  1. We now have eleven official languages, and English is still the language of choice for Commerce and Industry.
  2. And I am sure he is not the only one. Just imagine if he did pull it off.
  3. 30%, apparently...... Clearly the CAS disagreed: Really. The Commission for Arbitration in Sport has an agenda. You are going to have to do better than that.
  4. Duane said that he had a pizza delivered. I was thinking of McNally and the pants theory. Given the high pucker factor of the jump, and bearing in mind the relative gravitational winds, if he dropped one in his pants and he had been eating a high-fiber diet, one would expect it to be a floater and hence the float time of the pants will have been affected.
  5. Clearly the next step is to conduct experiments to establish the float time of those pants. Is it know what he had for his last meal, prior to exiting the aircraft?
  6. 30%, apparently...... Clearly the CAS disagreed: Bev's reply did not deserve the sarcasm.
  7. Do you not agree that much can be determined about someone by observing who they hang out with? Wives and pastors would be prime examples. Does that mean if Michelle is caught smoking dope, we should check whether she inhales? From my observations, the American primaries involve simply throwing as much mud at the opponent as possible, and then wait to see how much of it sticks.
  8. He still has the opportunity to qualify for Bejing, but he admits it is going to be tough. He is still young though, and he has already suggested that perhaps London (2012) is more realistic.
  9. Interesting perspective, Max. How do you feel about Natalie du Toit. She has now qualified for Beijing in the 10km open water swim. While she doesn't use any prosthetics when swimming, she is still 'disabled' and will be competing against 'able-bodied' swimmers.
  10. What an interesting situation. Should he be allowed to compete in the Olympics? Pistorius wins CAS appeal Go, Oscar!
  11. For the other African American?
  12. my drive takes me along some lakes, up hills on curvy roads, through forests and everything. there are always a lot of bikers. Yip, I know what you mean about bikers. Over here we have culture of breakfast runs on Sunday mornings. Hundreds of bikers on single lane roads through the mountains. Scary stuff. It does sound like you have a very scenic drive to the DZ though.
  13. Here we go again. Next, someone is going to tell him skydiving is safer than driving to the DZ. considering what i have to put up with getting there, i feel safer on any given skydive than on the way to the dropzone. YMMV! Quicker than I expected.
  14. There will always be a blurred line. During the Apartheid years the SA defence force consisted of a small permanent force complemented by a substantial number of conscripts. Conscription was mandatory. During the 'bush war' in South West Africa/Angola there were organised groups of civilians that supported us and supplied us with gift parcels, sports equipment, books and so on, while we were on 'tour'. These groups were completely a-political and their only concern was the welfare of the troops. On the other side of the blurred line were other groups, such as the End conscription campaign. They were very 'political' and, for example, actively encouraged conscientious objection. One can (with hindsight) say that the latter group was politically correct, even though at the time they severely undermined the morale of the serving troops. Being a fromer soldier with several tours under my belt, I may be biased, but I still say, support the troops, no matter the politics that got them to where they are.

  16. Interesting follow-up on SkyNews.
  17. There is a thread in this forum titled "Why do the rest of the world hate America" or words to that effect. I would venture to suggest that sentiments like those quoted contributes a lot.
  18. Afrikaans: "Dink aan my, wanneer ek weg is" "Ware liefde". Notice the similarity with German.
  19. Please, please, for the love of God, stop getting your science from creationist websites. Better to rely on Skydiving websites?
  20. What was his float time?
  21. If I have my bearings right, that road in Gdal1 goes to Loskop dam. I remember the locals having drag races with their F250s on that landing strip - not a lot of air traffic back then, apart from the odd crop duster.
  22. Yup. It is a pain in the ass when you pick up a spare.
  23. I went to boarding school in Groblersdal. At the time they had a station, complete with platform, but no railway tracks. While I was there the town had its first traffic lights installed - an airshow like this would've blown those farmers' minds back then!
