  1. What a bunch of animals. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin
  2. Oh, I suppose I'd chuckle and make myself a fruit smoothie while listening to news reports of rioting and vowing to kill all infidels. Trying to eat healthier. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin
  3. Riot and vow to kill all infidels, of course. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin
  4. Are you an imaginary person too? Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin
  5. I suppose that's one way of looking at it. Another would be to say it makes sense to have more than one email address; one for dealing with broad public issues and another for dealing with higher level officials on issues of a more immediate nature. It's why when you have to speak to your boss, some times you need to do it in a different room than the office bullpen. The "idea" you're suggesting might not be for public consumption yet. The topic you're dealing with needs to be kept under wraps for the moment because otherwise it might jeopardize something. Or, are you suggesting that virtually every word communicated between everybody in government be immediately published in the news? That's a ridiculous standard. The email addresses are still owned by the government. They can still be FOIAed. I don't agree with the amount of money being charged to comply with the FOIA, but that's a separate issue. That's all well and good, but do they really have to give their alternate email personas awards? "The new records show the Windsor account was awarded certificates showing he has 'satisfactorily competed the online email records management training'; took the 2010 'No FEAR Act Training Module'; and a completed a 'Cybersecurity awareness training' course in 2011, where he scored 83 percent. Windsor was also awarded the 'scholar of ethical behavior' each year from 2010 through 2012. The only training Ms. Jackson appears to have done under her own name was for cybersecurity awareness in 2010." 6. Some damn fine managing. Damn fine. Nailed. "You know, I wouldn't be surprised if President Obama learned Osama bin Laden had been killed when he saw himself announcing it on television." Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin
  7. Well that's some progress. Those racially motivated hangings used to be quite common. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin
  8. If their goal was to get people to speculate how Chechens could be so stupid as to miss Russia by a few thousand miles then yeah, mission accomplished and way to dream big. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin
  9. Until they make an EV with a tactical luggage rail or a pistol grip steering wheel, I don't think "fear" is what critics are mongering. EVs are actually one of the most benign things I can think of, especially considering the people who tend to drive them. Anyway: So many rules. 10. And the xenophobic deposit box of the ol' spank bank has been refilled. More power to 'em. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin
  11. Might want to try your friendly neighborhood federal law enforcement agency. They have a few million rounds to spare, I'm told. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

  13. That. Eat healthy and exercise and you still might die of heart disease. Wear a seat belt and you still might die in a car accident. It's not the gun-nutter side that seems to have naively lost sight of these possibilities, Kallend... Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin
  14. If you're unable to find live speakers, I'd recommend searching "Milton Friedman" on YouTube and watching some of his appearances on the Phil Donahue show. Fantastic discussions. And I agree with everyone who's steering you towards a libertarian perspective. All social conservatism is good for is losing elections. 17. You know how this is going to work, right? The good reverend isn't racist for saying those things, you're racist for noticing he said them. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

  21. Again, wrong stat. Means nothing. You need to look at how many times a child's access to a loaded gun in the house passes without incident. It's an impossible number to determine, but from a voluntary response sampling of this discussion thread I'd say there are many, many examples that fall into such a statistic. If anyone accidentally shot themselves with a household gun as a kid, please speak up. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin
  22. You're still making the wrong comparison. A more informative comparison would be the number of children who know where a loaded gun is in their house and cause no accident due to that knowledge versus the number of children who do cause an accident. 23. Of course I'm glad the girl is alive, but your argument is based on emotion. Damn, my comments have been short enough thus far--the least you could do is read them before replying. What part of saying that parents are capable of teaching and kids are capable of learning proper handling of firearms is emotional? Even before I was 12 I knew where my dad kept the 1911 and I knew how to use it. You know what happened? Nothing. So whose argument gets shot to shit just by that example? Not mine. 24. Depends on the kid and depends on the parent. What would you have liked to see happen in this case? Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin
  25. Not applicable in this case according to this site. How would you have liked to see this event play out? Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin
