You've got a pretty funny signature-line there...

Is this first-hand experience or theory? And I mean: did you hit the wall and your vented canopy didn't collapse? Or did you at least see it with your eyes? Did the canopy stay manoeuvrable? I would love to belive this, but... I saw 2 cliff-strikes with my eyes. 1 st non-vented, canopy collapsed instantly, jumper died. 2nd vented and valved, canopy collapsed instantly, jumper died. I have never jumped a vented canopy, but I would like to try one to see if I can find benefits for sinking it in, stall turns, faster pressurization etc. And I know there are many people who have hit the wall and live to tell the story. But I think it is a very bad idea to think that a vented canopy will save your ass once you start hitting the wall. Imho your only chance is to avoid object-strike by all means. If a vented canopy helps you doing that because it stays more controllable in a stall or near-stall then that's excellent and my next canopy will be vented, but that's a different approach.

Garmin told me that you cannot change the Basemap, that's the map you are reffering to. There are different models for the US and Europe and so on. You can upload maps into the device though, but you have to buy them and they are expensive, at least the interesting ones for Europe are (the topo maps). But you only need to do that in order to display the map on the device for navigation (which is the big bonus of models like the Vista). For recording flight-data you won't need a map at all, that's why I originally wanted to go for the Geko...

I assume you wanna say that you have to change your body-position in order to see the unit and so you're changing your performance? Or am I totally wrong here? I use an altimeter on a mudflap-mount (the wedge, which is mounted onto the mudflap, but the actual device is on a little platform further down) and it is super-easy to read while flying the suit. A gps mounted there should be the same, so that should solve the problem
-
Hmm, that's too bad, I heard the same from a friend who also uses the Gekko. I wanted to get that model too as it has all that I need, but glide-ratio is what's really important to me. Does anyone know of units that can display the glide-ratio in real-time? What about the eTrex Vista?

And besides the forum guidelines: what would you do with that information anyhow?

And I also uploaded them to skydivingmovies.com (in the Base-section). Please download from there. Thanks

Has Nameless Tower been jumped by anyone? I read an expedition report by Xaver Bongard, who climbed it with a friend and originally wanted to jump it, but then didn't since from the group, just the two made the summit and he didn't want to leave his friend alone on top. He also said he dropped something and it hit 50 m further down.

I just uploaded some fresh ones. www.oberlander.biz Enjoy

Hi, I jump an Atom 0000 with a CF89 and have made quite some ws-jumps with it. No problem at all. I use a 10ft bridle, 28 zp-pc and have opened the corners a bit. That's it. Stefan

No. And since you don't have a reserve, I recommend you or a knowledgeable person perform a complete check on a new canopy. Then you can pack it into a student-skydive-rig and jump it from a plane. That will also give you time to figure out your custom brake-settings.
-
Why would you want to? The cool thing about skijumping on skijumping-slopes is that you can land on those skis If you want to deploy a rig, you could do something like this (check attached picture)
-
There's very strict regulations on what kind of suit you are allowed to wear for competitions, even on how bulky the suit might be. Otherwise the suit would make all the difference. But I guess a suit like the S-Fly Access would be very cool for it
-
Not a problem at all to use just 1
-
Pull altitude? I've landed with no input at all. The brakes were still unstowed and as I was opening the zips of my armwings, I couldn't grab the risers yet. It sure helped that I was flying a big 7-cell (at 0.68) and the canopy had just finished transitioning from an open wing into a flying one, so there wasn't much speed.
-
Packing techniques and anti-twist-mods are all nice and surely help, but I think the 1 most important thing is a good body-position. It's harder to stay really symmetrical with your wings collapsed than it is in a normal freefall position without wings, so you just have to pay a bit more attention. I jump a loaded hp-wing with my suit, pack like normal and usually don't have any problems since I pay attention to my position. A couple of years ago I got a bit lazy about it and quickly ran into trouble

Hi, I wanna get a GPS to get some hard data on glide-ratio etc when flying my suit. Which models did you try and what do you think works best? Thanks, Obi

When is it happening and what do you have to do to take part? Obi

Hi all, after doing some skibase in the Alps I thought I could use the oportunity of being in Norway for a couple of days to do some of it there. Does anybody have info on cliffs that are jumpable on skis, where to find them and about the snow conditions? Do you know anybody who has done some skibase in Norway? Thanks, Obi
