  1. hey clint, i was under the impression that real tv pay like $150. for footage. you will make more than that if you sell 30 copies of your own dvd at $30. per dvd. I would buy one from you. Oke The ground always, remembers where you are!
  2. altitude awareness and the development of your mental clock. another thing I stress to newbies doing solos, altitude awareness over the ground, knowing where you are above the dz. pulling at 3k sucks if you need to be at 4k to make it back to the dz. be a successful canopy pilot it will save your life. stay safe, Jimoke The ground always, remembers where you are!
  3. july 96 I was schedualed to make my first tandem jump. 4 days before jumping I had a work related injury, I took a spike in my hand /wrist. it hurt like hell and I almost backed out of jumping. I bought a small brace and wrapped it like a linebacker. it still was very painful until the door opened, when I landed I had no clue until I high 5' d my buddy. never have been called a genius! adrenaline is a wonderful drug. I haven't stopped jumping since then. stay safe, Jimoke The ground always, remembers where you are!
  4. I cover it in my briefing not to touch my hands because it does happen. I also let them know that I can touch their hands for correct arm/hand position. I let them know I need to operate the parachute. I never ever talk about (us) going in, or any thing negative like that. bill booth lets the student know about that in the video. I do let them know that if they do grab my hand they will experience an unpleasant sensation from my free hand. jokingly serious, they all get my drift. for the students who have attempted to grab my hands, it is a simple twisting manuvere to free them. the real danger is if they got a grip on your elbow with both of their hands over their shoulder. I am also glad sigmas release from both sides. tandems are not just another skydive. stay safe, Jimoke The ground always, remembers where you are!
  5. 50 jumps/ canon vhs-c / upgraded 100 jumps/ sony trv 910 hi-8 / upgraded 700 jumps/ sony trv 7 mini dv / tape eject door broke due to excessive mistreatment..........fixed $269.00 US. from sony factory. still works fine as a backup or playdeck 800 jumps/ sony trv 11 mini dv / started pixelating and skipping and plain malfunctioning.......shut down on......... of course, a great, one of a kind skydive. still have it, never fixed it, I bought a new camera that day. 400+ jumps/ sony trv 27 mini dv / nice camera until sony makes a smaller 3 chip. I am tempted to get a vx 2000 but size and price are preventing me. I have always used my camera to edit with, so it has 10 times the useage as might be deemed "normal useage" all my sony's have stood up to endless slo-mo, rewind and fast forward. I have never had a problem with lanc, vid out, or firewire. never had a touch screen and never will. fat fingers can be a serious drawback. hope this helps with you database oke The ground always, remembers where you are!
  6. wow nice job! the site is easy and fast. data rates were fine with cable. the flying was awesome the editing incredible. If those are promos for guano where is the full length video? , I'm in for one. great site JimOke The ground always, remembers where you are!
  7. nice helmet dude, nice and clean for a side mount. I bet a 2" strip of gaffers tape will keep it closed. it seems the bungy is tight, but because the bungy is round it can roll off with riser contact. stay safe, Jimoke The ground always, remembers where you are!
  8. I think your only options are wrap it with gaffers tape or if your handy you can use fibreglass tape and bondo to wrap it up. but, I also agree with everyone else.....buy a new helmet, it's not worth jumping something so hazard prone. disclaimer, it looks just like my first helmet Stay as safe as you can, Jim Oke The ground always, remembers where you are!
  9. the bottom end sequence. practice it with another instructor or coach. not being there, you will fail. as far as role reversals, that is not that big of a deal with seasoned instructors. The ground always, remembers where you are!
  10. I bought my Sony gx7 at bestbuy and it was $699. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1087340385367&skuId=6726402&productCategoryId=pcmcat13900050019&type=product this is what I would buy today. I purchased it in may 04. jimoke The ground always, remembers where you are!
  11. I use a sony gx7.....I wish I had the sony gx4 which does all + and - formats. I burn RW+ I hope one format will eventually prevail. it takes about 2 min. to load the disc, and 2 min. to finalize after a 11min. tandem video. oke The ground always, remembers where you are!
  12. from my jumps about 12-13 . I just timed it at home and it shot 15 large jpeg mode. it shoots off about 8 images in the first 11 sec then it slows down to process. in a normal 14k tandem skydive I average about 22 freefall pics. I use a 512mb card, I am not sure if a bigger faster card would do it? hope this helps with your descision. you won't be disappointed with a digi rebel.......I'm not. Stay Safe Jim Oke The ground always, remembers where you are!
