  1. Looking at the gear and the color coded jumpsuits, here’s my guess. I'm thinking it is a photo from a Guy Manos organized jump done for the Norm Kent movie "From Wings Came Flight". Probably taken over the Florida Keys. Or I'm completely wrong and have the wrong hemisphere!
  2. Some parts of the bill are an exact copy of the similar Nevada law (although in Nevada, there is no administrative enforcement mechanism, and there is no licensing requirement). The outdated verbiage (i.e. "jumpmaster") is in both the Nevada law and this Indiana bill. Does anyone know about a fatality in the last few years in Indiana? Especially a student or low experienced newbie jumper? Even a serious injury to a student/newbie could be a factor. There have been cases over the years of distraught family members going to their state representative and trying to get some laws governing skydiving enacted. There was an issue like this 15 to 20 years ago in the Northeast USA, I think in Massachusetts.
  3. Paratroopers like Dick Winters jumped, fought and many died, to protect our gift of freedom to choose our own course in life. Later, many of these men were the early seeds that started to grow into modern skydiving. They are not part of us, we are part of them. They have earned every right to be remembered here! Blue Skies Dick! And thank you to all the men in all the early Allied Airborne units.
  4. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2011/01/its-a-bird-its-a-plane-no-its-parachute-jumpers-lighting-up-the-nighttime-sky-at-lake-elsinore.html It's a bird! It's a plane! No, it's parachute jumpers lighting up the nighttime sky at Lake Elsinore January 7, 2011 | 9:27 am Skydivers taking a nighttime jump over Lake Elsinore prompted nearby residents to call authorities about fireballs falling from the sky, authorities said Friday. Emergency dispatchers were “inundated with calls” Thursday night, reporting something in the sky around the lake area, said Cheri Patterson, spokeswoman with the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department. “There were varying reports of what people thought they were seeing and an increased number of 911 calls,” she said. It turned out to be skydivers making their jumps while holding flares, said Melissa Nieburger, a spokeswoman with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. Sheriff's deputies heard the skydivers were members of the U.S. Army Parachute Team, more commonly known as the Golden Knights, she said.
  5. Putting ten pounds of shit in a five pound bag.
  6. In a recent survey, 9 out of 10 men who have tried Camels ......... prefer Women! I’m trying to remember. Do camels have hoofs or toes?
  7. The so called news report stated that the gas was accidently dispersed from a malfunctioning US Air Force KC-767 tanker/sprayer taking off from Little Rock Air Force Base. The only problem is that the USAF doesn’t have any KC-767’s. I call shenanigans!
  8. First of all, congratulations Pat! Second of all, shame on the rest of us. We must be losing it for not calling Pat on this! Look at the subject line of this thread- ….my 1st 50 Years….. as in FIRST 50 years, as in FIRST, as in Case of Beer!!!!! = 24 Of course, in this situation I think it is we who need to buy you a case! Thanks for all you've done Pat!
  9. Mark didn't fly the Argosy. My wife used to fly with him in the Lockheed Electra L-188. He was at our wedding in 1996 and we were at his memorial service near Willow Run Airport in 1997.
  10. Years ago my wife used to fly for Zantop, an all cargo airline based at Willow Run Airport, near Detroit, Michigan. Although she never flew one, they had some when she was there. There is still even one on static display at the Yankee Air Museum on the airport.
  11. It's an Armstrong Whitworth Argosy 650 with the propellers removed from the Rolls Royce Dart turboprop engines.
  12. Because they are a bunch of dumb Fuckers!
  13. So his walking on water thing failed? Yeah, it failed miserably. I guess he was reaching up for help or something. And what really pissed me off was that I heard he had turned the water into wine. Stuff tasted terrible, like fish had shit in it or something!!!
  14. Here’s my mug shot. Can you tell which one is me?
  15. I'm not trying to verify the accuracy of the news reports because the media normally screws everything up regarding aviation incidents. But the idea of a co-pilot not being able to get the aircraft out of a dive is just beyond me. That goes back to Flying 101. However, based on the scenario of the captain leaving the cockpit, the co-pilot moving his seat forward is actually quite normal. What happens is this, once the aircraft reaches cruising altitude the workload in the cockpit drops dramatically. RVSM rules require the aircraft to be flown by the autopilot around the 30,000ft and up range. Once at cruise altitude the pilots generally just monitor navigation and aircraft systems as well as making and responding to routine radio communication. Crew seats are normally moved all the way back for comfort and extra leg room at cruise altitude. Your feet will still normally be able to reach the rudder pedals for control if necessary and you don’t need to reach the toe brakes at cruise altitude. But when one pilot leaves the cockpit, the other one will normally move his or her seat forward, just to be diligent and to be in a position of complete control. And depending on the aircrafts altitude, the remaining pilot is required to put on their oxygen mask. So while moving his seat forward the co-pilot could have hit a button that disconnects the autopilot. Or he bumped the control yoke with enough force to disconnect the autopilot. But this simple disconnect shouldn’t have caused such a rapid descent. The co-pilot screwed up bad. The problem here is probably a cultural one that exists in the Indian/Asian mentality about the Captain being god-like and co-pilots never being allowed to think for themselves. But that’s a whole different topic. And for those of you who suddenly think that terrorists who read this article will now be able to get the cockpit door open from the outside, just calm down and change your underwear. There is a lot more involved with getting into the cockpit of an airliner than you will ever know. And nothing stated in these news articles will help a bad guy gain access.
  16. Here are a couple of photos of 95N I took at Oshkosh in 2007. It was hard to beleive it was the same aircraft. The owner had done a beautiful job on the restoration!
  17. I thought your kid would have her fingers in her ears! Well, I learn something new every day!
  18. OK Howard, it's been long enough. So where did this come from?
  19. Sounds like you need to go see your dentist Jim!
  20. I'm so sorry to hear about your little guys problems Wendy. Lots of vibes for him and you from me and my four dogs!!!!
  21. You calling me old, Billy? It's a typo. He meant to say- when you were younger!
  22. Wendy, Was the invisible plane painted in Air New Zealand colors? That would explain everything! The truth is out there (at Walmart).
  23. It was an airplane. See my post in the other thread- http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=3991978;page=1;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25;#3992271
  24. This is actually pretty simple to figure out. We are seeing a three dimensional event in two dimensions. As a pilot I can tell that it’s an airplane putting out a contrail for a hundred plus miles. The flattening out way behind is caused by the upper winds over time. The flash of flame is the reflection of the sun, which seems to be at a low angle, off the aircraft. This is just a typical case of media manipulation. The stations helicopter got some unusual looking footage. Someone there was either very stupid or very smart. I vote for deviously smart. CBS gets some “expert” to say that they don’t know what it is. Then they go to a military spokesperson. Now they know a military press spokesman isn’t going to immediately say yes or no to it being a missile. They are going to say that they are looking into it. Now you have two sources saying that they don’t know what it is, one of them being the military who say they don’t know if it was a missile or not! Now you use peoples fears to imply a conspiracy story by simply stating that that no one, including the military, knows if this was a missile launch or not. The story spreads around the world, along with the stations film, which now makes them a ton of money. And the bottom line is that in this day and age, the news media is now the news business. It’s not about the truth, it’s about the money. Is everyone enjoying their Kool-Aid?
