Well, I guess I should read more... I could have saved myself some time...

To explain, you put the canopy behind you and face away from the object, just kind of jump off haed high and it comes up from behind you.
-
I think you have confused it with the "Steamroller"
-
I have done a rollover off of a building that had no overhang. the canopy was rubbing against the bricks, and it was fine. Of course check for snag points, launch out, and definitely go slider off.

uh oh

You are totally not a BASE jumper, otherwise, that door would have opened itself...

I was actually thinking about that article a month ago and thought that it might be important to mention. It never talks about aerials and the effect that wind has. It would really only come to play on bridges and antennas, but I have had a handful of bridal wraps doing aerials that were directly due to the wind. Front flips in a tail wind are bad (in my opinion, of course) as the wind will blow the PC forward, and if you are ending in a sitting position at pull time, it is almost inevitable that the bridal will wrap your arm. On the other hand, in a head wind it will blow it safely behind you. The opposite can be said for gainers, head wind bad (especially if you are pitching more head down than not) and a tail wind will blow it in front of you away from your legs. I figured this might be important to bring to light, I got away with the wraps that I had, but better to prevent them before they happen. Hope it helps.

Happy birthday, Joy. thanks for the number.

"That’s like saying it is not illegal to drive at 150 mph in a school zone. It is just illegal to get caught." So show me the law that makes BASE jumping illegal. Oh, and aerial delivery doesn't count, skydiving falls into that category, too. So, by your standards, skydiving is illegal as well, because it is outlawed in some instances just as BASE jumping is.

That's like telling the cops I was gonna jump a building tonight, and having them come to my house and tell me how bad of an idea it is... come on, seriously?

"handled the situation properly" My dad always told me to never rat on anyone... never. That sounds silly, but it was one of the few things he really meant when he told me. Personally, I think you should mind your own business, and some guy jumping some balloon with a BASE rig (which is less complicated/safer in my opinion) is not your business, no matter how you want to try and look at it. You are a rat/narc, whatever you term you want to use. That is not a personal attack, that is a fact. I have had objects that I worked hard on opening get burned by people (unintentionally), and I may not get to jump said objects ever again, but I wouldn't call the cops on a fellow jumper, whether I hated him, or just simply disagreed with what he/she does or is doing. You pretty much called the cops on someone you don't even know, and for something you had nothing to do with. It wouldn't even directly effect you if someone were to get in trouble. You have hundreds of balloons to jump, and you narced someone out for one. I may never jump my building again. Good thing they have a perfect orginization with all kinds of rules for you to follow, so you don't have to have too much fun... Oh, rules and/or safety are a matter of opinion, what we do is not a science, it evolves every day. You should educate yourself about both types of gear before you say what you think is safer, I have.

There just haven't been nearly enough off-axis gainers out here, Matt, WTF?

I'll be there... oh wait, I'm in Denver, DAMN!

I use ropes for work every day, and have only heard stories of acid eating through ropes and people falling, battery acid in fact, from a car battery that leaked into the back of a truck and the ropes sat in it. Yeah, battery acid is REALLY bad.

I hate it for you, but at least you don't have to do puzzles with Abbie and Bill...

Again I say, Matt, NO MORE PARAGLIDING! Only nice safe BASE jumps for you (and they've all been that so far, right?). In Twin still, but I will be back on Sunday, hopefully Maggot's entourage has come to see that you are well... anyway, heal. You have many more adventures in front of you, that is certain. See you soon. Till then. Old school. Abbie, are you cooking burgers?

Sorry to report Calvin19 has been injured Paragliding.

Wow, my conversation wasn't quite as... riveting as yours sounds, but it was so good to hear Matt's voice (coherently, if even semi) and talk to him. I mentioned as many people as I could on the phone that were sending well wishes, and he was excited at the mention of names. It made me smile for a long time. Thanks Matt. -
Sounds like you got the right idea. Yeah, and don't forget the video .

Remember, though, that an under rotation will almost certainly result in a bridle wrap. I have experienced this twice with front flips (the first two I did). Also, I know it is a cliff, but if you have (somehow, or if you change objects) a tailwind, it will likely blow the PC in front of you which I have also had a bridle wrap from. Optimally I pitch right when I am vertical in a sitting position, and doing the rotation slow allows me to remain there. So essentially I am completely vertical from the pitch to the opening. It is easy to over do, you only have a short window from the time you can safely throw the PC (head high) to the time that you are over rotating (past belly to earth). Even if you over rotate just a little, you are going "against the grain", meaning that the canopy wants to put you upright while your body is rotating you in the opposite direction. It will whip you a lot more, which is where the line twists and off headings come from.

You dirty little SOB, I'll be there in March