  13. I bought a digital rebel jul.7th made about 200 jumps with it almost 4000 shots.....I shoot sports mode and auto focus with great results. I upgraded from the film rebel to digi. best $999.00 + extras. with a HP printer I can print 2 8x10s in the time it takes to pack. I am able to present the photos to my tandem students 10 mins after landing. 80% purchase rate. as a tandem video guy it was a great move. 10d better 20d best as far as I know. jimoke The ground always, remembers where you are!
  14. your going to buy a 20d?.......when are you going to tiauna? The ground always, remembers where you are!
  15. exits are all about timing, the more you do the better you get. practice Stay Safe, oke The ground always, remembers where you are!
  16. there is never a chance I will steal anyones air. I am 3-4 feet horizontal from the student if I leave first I will be lower but still horizontal from the jumpers if I leave late I will be above them on the hill But, still horizontal. the trick is to not slide towards them, above or underneath them at any time during the exit. it is just far easier to see the count from a strut hang. than a door hang in my opinion and you are physically farther from the student and his feet kicking you on a ready,GO count. any interferance from a students poor count is the cameraguys problem....we only observe. but, I guess what ever works for ya. $0.02 stay safe, jimoke The ground always, remembers where you are!
  17. out of a 182 I like to climbout first, you have to climb way up and out on the strut and hang using your right foot for balance on the side of the step. once your out there ....hope that the jms and student have a nice climbout and timely exit. then leave in a sit/back, flop to your belly as they drift down the hill. when done properly you will not affect the students jump on a poor exit. (you also risk going low, quick.) as a camera man for students of any kind tandems included, you are there to observe, not become part of their skydive, that can get ugly. if you are not comfortable leaving in a sitting positon you can certainly leave poised from the hanging position, just use your left foot on the step and leave on your belly. it is definately up to the instructors where you leave from and how they load the plane, they are in charge of the jump. hanging can also suck if you have a hard time holding on to the strut......I have even had to climb back in from there for a go around or a balk. practice the exit with your friends first until your comfortable. stay safe, JimOke The ground always, remembers where you are!
  18. I can say as an aff instructor, after They pull, we track and pull usually by 3k 2000 feet or so lower than our student. I have a 1.8 wingloading, so the difference is hard to close to initiate dialog with my student. some insructors fly with a radio....its a great idea. although this was a coach jump? nobody has a radio? I guess once a person is under thier own parachute, reserve or otherwise, as of jump #1 they are truly on their own and must land their own parachute safely,on or off-field, as they were trained to do. going after gear is fine, AFTER it has landed! as long as you don't hose yourself while your chasing it. canopies cost a lot of money, at some dz's they are very easy to lose in a forest. so someone at least watching where it went is a plus. Stay Safe, Jim OKe The ground always, remembers where you are!
  19. I guess making a proper plf could be one indicator weather a person is really "fit" to be in the sport. students of all ages make poor landings, but a femur or pelvis could be a very serious injury to some older students. The ground always, remembers where you are!
  20. skydive hawaii or pacific skydivers. if you can get in the rotation you can easily log 150+ /month. it is a beautiful place to jump if you don't mind the strong winds......oh yeah, huge dz politics. but what else is new? oke The ground always, remembers where you are!
  21. time for a little story.......I was you.......I had to mount a vhs-c camera to my pro-tec helmet .....around 165 jumps. I knew what I was doing......I was a competant flyer......I was awesome (wasn't I ?).....after a few close calls and a lot of bad footage......mostly because not as good as I had hoped. around 350 jumps I was dialed in.......(wasn't I?). I could film some one upside down as they deployed their canopy.......wow I have arrived......now I really am good. flip onto my belly to pull wow the ground seems awfully close..... ok theres my main.......CA- Chink ....... wow my cypres does work......hey my reserve is orange....shit ......shit........shit.......What am I supposed to do with a side by side? oh no.........downplane.....cut away.....turned on final........landed fine. wow I must be good. I have about 2000 more camera jumps now, still trying to stay alive every time. adding a camera is a big thing, even a small camera. nobody here or anywhere can stop you from flying camera, don't let my story discourage you from jumping camera, just keep in mind you only have a couple jumps The ground always, remembers where you are!
  22. what is on your suit at that location? I am envisioning the junction of your wing to the suit, and this is where you tuck the wing behind the main lift web. something on your suit is rubbing causing wear? if you could post a close-up picture we might be able to help figure out a cure. The ground always, remembers where you are!
  23. Max Cohn....if you ever get the chance for coach jumps with him he is one of the best The ground always, remembers where you are!
  24. Ouragan suits are top of the line custom suits kinda like an Armani suit for an executive. Nancy and chris helped me design and build my one-of-a-kind wingsuit. thier use of new materials and quality of workmanship is incredible. they are pricey, but worth every dime. If you can think of a design that has never been seen, they can make it, and well. just my humble opinion. jimoke The ground always, remembers where you are!
