I won't be smarmy and smug by stating that I "can't believe this didn't make the lists here", but I really love Christopher Moore's books. My favorites so far are "Practical Demonkeeping", "A Dirty Job" and "Lamb". They aren't really series style books, but they have a few characters that cross over between books...except Lamb. that one essentially stands alone. As others stated, The Belgariad and the Mallorean by David Eddings are exceptional, as is the Riftwar Saga by Raymond E. Feist. And for fans of ERB, the movie adaptation of "A Princess of Mars" is in the works. A good friend of mine reviewed this movie and found it to be tedious and dragging. My guess is that he didn't get the gist of what the movie was all about. I loved this movie and found it to be a wonderful journey not only through the beautiful country of India, but also through the hearts and minds of the characters. It was interesting to watch the dynamic between the brothers change, but ultimately remain the same as they travel together. As neurotic and quirky as they may be, their hearts are still big enough to respond with kindness and generosity in the face of interpersonal differences. Holy shit.. stuff has gotten a lot lighter.. modern technology.... I still have the old school Keltys they used to issue back in the 70's... better than the older school packboards and rucks. Do some running and get in good shape.. the mountains are not all THAT high in the training area's but having plenty of leg strength and wind will help a lot when you start doing friggin point to point nav over them.. especially in the winter with snowshoes on. Yeah, it's more of a rolling hills kind of area right there, but the snow will make it tough enough. And I only speak poorly of Spokane because I spent 12 years there and was ready to leave long before that. I'm guessing that you're not going to JPRA SERE. Dude, we used to say that the wind didn't blow in Spokane...FAIRCHILD SUCKS! I can't be 100% sure, but if the phrase "The beatings will continue until morale improves" wasn't coined at Fairchild, it was at least PERFECTED there. You have to remember that it used to be a SAC base, and nobody in SAC was happier than when they left. When summer comes to the area, everyone goes to the lake that weekend. Find a nice garage for your motorcycle, and get used to visiting it there 9 months out of the year. If it wasn't for all of the meth houses, Spokane would be a really shitty place to live. Ice storms...almost every winter. Seriously, you'll find you'd rather be cutting trees in Siberia for the next four years. Talk to me on the other site. I'll give you the low down.
