. UK Skydiver for all your UK skydiving needs.
  6. I dont know where you're getting this idea that to get FS "on the cheap" you need to risk it by having 3 people that just got their FS1, else you have to pay for "good" people. This isnt the case where I jump. When theres an FS1 going, normally all the other coaches are more than happy to do it for free (the only slot paid for is the coach, like you've been doing the rest of the time). Otherwise, the students coach will find people he knows will definatly be there. Their payment in the form of beer is normally more than enough. Im sure if no one liked you, you'd probably have to pay for them. Dino: that 4-way dive from the manual is just a suggested dive. I know some people who dont agree with it (and dont do it). But it is meant as a demonstration of basic skills and your real learning doesnt start until you have FS1. And like Damian said, its all about safety. People have failed because of a poor track on break off. To the origional topic, FS1 is a good thing to have before FF1, and its something Ive seen discussed many many times. I know people who havent got FS1, but freefly. I also think the cause of alot of the frustration and low timers leaving the sport is through their lack of coaching and just staying on solos trying to teach themselves to freefly. Then they never get to jump with their friends and just get frustrated and bored. UK Skydiver for all your UK skydiving needs.

    Heat

Afaik the bodyflight tunnel has 2 massive cooling units, that take more power than the tunnel itself. They dont have a problem with slow air. UK Skydiver for all your UK skydiving needs.
  8. try a saffire altimeter? they come with a 2 peice elastic that goes over your wrist and around your palm. I find it really comfortable and much more secure than a finger loop alti. Its also adjustable so its secure over any type of gloves (or no gloves) UK Skydiver for all your UK skydiving needs.
  9. FS1 is mostly about 4 points of 4 way, but its also about safety. Ive seen people fail their FS1 due to a poor track on break off. But sarah, aslong as your coach thinks your safe, then theres no problem. My girlfriend only has her A, 70 jumps but about 4 hrs tunnel time when she got her FS1. She only got it because she needed it to compete in the grand prix the week after :) I also had a friend who got hers after 48 jumps with no tunnel time. Its different from person to person, but you're going about it the right way (getting a coach to get to know you) so go for it. Good Luck :) UK Skydiver for all your UK skydiving needs.
  10. In my experience (300 jumps on a sabre 170, 20 on my pilot 150) pilots are less responsive to a quick flare that you may be used to doing on the larger falcon and sabre. You cant "dig" them out as much as the sabre. Try flaring a little higher than you're used to, and give it 2 stages. 1 (for me, down to about shoulder height) to level off and then further to slow yourself down. I too had trouble with the pilot at first (flaring too late). The aerodyne dealer who let me test jump the pilot said that this was common from currrent sabre jumpers. 11. It does seem that either the impression you got about CH1 is wrong, or they have told you wrong from the start. There is no requirement for accurate landings (this is part of CH2) but that may just be a DZ requirement. CH1 requirements: a) Flat turns on at least 3 descents. b) Increased the range of the canopy using the toggles on at least 3 descents. c) Displayed a reasonable level of canopy handling. d) A CH1 written examination. 12. I assume Gallup is an accumplished skydiver. Hes in Good Stuff all chained up aswell. One of my favorate parts of that video. UK Skydiver for all your UK skydiving needs.
  13. They have a bunkhouse on the DZ (6 people/room) for quite a good rate. There is a pool on the DZ (with a bar open in the evenings) that you can use for free. But ask about it when you ring because I think theres some construction work going on at some point that closes it. They also have tennis courts (not sure about cost) and a go-kart centre pretty much on the DZ too. UK Skydiver for all your UK skydiving needs.
  14. You can pick up stuff for less than that, if you dont mind older equipment. I have a rig for sale at £600 (will probably take less) that is an old container and reserve. It has a cypres with 3 years left, main (sabre 170) relined 150 jumps ago and the reserve needs a repack in 4 months time. The container is in good condition (for its age, 17 years old) but might need new velcro/spandex in some jumps (normally replaced for < £20). So theres nothing wrong with it. Its just cheap cos its older, but its all in perfectly good working order. UK Skydiver for all your UK skydiving needs.
  15. When I ordered something from Jersey to the UK, it sat in clearance for a day without them contacting either myself or the seller. The seller eventually contacted DHL, and gave them my details. They told me how much VAT would be and that an invoice would be sent. But its annoying that we had to contact them for this to happen UK Skydiver for all your UK skydiving needs.
  16. I know someone who had the "skydiving may cause serious injury or death" cypres sticker (with the cypres bit removed) stuck to his helmet just underneath his stills camera, so his subjects could read it in freefall :) UK Skydiver for all your UK skydiving needs.
  17. You wont actually have BPA membership till the day you actaully jump (or turn up to jump). Its a paperwork thing you fill in on the day. Its also valid for 12 months after its been issued to you. But, to be fair, if it does say 6 months on the voucher, it means 6 months. Yes its may be a pain in the arse, and you get pissed off with him for not honoring it, but you knew the rules when you bought the voucher. UK Skydiver for all your UK skydiving needs.
  18. Maybe you should get a different canopy from the sabre you are jumping. I suggest a spectre or a pilot (probably others too but I havent jumped them) UK Skydiver for all your UK skydiving needs.
  19. You dont pay any VAT in Jersey, so buying from the DZ there can be a good option as its not as far away as the states. But the $ is pretty weak atm, so buying from america might be slightly cheaper. UK Skydiver for all your UK skydiving needs.
  20. Yup, you can transfer after 10s delays, which is after a minimum of around 8-10 jumps. But just because the rules say you can, doesnt mean everywhere will let you. But if you're that far with RAPS, you might aswell carry on as you're about half way there (in terms of jumps) already. Transfering to AFF almost puts you backwards. UK Skydiver for all your UK skydiving needs.
  21. Problem with UK prices is we have 17.5% VAT (value added tax). So if you get parachute equipment the "right" way, you can avoid it (though its illegal). Buying from a UK dealer will automatically incur VAT. So actual cost will have been about £3150 I jsut paid £3050 for a similar system brand new. UK Skydiver for all your UK skydiving needs.
  22. Just what I was thinking. Yes I know teams are now all about fast is better, but I thought the top flight were normally averaging only around 130? Are you doing your 4 way with 3 phantom slots GQ? UK Skydiver for all your UK skydiving needs.
  23. This is the impression Ive always had to. But there is responsibility for the swooper aswell. My friend, who is deaf, was out in spain, enjoying a coffee at the DZ bar, sat at an outside table. Some hotshot decides hes gonna swoop the outside table, so is shouting at everyone to get out the way. My friend couldnt see him, so nearly got a high speed boot in the back of the head. This guy then came over to shout at my friend, only to be very sorry when he found out he was deaf, plus got a severe bollocking from managment. So fuck off to any swoopers that think that other people should get out of their way. Everyone else has just the same right to be there that you do. Dont like it, go and land somewhere else.
