  1. Could I ask how much for both? and where did you purchase? I have been saving some $, almost ready to purchase. jimoke The ground always, remembers where you are!
  2. It's not a matter of full time staff being more "important" , but they should most definately have priority over the part timers. this is how they make a living, and most times it is a meager living at that. think about yourself making 40 hours a week, during a slow jumping week or a rainy week and show up on the weekend ready to take this mans work away. skydiving full time is not going to make you rich maybe you can eat, pay some bills, and buy some gear.....then your broke again The ground always, remembers where you are!
  3. some the older switches also came with a mono plug versus a stereo plug. you need a stereo plug. look at the part you plug into the camera, there should be two black stripes on it (stereo) if there is only one it is mono. another cameraflyer had a mono plug that I borrowed and it continually focused when the camera was turned on.....it did not shoot pics though until depressed. conceptus is very good with customer service. jimoke The ground always, remembers where you are!

  9. sore neck is one of the many pleasures to deal with jumping cameras. every year, once or twice bad opening hits hard. 800mg. ibuprofin, Ice, and rest. seems to be my recipe for healing. a ruptured disc seems serious......maybe more rest and better pack jobs is the prescription. I am thanking my wrestling coach for all the neck bridgeing. stay safe, jimoke The ground always, remembers where you are!
  10. ok heres a shot thats pretty cool The ground always, remembers where you are!
  11. i bought the rebel x about a year ago approx. 5000 shots no problems. so far I have only used the kit lens.....this year I will buy a canon 10-22. this is a great cam for me under all conditions, so far. I use sports mode auto focus for tandems. stay safe jimoke The ground always, remembers where you are!

  13. one thing is for sure......you will always land! it's the law. finding the correct height for your flare will determine how hard or soft you will land. practice this after you open and clear your airspace. flare 100 times if you have to.... forget spiraling down the good news is you did not freak out and turn low to get back into the wind........it is very important on your upcoming skydives that you do not get stuck in your mind that you absolutely have to land facing the wind, then set up poorly again and make a possibly fatal low turn. with that said, it is preferable to land facing the wind, that should have been if your initial canopy training. the pattern you fly will is a very important part of your training and should be reviewed with an instructor no matter what license you have, if you need more help with pattern work ask for it. your instructors should be happy to help you. It makes everyone in the sky with you safer. some people understand canopy flight immediately, some don't. seek out a rated canopy coach, buy Brian Germains book, do what ever it takes to gain the confidence and understand the fundamental concepts of canopy flight. did I mention No Low Turns? I also agree with the young lady who suggested videoing your landings, have a jumping friend or even a nonjumper film you then debreif with an instructor. if your on a budget, a six pack of beer can go a long way with some instructors! oh yeah, no low turns, STAY SAFE, Jim Oke The ground always, remembers where you are!
  14. think of it kinda like this, A sniper without a scope........ a ringsight will help if your flying your slot and it is sighted properly. although I have seen great video with a dot on the lens as well. it is the experience of the camera flyer. 16. try to be proactive instead of reactive. in other words, don't get caught watching what your student "is" doing.......try to see what they are "going" to do. AND. Never follow a student below your hard deck! Stay Safe and don't forget to smile, it works wonders with your students. Jimoke The ground always, remembers where you are!

