Looks like a berreta to me. Where do you see the taurus? I was looking at the ambidextrous (sp) safety not really a safety, but decocking lever. Slide release is on the correct side. Slide and barrel configuration matches a berreta as well.

If money was no object what would you do with 1 million dollars?
rjf98 replied to Kiki's topic in The Bonfire
Damn I was late. Two chicks at the same time man.. that's what I'd do. You really think you could do that. Yeah, the kind of chicks I'm talking about would do me at the same time for a million dollars. Office Space... Damn Funny -
It's not the money thing to me. I KNOW how to PLF. My philosophy has and will continue to be what is over my head is a known. What is on my back is an unknown. Sorry, to all the riggers out there, but I trust myself more than I trust you. Even if I was a rigger and packing my own reserve, I'd still trust what I can see rather than what I can't. If I can keep it flying straight and know I have the room for a straight in landing (upwind, downwind, xwind doesn't matter to me).. I'm landing what I got. Now, if it keeps deterioriating then when I hit my hard deck (1800) I'm gonna have to let it go like I have in the past.

Will you land off with your jump buddies
rjf98 replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I tend to follow. I have in the past. Funny story follows. Collegiates 1999-2000. Sitting around BSing before the next round. A car pulls up to Marana, and who steps out... an Air Force Cadet with rig!!! Being the new officer that I was at the time (and an Aggie of course) I couldn't help but start harrassing them about leaving a buddy behind and what great teamwork they must be teaching at the academy etc etc. Of course, the prior enlisted in me just knew that the enlisted coaching staff would raise all kinds of hell... and you can bet they did It was damn funny. Besides, they spanked us, I had to get my digs in somehow. -

Way cool. I wonder how it matches up to flash type memory though? Size vs storage capacity and speed of access.

AHHH Come on! Let me do his level 8. You know all the students are calling me the reaper. I need to change my nickname and everything. I mean my jumpsuit for AFF is already black and grey. I can just put the reaper on a patch and a sticker. That's it Shark. Make me one of those specialized Elsinore stickers with a reaper Funny just remembered my phone rings with "Don't fear the reaper" LMAO right now

Rich yells obsenities and throws rocks at Paul.

Nice rig. Kinda Ironic that the 4 leaf clover is on the cutaway handle though Now putting that on the reserve would be another story.

The evidence as posted from another thread. 1. SkyLord has indeed not done well on a jump with me as a jumpmaster (although he calls himself "SkyLord"). 2. I have never initiated confrontation with the old SkyLord, such as calling him SkyLass, SkyLady, or Skysurf (and I don't mean with a board... I mean midevil style) 3. Skylord decided to start talking smack after he had the strange vertigo experience in Hawaii. 4. Skylord only talks smack via the web. (He probably takes medication before going in public) 5. SkyLord decided not to show up this weekend to lay down the forementioned "Smackdown" as he brazenly told everyone he would in another thread. 6. SkyLord now only will visit the DZ on weekdays. 7. SkyLord is running away out of the country to HongKong not to return until I actually leave for TX. (So it could be that he has come to his senses and now realizes he can't back down from his impossible position)

Took the point and paid my fine. Might have been cheaper and options, but what the hell, I'm leaving this state and didn't want to deal with it. Since it is my only point it won't cause insurance to go up. Fine was only 179. Judge told me that if I had been going 101 he would most likely have taken the license for most, but would have given my military service some thought. He was actually a pretty nice guy. When things first started I was happy to not hear my name in the first 15 folks. I wanted time to assess the judge and figure out if I should pleady guilty, or request a court date and plead not guilty. Funny thing was how much this was like me running NJP proceedings against Marines... just WAY more people here. He was VERY efficient and had some funny comments to those asking for an extension who had already had over 10 months of them in one case. After being called. I presented myself at the defendents table (more like 6 and centered at parade rest like a good Marine.. at least I didn't come to attention

Arghhhh...I almost forgot!!! It's Skyyhi's Birthday today!!!!

First: Happy Birthday to Darcy!!!!!!! -
found it lummy. Thanks. Don't think I'll go with this defense. When I go in on Monday to request a court date I'm going to see if they'll let me plea bargain to keep it out of the court and not clog up the system any more than it already is. I'm a safe enough driver that one ticket isn't going to hurt me in the long run.

Sponsorship Questions and General Manufacturer discussion
rjf98 replied to aubsmell's topic in Gear and Rigging
Lisa: Thanks for letting us disagree. I think that a manufacture would approach you to be sponsored says volumes about your dedication to the sport and the amount of people you are able to reach. I don't think it really matters to a manufacturer if someone is going to be in the sport for 10 years or 2 years when they decide to sponsor. What is important are the following questions: How many times is this person going to be in a published photo? How many competitions are people going to see this person compete in (and place in)? What are my sales numbers going to do when other jumpers and non jumpers see this person jumping my gear? We've got some world class skateboard guy that jumps in Elsinore. Can't remember his name, which might not help my point here but... Say he only has 500 jumps. His fan base however because of what else he does is through the roof. If he can bring a product to the forefront through the other fan base then I'd sponsor him. Question is... how far is he willing to go to bring his fan base into skydiving, and can they afford it? Kids buying T-shirts and sunglasses are one thing. Convincing 18 year olds to skydive and make the kind of investment necessary to continue skydiving is another. Lady, you are the kind of person I would do business with on a daily basis. Integrity, knowledge, genuine care for the customer and the manufacturer. Aubs: As the ASIP program sits, I applaud it. I really do think that you are on the right track, and I agree that you have some checks and balances that help keep an instructors integrity when it comes to advising on gear sales, especially the requirement for the patch. You are breaking new ground and I really hope your sales respond to it. Email on the way. -
Tried to PM Kallend being that he is Mr Physics, but he isn't accepting. Here is what I'm attempting to prove. My car's ECU reads MPH based on a standard wheel diameter of 15". If I have a 17" wheel diameter how fast will my car be going if the speedo is reading 90? Something along the lines of 1 mile / circumfrence = Revolutions per mile revolutions per mile / miles per hour = revolutions per hour/ 60 = revs per min So if the circumfrence is changed it should mean that my speedo reads slower than I am actually going yes? So question 1: Is my formula correct? If yes... GREAT! if no.... What do I need to correct?

