  1. Body sport did GREAT things for me and their turnaround time is something like 2 weeks for rush. They aren't exactly local, but they are in Oregon. I'm an AFF-I that weighs over 220 with my gear on. The suit they built me allows me to stay with every student so far including the little 110 pounders. Everyone knows students fall slow anyway. Sometimes I sware that those little girls with their de-arched position could land without a chute and be ok!
  2. Nope, and I don't think I would try it with a mesh slider either.
  3. I realize I'm not talking about a "modern" CRW Triathalon here... I used to own a Fury 210. It was a CRW canopy with the red lines and all. It was my only canopy for about 100 jumps. I know it was F-111 and all, and I definetly learned to roll the nose and clover leaf the slider. My point is, I always took it to terminal and never hurt myself or the canopy.
  4. I thought the BSRs on age were for students? My question was for a licensed skydiver.
  5. Got any comparison pics with your head in it (FreezR) and your head in an Oxygen or Factory Diver? Hard to tell from the pics I've seen on line how big this helmet is. Maybe you can just let us know. Big as a motorcycle helmet, or about the same as other skydiving specific models?
  6. So, I'm reading a post on "comming of age" in skydiving and basically the guy is asking about a 16 year old going through training. I know most DZs here in the states won't allow it, but a poster from UK says they have plenty there. Question is this. Would USPA honor a foreign license for someone under 18. I suppose it comes down to the DZO and the plane insurers. Anyone have thoughts on this from the owners side. I know there's nothing illegal about it.

    Vigil AAD

Seems like it already has if you ask me. Initially they were advertising this unit at around $800 US. Now it's selling for what 11 or 12 hundred. Same Same for Cypress. It doesn't have a usefull life limit..... yet. Also costs less per year to maintain so it's got that going for it, but price has definetly gone up from what they initially claimed they would be able to sell them for.
  8. I was supposed to tell AggieDave what kind we're using at Elsinore, but they are exactly what you are talking about. Feed in the video and audio from the camera through the mixing board and hit record. Cool part is, if you have an AFF customer you can continue to put their jumps on the same DVD with menus for each level. I don't remember what kind we bought though.
  9. This was too good to pass up So who's the biggest? Better yet... who's the smallest? Can't wait to bring that up at the 0800 meeting tomorrow morning.
  10. Not exactly this thread, but if Iwere looking to jump somewhere near Nashville during the Christmas Holidays... where should I go? Or which DZ should I send my family members to.
  11. That's just market economics... deal with it. If you are that much better and so is your product than people will be willing to pay. If someone does it as a hobby, there product is just as good (or even satisfactory to those using it) than they get the work for less money. No skydiver should feel obligated to charge just to be "fair" to those trying to make a living at it. If the sport doesn't support all the people trying to do it full time.. well it doesn't that's just too bad. Nothing keeps someone from investing their own money and starting their own school and video program, and nothing keeps someone from not charging for doing the same. The fact is that when video counts I'll pay. I'm getting a known quality product and I'll have the commitment from the start. With money changing hands there is an additional feeling of responsibility for high quality from both parties. Just like charging for basic coach jumps all the time hurts the sport, so does charging for simply satisfactory video services. If I've got a friend and want to give him back the dough that I made from the AFF jump I took him on then I'm going to do it. If I've got a friend and they are doing student solos and I through in a coach jump on my own dime... so what? END RANT If the services that you provide are superior then you can charge whatever you want. Just ask those that employ the likes of Norman Kent and Tom Sanders... I bet they wouldn't dream of hiring the average joe freebie camera guy.
  12. Depends on the girl you grope if you will get a hand slap or a face slap I guess
  13. Easy to paint, not so easy to get the perfect results you see on your brand spankin new helmet. If you enjoy doing stuff for yourself, then do it. Express yourself. You need to get some very fine grit wet/dry sand paper and scuff it up a bit before you spray on that new color. Wash it up after that and then let it dry in a relatively dust free spot for a day. Do thin coats and apply many of them (at least 20 min in between coats). Make sure it's not too humid. Use a clear coat once your done to make it last.