  18. every year at my DZ we have a 2 freefly coaching weekends with Max Cohn. for those who have never heard of Max he is one of the most talented flyers in the world and he is just an all around great guy as well. a few years back I asked him if he would geek a tandem as I shot the outside video, he agreed. we pre-dived the jump. the jump was amazing, Max was flying like I dreamed of, carving head down, sitting, the lighting was beautiful........as you might have guessed, my camera died. I was pissed and within 1 hour I was buying a new trv27 from bestbuy. so it gets better, or worse, actually. the next morning we did it again, this time the student was quite large 250lbs with a 200lbs TI. the exit was sweet, I flipped to my belly in anticipation of the drouge about 8-10 seconds. the tandem master took a 20 second delay for some reason and I found myself saying shit!! as they cruised to about 180 mph. they looked like ants. (the tandem pair and Max) he was there and I wasn't. I felt like such a doofus. after we landed max came up to me with a smile. we talked a bit. he was so cool not making me feel like ass, which I felt like the biggest one anywhere. he asked if I got any footage and then insisted I take the footage from his camera for both videos and complete the sale to my customers. I told him I would but I was going to pay him what I would have made. he refused. Max Cohn is a class act! Stay Safe, Jimoke The ground always, remembers where you are!
  19. I agree totally, no video= no money for the video.....I don't agree to refund the jump $$ because they still made the jump. It is the cameraflyers only purpose on the skydive, to get the shot. if the said cameraflyer knew it, he should have manned up and took the hit for his own slot. followed by the whole "I am sorry, I didn't good footage" talk with the student. It has happened to every tandem cameraman at one time or another, for a multitude of reasons. it is embarassing to admit you didn't do a good job, but hopefully the customer can understand that photography at 120+ mph is not the same as a snapshot on the ground. if it is because the flyer doesn't have the skills to get the shot thats a whole different ballgame that should be taken up with the tandem Instructors as well as the DZO, that just sounds like an accident waiting to happen. My goal in shooting tandem video is to make the next video better than the last video. Stay Safe, Jimoke The ground always, remembers where you are!
  20. buy a canon rebel or rebel XT puts you at $700.+ and there are really not any quality lenses for around $200. even if you don't want norm kent quality. you probably don't want to invest this kind of $$s and not be happy with the results. rebel xt $899.US rebel $699. US. either can be found cheaper there is no urgent need for a lens other than stock, the battery last for plenty of shooting, the only addition to the camera is a CF card and a mount for your helmet. I have owned both and have been happy with both. stay safe Jimoke The ground always, remembers where you are!
  21. Hybrid tandem whats next? .......maybe a birdman suit for two and squeeze another min. of freefall. hope he doesn't cork or premature. stay safe everyone. oke The ground always, remembers where you are!
  22. talk and be honest with your instructors, get your paperwork in order and go make some jumps. I teach in Connecticut and students that don't finish AFF before old man winter rolls around are more than welcome (in my eyes) to travel south to stay current or finish their training. don't feel guilty to leave the nest. your home DZ will always embrace you. come back with your A Lic. 60 day currency and a case of beeer! no problems oh yeah.......get some tunnel time with a coach you won't regret it Stay Safe, Jimoke The ground always, remembers where you are!

  24. plan the dive, dive the plan. intentionally inducing instability on a cat 3 is not the way to go. scaring the shit out of a student is not a good practice. it has nothing to do with the dive flow, which is about stable solo freefall. if an instructor slides under a student by accident....so be it, shit happens. but to do it intentionally without prior discusion is verging on assanine. as any AFF I knows shit can go wrong and it can go way wrong fast. I wouldn't want that student on my head. just my opinion stay safe, Jimoke The ground always, remembers where you are!
  25. In 2003 I purchased a hp 7960, it produces great 8x10 photos. I estimate over 1000+ photos. 70 - 80% were purchased by the customer. the drawbacks are few, time, it takes the time to pack for 2 8x10s to print, not bad......the ink carts (3) photo color, 3 color, and b&w. in this sport we use a lot of blues, so when this runs out you replace the whole cart, I always feel I waste a lot of ink this way. I also tried the refilling route, this sucks balls and is a waste of time and money. the factory refilled are not much better. I will also use only factory carts from now on. I know of 2 camera guys who purchased the hp 8250 and had to return them because of faulty print heads that left "tracks" through the photos. so beware. if my printer craps out this year I will certainly buy a new printer that night and it will probably be an epson 1800. I like the fact that you replace only the color that is empty. but I dont think it has a view screen to preview from the cf card, but I really haven't reseached yet, I casually saw one at bestbuy.
