  1. No silly, per our current gun laws and anti-gun movements, it's not the people or act that is important, it's the tools/associations.
  2. And how many people who claim "we need more vetting", actually know how the vetting is being done currently??? http://time.com/4116619/syrian-refugees-screening-process/ That's just for Syria. Plenty of other countries in the area that similar measures may be needed. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  3. Are you in favor of immigrants being required to: A) State their religion for the record, and B) Being placed on a list if that religion is one of the many forms of Islam? We need better control over all immigration, legal and especially illegal. If an immigrant/refugee is from the Middle East, additional vetting and tracking may be needed, regardless of their stated religion which may or may not be true. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  4. That's not even what is being proposed above nor what Trump said. This is all about immigrants, legal and illegal, and refugees. Not American citizens. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  5. For most, shame. They also think nothing will be done which, in some cases they're right. However, if every harassment, assault, rape were reported that gives police a history to look into when future reports are made against an individual which may lead to more investigation, possible charges, and conviction. The word of one based on another is extremely hard to prove. The word of one based on multiple others tips the scales in the victims favor. 6. Did she try to report it to the same department or did she go to IA? Not saying it's easy or will be successful on first attempt but still needs to be done. I also know far too numerous women who were assaulted/raped but almost all never reported it. 7. If changing the race makes it racist, then it's racist.
  8. It definitely can be a factor especially when it comes to famous people as people can question their agenda and/or timing. That doesn't mean it should be tolerated and/or not reported every time. Eventually math comes into play for both the reporter and the reportee: the more claims over time against a reportee the more likely truthful whereas the more claims over time by a reporter the less likely to be truthful. 9. Talk about negative stereotyping. "All men" don't do anything just as "all women" don't do anything beyond basic biological functions. As for unwanted objectification, unwanted touching, fondling, harassment, rape if it were reported more often people doing those behaviors would eventually stop or be caught/charged. At the same time, if a claim made is proven to be false (higher standard than defendant not guilty) , that person making it should be charged as well. 10. Don't think that the US should get involved in overseas wages, but if all imported products that wish to be sold in the US met or exceeded the basic safety and environmental standards or paid a fine/tariff for not meeting them that would certainly help. Labor costs is not the only reason manufacturing jobs moved offshore. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  11. IMO this points to one of the biggest problems with the current form of capitalism we are practicing in the free world. These days it is all about shareholders profit over the next quarter, which means short term growth is all that is valued. The long term health of a company and its actual profitability are not drivers of the modern business model. Employees are seen as overhead costs to be put in the red column. Employees used to be considered part of the company. Now the company is comprised solely of upper management and the BOD. Everyone else is expendable. The only way to meet the growth demands of the market is through mergers, no matter how ill conceived. The long term trajectory of this model points to a few mega corporations, run by a small band of oligarchs for their sole benefit. IMO this can't be fixed without a major change to the financial markets, which probably won't happen in our lifetimes. Exactly. This is parasitic. The fundamentals of accounting this model is based on is flawed as they have no direct way of calculating soft/indirect/risk costs so are dismissed. Large corporations have this problem internally as well as different divisions/departments have different budgets. If Division A can cut their costs by 20% by shifting the burden to Division B even if Division B costs the company overall more as can't do it as efficiently, they will. Companies used to compete with other companies, now they compete with themselves mostly. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  12. Our current president is the one who made it "okay" to express publicly again. Protests with no clear goal, no end time, turning into riots and looting. Sure sounds like BLM to me. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  13. So right. My only concern was that the Rs put up the "most likely not to be able to beat Hillary" candidate. Bernie got my attention early on. Hard to argue with his line of thinking. Not the party, its members. The only difference was the Republican Party couldn't stop Trump where the Democratic Party was able to stop Sanders, albeit unethically, possibly illegally. A diehard Republican I'm related to thinks the only reason the Republican Party wasn't able to stop Trump using the same methods was a combination of too many candidates and not taking him seriously soon enough. 14. The irony of all this is, if the Democratic Party hadn't been so corrupt colluding with Hillary to screw over Bernie, they likely could have won. The GOP got it's wakeup call when Trump got the nomination, the Democratic Party, the media, and the polling companies got theirs yesterday.
  15. Bullshit. He's immortal. Someone go wake him up. Probably just sleeping heavier (and quieter). Blue Skies Forever Scotty. That big formation now has a much lower breakoff.
  16. Excellent point. One additional: As the bonuses were almost taxed if they we're trying to claw back the full bonus amount, the government was making a profit. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  17. Happening currently you mean. http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-national-guard-bonus-20161020-snap-story.html Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  18. Why is a federal government branch having bonuses they give out taxed? Talk about giving with one hand then taking with the other. Making them tax exempt but smaller would be far more efficient and cost effective. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  19. Geez, even I could have held my breath that long: ========== Carter suspends bonus clawbacks California National Guard members By Michael K Callahan, CNN Updated 11:06 AM ET, Wed October 26, 2016 Secretary of Defense Ash Carter said Wednesday he is suspending "all efforts to collect reimbursement" from improperly awarded enlistment bonuses given to some member of the California National Guard . . . "I have ordered the Defense Finance and Accounting Service to suspend all efforts to collect reimbursement from affected California National Guard members, effective as soon as is practical," Carter said in a statement, adding this suspension will continue until "I am satisfied that our process is working effectively." =========== Don't exhale yet... California only. Suspension of collection only, no start date but apparently collections will resume. No mention of returning the money to those who already paid. 20. I usually don't get involved in discussions of the military since I've never served...but... I totally agree with you. These people accepted their bonuses and served in good faith and it is absolutely wrong to make them repay it all these years later. I would hope there would be bipartisan agreement on this among Congress, the president, and presidential candidates on this. Don't hold your breath. Look at the screwing over of 9/11 first responders. Granted, they were not promised anything in advance, just did what was right. This is sadly just the next step. 23. The SC has been a little progressive in the last couple years. It's beginning to look like a fairly good chance it will be even more so shortly. But even somewhat "liberal" justices are actually quite conservative, responsible people. They are after all part of the "elites". The SC doesn't ever get out in front of the public. But they don't necessarily resist change either. You'll be alright. The Roberts court won't be changed that much. Except for all the new powers they gave themselves during the Obamacare lawsuits to make it constitutional and to work(ish) such as redefining the continuously abused commerce clause and "while we said this, we meant this". https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_v._Burwell It's not as much a matter of their political leanings as of their constitutional theories: strict vs. living. 24. Used to tell people: "The sky will always be there, if ever it isn't we've got much bigger problems than skydiving." Now that I'm over a year uncurrent, tell that to myself too.
