  2. Hey Jim, those capewells and ripcords bring back a few good memories. Had three cutaways over twenty year span. All happened after getting rigs with 3 ring releases. Tony Tony Brogdon D-12855
  3. How many remember jumping the TV program "Riptide"'s helicopter nicknamed the Screaming Mimi at Perris for several weekends at Perris when the Otter was down for maintenance in 1985? It was like riding an elevator. On one load though, one of the turbine belts broke and we bailed out over Sun City at 10 grand. Tony Brogdon D-12855
  4. The Haskell brothers, leased Skylark Airport from the Indian doctors from 1985 until Gary Douis, Skip Evans and I formed a plan to reopen the Airport to Skydiving in January 1990. We subleased from the Haskel brothers for one year then leased directly from the Indian doctors. Since the Airport was in a US Army Corp of Engineer Flood Plain and since the City was developing a Master Development Plan for the area we appled for a Conditional Use Permit and meanwhile we formed Cy Perkins Parachute Club. Two years later our CUP was approved. After getting approval for the CUP we formed Skydive California, Inc. Within a year, the Airport flooded. I managed to keep a small taxiway open as a tempory runway which allowed Larry Perkins to maintain his 40 year old aircraft maintenance business open. A year later I got help from the City to repair some of the flood damage and with Curly Annis help open another temporary runway which allowed us to cosponsor a 2nd Octoberfest Air Show whic allowed us to begin operation again. We subleased to Jim Omera to run the Skydiving operation. Jim passed on his sublease to Larry Hill and Ivan Henery. They passed on the lease to the current Skydive Elsinore. Gary, Skip and I allowed that to happen on the condition that we be removed from the Airport lease and they lease the Airport as well. We had remained behind the scenes only until we felt the Airport was in stable enough hands operation wise to be permenant. Tony Brogdon D-12855

  9. here's a picture of one of three Hang Dives made over the Perris DZ. I am the third back from the cockpit on the wing. We began decending and climbing out at 11500 and ran off at about 5 grand. We landed just before Scott Raod off 215. This picture is hanging in the Perris' Bar's Restaurant. Tony Brogdon D-12855
  10. John Steve Mack and me were on the Scream'n Mimi when it broke a rotar belt on the main rotar at 11 grand over Sun City. Our alitmeters showed us dropping like a rock so all 16 of us looked at each other for a couple of seconds and we all bailed out in a flash. That was a scary jump. I will never forget how great it looked the first time it arrived at the Perris DZ with Ralph Greer in the right seat. Tony Brogdon D-12855

  15. Sorry it has taken so much time to respond on this one. You are right about the hotel on the beach in Enseneda. It was after the one first descibed above. The one one you mentioned we helped open the Baja Country Club south of Enseneda then made two jumps on the beach of the Baja Beach and Tennis Club (same owners), the second being at sunet. That was an exciting time jumping onto the pennsula. Tony Brogdon D-12855

  18. Hey Mike, I think I have a few tucked back in my brain somewhere. I can't help but laugh thinking about you and Bud Krueger trying to outdo each other in the back seat of my car on the way back from Ensenada when we were setting up the demo into the Baja Country Club. You guys had me in tears I was laughing so hard. Now that was a good DC-3 memory, over the Baja Beach Club, at sunset and on my birthday. As the beer commercial say" it doesn't get better than that." Say hi to Rich for me. Tony Brogdon D-12855

  23. Grettings Nick One of the earlist skydivers I know personally is Smitty the Jumper who started jumping in 1922 with a parachute he built not having seen another. I brought him to Perris Valley on December 15th, 1985 as a memeber of Perris Valley Skydiving Society's Board of Directors. He brought his original rig with him. He was 87 years old at the time and made a tandem with the Coors Team. You possibly got to meet him. I posted a tribute to Smitty earlier on this forum. I met him in Hutchinson, Kansas in September 1977 on the day I made my first jump. We became friends then. He made his last jump over 90 years old. Blue skies! Tony Brogdon D-12855
