  1. More details to follow y'all. 4 Way meet with 4 rounds. Old folks vs the kids. Plaques or medals for 1st - 3rd plus a perrinial trophy with the winners names engraved to stay at Skydive Aggieland. Spoke with the new A&M skydive club president Kyle this past weekend and the date for the event will be the first weekend in June. That's the 5th (Saturday) and the 6th (Sunday for a rain day). Only other details I can tell you right now is that you need to have your team together and your fee will cover video, but not your slots. I'm sure we'll have beer if not beer and food. This meet will raise money for the club to send them to collegiates this year, as well as training money. Old Folks will be those over 30ish, maybe pushing it to 35 depending on the number of teams and ages etc. Show up and jump the beech! More details as they become available. Sorry I didn't get this posted yesterday Kyle. Rich

Road trip is over. I'll post pics soon. Weather sucks at Aggieland. Maybe a H&P if we're lucky.

    ROAD TRIP

What's the weather supposed to be like this weekend?
  4. Phree: I have only heard "I know someone who knows the person this happened to" on ths misfire. Do you think it is possible that these are the same incident? Can you come up with anymore information? Can the DZO or the S&TA from the DZ comment or write a letter stating the particulars from the case? I'm not a Vigil appologist by any means, I just want to know solid facts about the misfire, and I know someone who knows the guy this happend to isn't fact.
  5. Ron: I know your feelings on new products, but I have to correct one of the problems you pointed out with the vigil. The missfire in a jump was not at 3000 feet. The unit records jump information and here is what was explained by Vigil on that incident. My emphasis added Again Ron, I'm not arguing about buying a new product before it has 2 years in the sport of real world testing.. these problems, while easily explained are the exact kind of thing you refuse to deal with if you can help it. I chose to buy a Vigil, and while I'm unhappy I have to send it in, I feel like they are doing the right thing, the only thing more I think they should do is pay for the repack and the shipping.

    ROAD TRIP

Update: Today I am in Elkhorn NE. I'm staying with my aunt and uncle for a few days. I'll work on the photos and try to get some published. There's a pretty funny one of me trying to use the countdown on my camera to take a photo of myself at the NE state line. Basically it's me running to the sign, but it's a good shot of my rig
  7. Not really to Dave, just a general reply. I have not had any problems with mine.... so far. Of course I only have about 8 jumps on it My only issue has been a lack of response to questions about issues. Of course Airtec is no better. Take a look around this forum about issues regarding the cypress II. My rigger thought the unit was easy to install and had no problems with the instruction book. Dave, you and the guys at SDA can take a look at mine in a few days. Rich

