Agree would nopt ground this canopy,.... from what Ive seen on the pics... as far as lines... id have them measured.... but shes only a hundred pounds... not too much stress forces i feel.. are placed on the lines.... if the canopy snivals alot on opening... maybe... but if not... jump it... those holes are too small to really worry much about other then to tell her to watch them and see if they get bigger.... and still dont see them near a seam,... this is rip stop.... stuff pretty strong... and all... just watch it...observe...just my two cents on this.... ABCD lines.... wow I remember when they used to be called A..and A casscade... and B... and B casscaede.... hahhaha... Personally I love the Manta.... Learned on that system many years ago... also the Laser 9 and Raven... and MT1.. I like and still own a Manta\... it is a very easy canopy.. good control.... dont expect to be zipping around the dz.. but if you want a good landing it cant be beat.... keep the wing loading at 1 or under and she will last a long time more.... Military used to pay over 4 to 6,000 dollars for the MT1... some years ago before the MC series came out in like 92 / 93... But dont expect that as a replacement today... Today expect around 500 to 1000 based on condition... and number of reserve activitions... of course i had seen some on ebay in past... that you had to get this and that to make the complete rig.. such as free bag,, ripcords.. d-bag... cutaway handles..etc... so that can also change the prices... Personnally I would stick to the size you are used to jumping first off. Really from that I would go with your exit weight (wing loading). Dont go over that 1:1 ratio until you have alot more jumps. and then if you ever do go slowly to downsizing. I have always liked the big canopeis Man o war, Manta etc.. at 290 sq ft. Just to always have that extra safety in my landings and all. I got used to them and had not went down. Just my two cents..ken.. I had the chance to meet DEMO DICK at Ft Bragg in 94 I personnally was not impressed by him first off. For someone soo full of him self he seemed to not pull himself away from the dinner plate, first off. From the point of him being in charge of RED CELL I truly wished they had not screwed that up with the ops they had done. As we could have at least prevented 9-11 from happening in some ways. His books I feel are a mixture of some facts but mostly more BS then all else. If he was such a great operator why did he spend time in Peterburg, VA not the rigger school but the federal pin>? Just take what he writes with a grain of salt. If you want to use the books for something else then reading do so. just my two cents on this. I was wondering if anyone had the NSN or part number for a Turbo Wind Meter. This is the same type as seen in Paragears catalog Order# A2271. Wind meters used for determining wind speeds on the DZ. Wow, I have one just about like yours but mine was made in Occupied Japan 1945.. The grease issue i used a water based sovent like used in automotive shops placed on a rag and a stiff brush. .. thought about carbrator cleaner/ or brake cleaner.... decided better less harsh material....working it in to the gears then slowly blowing it off with air a drop of wd40 and compressed air... moving the gears while cleaning it..you will use a lot of rags... once all the old stuff is gone i then use a small amount of bearing grease..... or sewing machine oil in those really fast moving areas... you may have to make that part.,... or have a friend in a shop do it.... enjoy the machine and take care of it.... I saw a recent you tube video with CDS being safety tied from anchor cable to D-bag with one turn single 80 pound. The question I must ask is this required for C-130 CDS drops? and what is the real purpose of this tie? This is not a normal skydiving question but a regular Army / Air Force Rigging question. Personally I would just walk away from this. Dont even think of doing it as it would cost you alot of $$ just to get it done and then would you trust it. So walk away. If its not right, its not. Well after so much BS that we had faced during the past few years. I had decided a few months ago to return back to Saudi. Finally on Monday I received my visa and now just waiting on the ticket for sometime on Friday the 12th, I hope. With the economy being soo bad in this great state of Michigan. I cant live on $12 an hour with a family. No one can, really. Especially when you have the knowledge, experiences, and a BS degree. Well finally I have a chance to go back to Saudi and make some good money... where I can afford to take the wife and kids out instead of looking for loose change to put gas in a car just to put ones self inthe hole again another week. I know I am not the only one, but sure felt this effect long before the rest of the nation did some 3and half years ago... I knew it was coming...Now I hope to rebound with the rest of the country and when it is time to return to the US in what 4 years Id saved, invested, and hopefully live up to what i know I have and can do. I guess the message here is for those of you in this same boat.. to stick in there... More then once i have thought of ending it..Not my life but why go to work or even look for it when the hopes of finding a job or being down graded by a peer who only speecks one language and had never left the city that he/ she lives in... Now that these days are coming to an end for me I hope that those in this effect will take it to heart and set a goal, if they knock you down and they will.... get back there and kick some more 4th point of contact.... I just hoppe that this will work out for me now..... Planning is everything now..... 1st Save cash: If I dont see it I will not spend it.... includes locking up the cards.... 2nd listen to J. Crammer and research the stocks and invest now.... not for a week then sell.. but invest for the kids... (you know it will be worth alot more in 10 +years)... 3rd save more cash... for that home.....(plus then some)... my plan to buy one at one of those low home prices... after all the value will not go up yet.......too high... pay cash or 80 percent of the cost.... 4th and lastly get that kicker asses resume ready... while you work now think of how it will benifit you in the morning... Maybe that is why my master copy of my resume is 6 pages long....?? No I dont send 6 pages I just copy and paste the resume to match my skills for the job..... down to a page and a half... Its in the USPA SIM.... I know that you need at least 100 jumps and a B lic..(15 to 20,000)..... If its at 20,000 feet and up you need a C lic. and had made at least one jump from 15,000 feet ...... Also you need to dress warm.... in layers.. it gets cold up there..... HAHAHA... Not that I am your parents.. Good luck... The modification is really easy to do. Our section did over 1500 in a month. Its just a simple upside down T basically zig zaged on the long modification. What was going on during deployment the long gore whould get sucked in and out so fast that it actually caused the radial seams stiching to break........ we tried sliders and packing differtly but the big boys at the labs came up with this mod. things that I have done in the past is to run a water hose throught out the whole parachute starting from hanging them on a line then running water from top down after a few minutes I then put them in to a tub of warm (not hot water) and aggrigate themfor a few minutes then remove then repeat about two to three times. In all cases this process removes as much salt as possible with no ill effects on the equipment. Best to separate the main from the container and if the reserve/ container were hit with salt water to open them up and do the above process. Once the rig has been dumped in the tub the 2 to 3 times .. rinse them once more while you hang them up (make sure that its not in direct sun light and open them up.... shake them as you run water.. this helps in running any left over salt down towards the end and out of the rig.. Let dry two to three days ( or until dry) Inspection should follow.. salt will show up as white cristials ..... While this method may seem like alot of work it insures a good cleaning. And if the parachute is allowed to dry before it is rinsed you will really see the salt. Hope that this helps.. My best advice would be to talk to your local rigger and/ or to the instructional staff as the local DZ. Due to they may be actually able to show you more then jsut tell you as they will also be able to give you some additional input based on them knowing you... Hope that this helps... good luck...