    Vigil AAD

Sorry even 8 X 7000 jumps isn't as much real world proof as cypress has garnered in the last almost 12 years. I think the teams that are using this thing just might be sponsored. that means that they aren't paying for it. Like I said guys, I trust it for me.. not necessarily for my wife yet. I'm on the boat with competition and I don't think it's some sort of purchaser guinee (how do you spell that) program. I like having my AAD, but I jumped for a long time without one. Now I have more experience, and even less need for one than I did with my A license and 20 jumps. I like having it though. one more time for those that misunderstood. I wanted a vigil. I think it's just as good as the cypress, but less expensive and doesn't have a life limit. Technology only gets better. But if I have to choose between what has been tried and tested for 12 years and what is brand new (which I will, I have a rig, and my wife has a rig). I'll give her the one with more time to have proved itself.

    Vigil AAD

Too late. Just bought a used Cypress 1 for my wifey. She can jump it until it runs out of life in about 2 years. I would have bought the vigil had it been more available. I was in the market for an AAD for myself 6 months ago. Ended up buying a new Cypress 2 even though I wanted the Vigil. Wanted to buy a vigil and give the little woman my Cypress 2. Couldn't get it so I bought the Cypress and will do the switch or give her the Vigil after it runs out of life. Just for the record... I am willing to use the Vigil in it's current form without any amount of time in real world proof that it works. I'm not willing to risk my wife. I spent 5 years jumping without an AAD she will NEVER jump without one if I have anything to do about it.

    Vigil AAD

Hey Kim what's the scoop. Square One is listed as an authorized dealer, but they aren't advertising the Vigil on their web site. Are the dealers waiting until they actually have some units in stock based on some sort of deal with you all? Maybe DiabloPilot will speak up.
  17. That's the point. My ABSOLUTE limit is the one I would use for working. My fun limit is less. I wouldn't bust the absolute limit for a few extra bucs. ..... How much is a few extra bucks?
  18. Any luck getting info? I took a look at the proficiency card on line last night. It's a little confusing really. "To be performed at the course" Stop a spinning student, role a student over from their back, deploy for a student. "On evaluation jumps satisfactorily perform as" Main side cat C, Reserve Side Cat C, Single JM cat D. Interesting that the card doesn't specifically spell out that stop the spin etc need to be done on "evaluation dives", just "at the course". I think it's open to interpretation b/c of the way the courses can be designed. 8 days with practice days, several weekends etc. If those skills need only to be performed during practice days and then you still don't have to do it when the rating is on the line, then I think it's wrong and needs to be fixed. At my course they had to be pefromed on eval dives. (so I don't suck
  19. Why a minimum years in the sport? I'll agree with you that seasoning means something, and the best instructors are those that have actually worked in an area for a while. With this particular sport though... I think the necessary skill set can be learned, and perhaps someone who goes from FJC to AFF-I in one year or even 6 months may be a better instructor than the guy who gets his rating at 3 years and meets the min FF time and jump numbers. Think about it. Hour of tunnel time... breeze through AFF (as a student). More jumping your butt off learning and tunnel time and in 6 months you go to AFF-I course. Why should it take you 3 years to do it if you work so hard that you are ready in 6 months? We make 19 year old Marines responsible for 3 other lives all the time. With proper training why couldn't an 18 year old skydiver be ready for the responsiblity of one other life?
  20. Tend to disagree with you Dave. Where you jump has high standards and a great DZO. Not necessarily true across the board for smaller DZs. Other hand.... you could argue that smaller DZs have more family atmosphere watch out for each other = want safer instructors. Large DZs can have their pick of instructors, and you see full time instructors at the largest of DZs. That is the argument for better instructors at those DZs. Much like larger universities can afford to pay for more PHDs and the assumption is that B/C they have a higher degree of education they are better teachers.. same assumption for DZs. Those that can pay the most get the most competition for the jobs and therefore can pick better instructors. Although occasionally you just get that right mix where a smaller DZ has one of the best instructors in the world. (is that what you are trying to say about you and your relationship to SDA
  21. You think Shark's pic is scary???? You should be in the sky with him!