This thought occurs to me about our dependence on foreign oil...
rjf98 replied to peacefuljeffrey's topic in The Bonfire
I'm no pattent attorney, but pattents run out. Especially if they aren't used. IF the technology was really that accessible then why hasn't someone brought it to the market? We have what? 100,000 active skydivers. Bill Booth's patent on 3 rings was used ASAP once someone else could. You can bet the skyhook will be the same way. There definetly isn't as much money to be made here as there is in a car that gets 80 miles to the gallon. I think we are just starting to see the technology in a usable form. Does anyone really think GM cares if Mobile Oil goes under? I don't. Isn't that kind of like arguing that Oscar myer cares if electricity, propane, or charcoal is used to cook their hotdogs? Especially when states like CA are implimenting programs requiring multi fuel and low emission vehicles GM wants to grab the market share RIGHT NOW. The reason these vehicles haven't been massed produced is because the technology couldn't provide what the consumer wants. Not very many people want a vehicle they have to plug in every night that can't go 65 and can only travel for 100 miles before it needs to be re-charged for 8 hours. No one wants propane because it's a pain in the ass to go and fill up your tank. What we are seeing now is electric gas hybrids that don't cause the consumer to change their habits and provide all the creature comforts and performance of pure gasoline vehicles. That is the technology being far enough advanced to cause a change. A few more years and it will be in a place where it's not more expensive for the initial investment and MANY more people will buy them. I like new toys, and I'm looking at them now. I DO think in our lifetime that we will see a drastic reduction in US dependence on Foreign oil. I do think it will cause the oil prices to drop to ridiculous low levels due to our consumption and yes, we will be blamed and end up spending trillions to help transform oil dependent economies. -
Sponsorship Questions and General Manufacturer discussion
rjf98 replied to aubsmell's topic in Gear and Rigging
Name another sport where those heavily involved in the actuall selling to end users get the full sponsorship? This is NOT a personal attack, this is me asking a question. From what I see NO professional sports stars sell a damn thing retail. They are the best at what they do so they must be using the best equipment... that's why I want it. I know of more than one jumper who has used that type of analogy in the type of container he is buying. I would think it works better for jumpsuit, but here is the quote. "I see airspeed jumping javelins and the knights too, I want what the best are using, they must be using it for a reason" Like I said, I think that would be closer to the truth for a jumpsuit, but it's not my line of thinking it's his. This smacks of entitlement. I again don't want this to be a personal attack, but just because you choose to make an investment in the sport doesn't mean it HAS to give back to you. Sometimes, those that don't invest as much are just better, or more lucky and they get the sponsorship. I don't think sponsorhips should really exist for a dealer. They can already get the stuff at a discount. They will sell what they see as the best product for them to sell (read what brings the best profit margin) that is the capitalist system at its best. Note that in an earlier post I had some reservations about instructors being sponsored. While I like the idea, I just think students need to understand that up front. It does harm the objective view of an instructor if he or she is sponsored. Precisely why I have a small problem with these people being sponsored. How can their opinion be considered objective if they are sponsored. Professional competitors have no duty to be objective to those not in the know. We disagree on altruistic. I can't imagine any company giving something away for less than full price without getting something in return. WHO CARES? It's ALL about R&D and advertising. Completely agree. NOTHING is free in this world, you pay for it one way or another. Either you are going to work for that company as a sponsored jumper or you are going to pay your money like the rest of us. I think Kelly does an outstanding business and far be it from me to question his methods. I think if I knew you were a sponsored athlete for me and weren't recommending my gear I'd want an explination. That being said. Kelly more or less has "sponsored" me. My rig was burned up in the fire. He replaced it for free. While I had already made my determination for a new infinity, I do feel like I owe Kelly some advertising and good word. He's earned it from me and will continue to get it. Great product, great customer service, great options, great price! Thanks again Kelly I'll always be in your debt for what you did. Finally. Again Lisa I didn't want this to be an attack thread, just my observations and points in contrast to your own. I am REALLY hoping that you didn't take it that way. Aubs: Hope I really didn't hijack this thread. Still lovin' this thread... good stuff here. -
FunBobby the LCDR got it right on the money. When I was at TBS they told us me I couldn't jump so I went to see the CO. After learning that I wasn't a student and had been jumping for over a year he signed off and gave me the ok. MOST officers will make an informed decision based on the facts. While on the MEU I couldn't jump. After getting a no from the BLT commander I decided it wasn't worth going higher for possibly 3 days of jumping on a 6 month cruise. Bottom line is you can keep taking it up the chain if you want, but you may piss some people off further down the line, and this school will determine the next few years of your life so it might not be worth it.

REAL CLOSE!!! I love Elsinore and it will always have a special place in my heart, but I'm definetly ready to go home for a while.

Yes, but as fast as I as going this isn't a speeding ticket, it's a misdemeanor traffic violation that will probably go down as "reckless driving"
