  1. I've heard this was a major argument against skydiving, but don't they use ski lifts to get the skiers up the mountain...or do they make them climb up?
  2. You really are! And you have your clothes on too...
  3. You can probably guess by now that I never figured out how to put these in the gallery...I think I might have to pay or something and I'm way to cheap.
  4. OK, you asked for it. This is going to take a few posts, since apparently I'm limited to 5 attachements...
  5. I'm going to try and figure out how to put pictures in the gallery...but later. Here are a few of the Rat Dog . She is pretty damn cute, for a rodent.
  6. Gravity Rats Rule! Kick ass at the Nationals!
  7. AOTMB rocked! I finally got my SCR (4th attempt). Thanks to Dave Burton for organizing a totally badass 13 way; 12 awesome skydivers for making it happen; Robert Smith for video, (and beer); and Aggiedave, you'd make a damn fine drill sergeant Dave. Thank God that's over...
  8. OK, so I voted that he should be replaced, but in hindsight I'm thinking if he's worth a damn he shouldn't let his personal beefs interfere with his professional objectivity. Of course this is not always the case, but you have to give him the benefit of the doubt. Not to mention it might make things interesting...
  9. I'm sorry, I must be a little slow...voting for Kerry is going to resolve this issue how?
  10. Unfortunate that you were not around in the '60s to spit on the vets you disagreed with who came back from Vietnam. Fortunately, there are loads of wounded Iraq vets coming back who, I assume, you would consider representing Saddam Hussein, since they question our involvement in this war. You can still spit on them! *** Please re-read my post. Back in the early '60s (I was around back then), soldiers were required to wear their uniforms in public. My dad tells the story about the first time he came back from Vietnam, he was in the airport with his two kids, when protestors started spitting on him. He was with his kids! Where did you see anywhere in my post that I would condone that type of activity? The Vietnam war was hard not only on the soldiers that went, but on the families they left behind. I grew up knowing my friends fathers were getting killed. My father, a highly decorated vet, went back to Vietnam three times because he felt that someone who knew what the hell was going on needed to be there for the young soldiers our government continued to send. I think that John Kerry did a disservice to every Vietnam veteran when he went before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee with his lies. I also find it disingenuous of him to use his war record in an attempt to obtain the Presidency. I won't assume you've read his testimony. http://www.richmond.edu/~ebolt/history398/JohnKerryTestimony.html My Dad has told me that over the years he spent in Vietnam he did not have personal knowledge of any of the atrocities that John Kerry describes. If what Kerry claims actually happened, why didn't he do something about it then? You really make alot of assumptions in your post.
  11. No, but their candidate just happened to be President at the time, had to deal with it, and displayed for all the world where his loyalties lie. Unlike a certain individual who came back from Vietnam representing Hanoi.
  12. FLUFFY! Your cracking me up! Haven't named my canopy, but I frequently refer to my rig as, "my most prized possesion". My mother used to name every Thanksgiving turkey, I'll never forget Gertrude, she was delicious...
  13. Freeflying ROCKS! But definitely pay attention to those posts about making sure your rig is freefly friendly. I have a 97 Javelin that when I bought it my rigger told me that if I ever considered freeflying to have some modifications done. i.e. bridle protection. Well that was a year ago and I figured I wouldn't even try to free fly for at least 200 jumps, yeah right. Did my first sit attempt on jump 51 and was hooked! Jump 62 I experienced my first (BEER!) premature deployment at 6'500 feet; on my back, at 140mph. WTF! Fellow I was jumping with told me that he'd never seen a nastier preemie. I'm one lucky adrenaline junkie. I could have had a horseshoe, my lines could have snapped, the canopy could have been torn to shreds. Instead I got away with a shitload of bruises and a new tag line.
  14. At the risk of getting flamed myself, I totally agree with Linda. Whether you skydive or not, if you have children you should have insurance, it's part of the responsibilty of parenthood. It's interesting that you can take offense to someone stating the truth as opposed to whitewashing around it. Also, some people have to be clubbed in the head with "the obvious".
  15. I did a hop n pop a week or so ago for fun. I tried a poised exit but because the pilot doesn't slow down I was unable to get out the door. The relative wind kept pushing me into the the back of the door frame. I finally threw myself out. Next time I'm diving. Blues.
  16. Change doctors. Only you will know when you're ready to go back up and you can either accelerate or delay your recovery, by doing (or not doing) what you have to do to get better. Whether that means laying on your back for 6 weeks or going to physical therapy. I think that a doctor who tells you to quit doesn't understand the sport and the passion that goes along with it. Try to find someone a little more empathetic and understanding of how much it means to you to get back up in the sky. Healing Blue Vibes to you! Teresa
  17. Damn, your x-rays could be mine. Broke the tib/fib in late January, got the big screw holding the two bones together taken out in April, and started jumping again in May. My surgeon never once said I couldn't jump with metal, so I'm kinda wondering what the issue is. Mine is stainless, so if I hit hard enough it's not going to bend, but the bone above it may break. My plan is not to do that. LOL! I'm very careful these days about when I'll jump, high wind I'm grounded, and no wind, I'm grounded. I've done two jumps in no wind conditions and I couldn't make myself put my foot forward to run it out so I ended up on my belly both times, the ankle was sore for a few hours but otherwise no ill effects. Anyway, don't think about it too much or you may think yourself into trading in that rig for a boat.
  18. Fight Club! I could actually understand Ed Norton's character and his need to escape from the daily structure of his life. Personally I think he should have started skydiving instead, but that probably wouldn't have made such a great movie...worked for me though.
  19. A skydiver at Eloy told me today that GB41 was given USPA D license #2000 in honor of his 75th birthday jump. Has anyone else heard this?
  20. I definitely think the 5-second rule applies here.
