The video is coming, but I have some pictures now: 1. You can see my pilot chute up over my right shoulder. 2. Pilot chute fully extended, me still oblivious. 3. The ride is starting... 4. Off I go!!! I forgot I had line twist, that may have slowed the deployment some. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.

This person has 3000+ jumps but they had not had the canopy very long. Probably had less than 50 jumps on it in about a month. I don't know about how many harness turn approaches they did. They completed the unintentional 90 but I think overcompensated a little and that was what caused the bounce. BTW, love your AAD. Hypothetical: Two collapsible ZP pilot chutes are identical in construction except for size, one is 24 in, the other is 28 in. Which would open the same canopy in the same container faster possibly causing a harder opening? Let's pretend it is one opening where the only thing that changes is the PC size. Everything else is identical My thinking is that the 28 in. one causes more drag and will pull the canopy out quicker. I've heard arguements that the 28 in. PC will slow you down more than the 24 in. one. What's the correct answer? Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.

I was doing a 2-way sitfly jump. I kind of hosed the exit and semi-corked trying to get back over to the other guy so he started coming to me. I got a foot dock on him and then backed up and was getting ready to come in level. Next thing I know I'm shooting straight up in the air and I'm under canopy. The opening was very quick but not hard. I've actually had harder on belly, when I was accidentally pulling my risers during the opening causing it to pop. My arms were in front of me so the pilot chute and bridle did not get wrapped around anything. At first I thought I had a Cypress fire but when I looked up and saw my collapsible slider and my red canopy it dawned on me I had a premie. I looked at my altitude and I was at 6000 feet. I checked the canopy for any tears, rips, broken lines, etc. but everything was fine. Luckily it was a warm day so after putting the canopy through it's paces to make sure nothing was going to break I came into a nice standup landing. I actually have video of the pilot chute fabric sneaking out of the BOC and the deployment. I'll try to get it in a digital format and post a link this week. My rig is a '94 Javelin that was a leg mount but was converted to BOC with a spandex pouch. I'm going to get the pouch replaced as I've had the mouth tightened before. I'm thinking spandura is what I'll use. My rigger thinks my pilot chute is too small but I'm not so sure about that. It's a 24 inch ZP Monkey Fist. I've never had a problem with it and I think the smaller pilot chute may have saved me from a harder opening. I have been told I was very lucky and I agree. I don't know what let me have such an uneventful opening, maybe I had packed my self one helluva snivel.

I posted this in Safety and Training as well... If you use harness turns on your landings get your leg straps hooked together. Alot of freeflyers do this, but most others don't. The reason for this is if you make a deep harness turn your leg strap can slide down the leg and when you straighten up for your final approach you may start turning again. Your rigger can hook your leg straps together with a bungie or you can do it yourself with a pull up cord. Mirage has the strap system as an option, I don't know about other rigs. The reason I bring this up is a friend this weekend was doing an aggressive harness turn on a sub-100 elliptical loaded about 1.6 and when straightened out for the swoop the legstrap had slid down so they did a 90 degree turn and bounced twice off the ground, fracturing the pelvis in 3 places. Obviously if your not loading as high it's not as big as an issue, but the potential for an unintentional turn is there. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.

Keep it, keep the color. I like long hair, more to grab on to... Would in be inappropriate to ask if the carpet matches the drapes? Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.

A buddy of mine that broke both femur's on a low turn last labor day said he was gonna ride the wheelchair he was in for almost 3 months out of the back of a plane in AZ. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.

Actually I have told Tandem passengers in the past that Skydiving doesn't really exist: that they are about to participate in group hypnosis and the videos they get are done with computers. Sometimes when watching the video I say see that wire? Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.

You know this Jackie thing has got me thinking... How do we know Elsinore really burned down? I mean, come on. Most of us only saw pictures. They could be of other things or you would be amazed what you can do with Photoshop!!! Those that were there could have been hypnotized. This is just a way to extort sympathy and free gear!!! Before you people draw and quarter me, I want you to know I am gathering donations on the East Coast to send and have offered up a camera to loan. Okay, you can commence the killing... "Ow, not the face" (starts kicking the crotch) "AHH!!! back to the face, back to the face!!!" Not just your posts, do a search on Jackie and you'll see that most of those are gone. In fact if you go into some of the still open threads and try to open links you may get access denied? What's going on? Enquiring minds want to know... Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.

Having a cel phone on you isn't a bad idea in case you land off or are hurt. Just make sure you have the DZ number programmed in the phone (preferably as the the last number dialed) and the night jump organizer has your phone # as well. True. I did trade one obstacle for another but my thinking was its better to hit an roll across the ground a little faster and extend the impact than hit and bounce back off a semi fixed object quickly and land on my back and butt onto pavement. Would I do the same again? Dunno. I do know I'm going to practice the same technique I think I used up high and see how much canopy dive I get. No I think it was a ditch or some bushes. I was pretty far away from the treatment plant. That's why I was so surprised to see a fence. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.

That did cross my mind. I knew I was not going to clear it but I thought if i hit it high enough I might flip right over and land on my head. Plus I couldn't tell if there was barbed wire on top. Actually the place I climbed over the fence was right where I would have hit and there was the gaps and poles right there. The poles were on the far side which made climbing down easy. Yeah, I have been kicking myself about that one. My other 3 night jumps I had a flash light and a cell phone. I had a flashlight and a phone there, but it was in my van which was all the way over in the parking lot!! Thanks, I really wish someone had seen the landing to know for sure though... The 'ol rectangle really doesn't dive unless you yank the toggles hard. I think the other thing that saved me from becoming one of the metal people is my canopy choice. I was actually thinking about downsizing soon. After Scott Miller's course I wasn't sure I was ready and after this I'm almost positive I'm not. Don't get too freeked out about the title, it's posted here rather than incidents. I had been in Florida for a week and had taken Scott Miller's basic canopy school. I was jumping a Sabre 210 loaded almost 1:1 which I had 200+ jumps on. I had made about 19 jumps so far around Florida (1 at Z-hills) and had hit 300 that day, this was 301. The midnight night jump, I was gonna land in front of the drunken crowd. I started the year in freefall!!!