    ROAD TRIP

Ok folks so here's the update. First pick is me entering Utah!. It was supposed to be a picture of me in my rig in front of the sign. I pulled up to the sign and found another group doing the same thing. I offered to take theirs and them to take mine. I succeeded, the other woman didn't take the pic... even after explicit instructions and a demo. So it's just the sign. The next four are just some shots of Utah. Pretty country, wish I could have gone to SD MOAB, but I think they are only open on weekends and by appointment. Next shot is of the Navajo woman I bought a gift for Gin from. Then of course the Colorodo sign. Within 10 min I (along with 3 other cars) passed a Colorado state trooper going the other direction at 80 - 85. We saw him put on the breaks and hit the median. I pulled off at the next exit for gas. Other two kept going. I'm cool, no ticket, not sure about the other two. Final shot is a town sign here in Colorado.. cool name! As I got out of Vail and descended into Denver I thought I was going to die. It was like some kind of HUGE SNOWSTORM. Vehicles were sliding everywhere, and the top on my convertible was still down!!!. From there to where I am now should have taken no more than 40 min. It took almost 3 hours, and I was close to flying off of the road a couple of times. I am now at the holiday in express just outisde of Denver on I-76. Tomorrow I have between 400 - 500 miles until I get to Elkhorn NE and my relatives. I'll keep you updated. Scratch that. I'm having software problems right now. I'll try again in the morning. 9. As it stands now I usually only use a packer when I'm working. I actually lose money if I have to pack for myself. That being said. At 5 dollars the math is easy, and it's one bill. After that it actually feels like more money because it's a 5 plus something else (kinda like the only $.99 thing). Also, if the price jumps then I will make more money per jump on a tandem then I would on an AFF (instead of the same when I use a packer). AFF would be less apealing. 5 is what I'll pay. Anything more and I don't think so.
  10. I like choice #1. Damn! I was hoping whoever designed it would get a coupon I think if you went silver instead of white though the colors would look better longer. Silver top and bottom skin, blue diamonds and ribs, red stabalizers (just to be different and give myself a chance).
  11. You are correct. I thought at one time there were associated levels with the licenses (novice - expert). Am I wrong there?
  12. I've got to disagree with you about adding it to a license. Take a look at all the crap about D licenses requiring a night jump. I've heard plenty of people complain "Well, I'll never do a night jump, I just won't get out of the plane" Maybe, but the license says you are an expert, you can't be that without a night jump. I can hear it now. "I'll never jump an elipticle wing, why should I have to take the class?" Enforcement is another issue. I believe Ron has brought it up before (maybe I'm wrong so don't fly off the handle at me there guy). Is USPA set up to actually assist gear manufacturers so that they can do on the spot checks before sales? What about gear stores? Do we require DZ's to check that at the ramp or at manifest? Do we suspend a jumper who allows a new guy to borrow his gear to try it out because he's thinking about taking the test and suddenly because its a 149 and not a 150 he's out of his allowed wing limit? I don't think USPA really has the teeth to do any of this. I think a BSR is in order, I don't think it's going to solve all of our problems like some here do.
  13. Good for you Lew. I hope it works out.
  14. Now THAT could be scary. A bunch of DZ.commers from Elsinore with 8 or so hours to blow in Vegas.
  15. Don't want this to turn into a talkback thread, but.... NEVER MIND!!! COOL new swoop pond guys.
  16. Very cool. I checked one of those out at the DZ this past weekend. I thought it was very well put together and much RD went into the design. Talonesque on the main closing pin, and much like the infinity on the main riser protection. Although I prefer the infintiy design on that. The 3 ring system is different looking that's for sure. Wonder if Aubrey will wonder over to this thread and throw down some stats on pull force diffrences in a one G environment. All that is ridiculous anyway. Congrats on the pretty new rig. Enjoy the hell out of it and jump your butt off!
  17. How odd can it be nightingale It's from Home depot?? What kind of room are you building
  18. See you guys on Sat the 10th. Since I'm traveling solo now I'll spend 2 days with my relatives in NE and leave early Friday morning.
  19. Can some greenie simply put together all of the threads on this and put it into a sticky at the top? Not bagging on you guy... it's just that every week this comes up. Do a search and you'll find lots.
  20. No applogies needed. I swore up and down I wouldn't get my tandem rating, but then it came down to it, and I realized that I would have the time to do this thing full time for a couple of months and decided that in order for my transition to the dark side to be complete I needed a tandem rating. What are you gonna do? It's fun, not as much as turning points and doing 4 way, but it's still fun. My fun jumps lately have been in the tunnel working on 4 way with my coachie (Erin rocks!!)
  21. Now ACME, I know we haven't met, but I do know some people that have met YOU. I'm chuckling pretty hard right now at the thought of a pretty little girl with that big ass ugly helmet. Rick Morranis in Space Balls comes to mind As far as telling the student he was my first... Nope, but everyone around was making faces behind his back and asking with no words and only lip motions. Also had another students relative swear that I had taken them on a tandem 2 months ago!
  22. Gotta try that this weekend!!! I've been doing altitude H&Ps with a friend and that move while in front will freak her out
  23. Originally posted this in safety and training, but thought it belonged here more. already purchased This is a photo (poor quality from camera phone) of my first paying tandem customer last week. Also one with Robyn Killian who helped me get my rating. Unfortunately the bonehad helmet is gone from last weekends jumping. The stupid thing came unsapped in FF and I lost it as well as my new Neptune. That was one EXPENSIVE tandem. Rich
  24. WE GOOSE (shark). We are getting our rigs assembled. Gawd I hate it when he does that
  25. Except sometimes you want to chat with other skydivers. Don't know the answer here, just a counter point.
