I'm sure the proposed system would keep names private and would be kept on a server outside the US. Even still, I agree this is a BAD IDEA. The dz.com servers are in Canada, but there are Canadian jumpers to worry about too. Who wants to be grouped, categorized, and sorted in yet another system... not me! What if law enforcement signs up as a local jumper? Ultimately I prefer getting in contact with someone through the small world social network of friends and not an impersonal database. The Montgolfier brothers in France successfully tested a parachute out of a tower (building) as a safety device prior to making the first recorded hot air balloon flight in 1783. The first recorded parachute jump was what we today call a BASE jump and from a B no less. There are measurements and a few more details of their parachute in a book I have at the loft called "Tales of the Caterpillar club. Jump!" by Don Glassman.
