  1. The footage you see is in Matchstick productions new ski movie "Seven Sunny Days" as well as in the Focused TV show on Rush (not yet sold on DVD) as Espan said. THe ski movie DVD also has some other interesting basejumps and I imagine the DVD extras will have some more footage. Seven SUnny Days can be purchased at www.skimovie.com
  2. i had 34. when i tried out my s1. if everyone had a different attitude, perhaps we would forbid students to jump WITHOUT a wingsuit, after all, it is a skydive specific jump suit that can aid in finding a stable freefall position and allows for more time to open your parachute. attitude could be: "OK its been 50 jumps now, you can ditch the training wheels and fly without the wingsuit, but beware, things will happen much faster now. Good luck." A wingsuit does restrict some movement, and that is the big flaw in my suggestion, but I bet someone could find another. Perhaps this is not the very best idea ever suggested, but it is good to see an issue from both ends of the spectrum and think outside the box. the whole, wait for hundreds of skydives before trying a wingsuit out mentality is a thing of the past. The suits are easier to fly now, more stable and forgiving. it is better to be realistic and just share some pointers and warnings rather than tell a newbie "you can't do that, it is poor judgement, if you do you will die" because once they stick it once, you have no credibilty. and, if you do not condone their use of a suit they may not ask for help at all. it is best to just remind new-comers to check their alti, beware of where they are, try out a chest mount alti, do a bunch of pratice pulls, become familiar their wing cutaway handle(s), or other helpful stuff.
  3. by the way, the 1st post of this thread made me laugh my ass off, out loud, right here in the middle of class. didn't you see the humor in that?
  4. dont put words in my mouth. i did not say they are all crap. i did not say if you dont jump from a rock then you suck. i just said that the best of the best do it all and very well. and I am right.
  5. wrong. the best WS pilots BASE and skydive and do everything in between. winning the distance contests too. the skydancers have no real idea of how they are performing because you are so far from the ground that you can't tell what is going on. Your little gizmos and gadgets can only tell you so much.
  6. why not just stop writing novels about your stupid big ass wingsuit and see if you can sell it for like $50 before everyone realizes its big and stupid.
  7. your wingsuit looks stupid
  8. wrong totally wrong Tom. a hard opening is a maxed out DEceleration, not acceleration. track into a deep brake setting and it will slam you harder than a shallow one. on a go and throw or deep delay slider down parachutes open really hard and fast even without all the gizmos that you you guys throw into the equation these days. (vents, toxins etc..) all you guys are thinking WAY too much. if your BASE rig is opening hard stop jumping vents, stop springing for $200 great big pilot chutes. switch to a small mesh slider, roll your nose, double wrap your rubber bands, whatever. try diffferent set ups altering them one at a time. slider down base rigs open really fast and hard. thats just the deal on any slider down jump, doing aerials can help you not feel the slam so much. 9. hi jimmy I am not sure if this is off topic or not but i just packed a new fox into an old vision container of mine and I was once again amazed by the ease of packing and the fact that it accomodates my bulky fox 265 as well as it does my little raven II. what a great piece of equipment. i did not even have to go searching for one of those ribbon deals, or change closing loops length or anything. UPH
  10. contemplating the Kwood session tomorrow... anyone?
  11. i will personally buy the first man who hits 5 tahoe ski base exits this year a nights worth of booze consumption. 5 I am thinking of are: the apoopa site of 06 SV hot lap 4th of july Kwood becks rock. seems pretty doable to me, even starting now, any 5 go... UPH
  12. i jumped the mushroom on the Eyegar on halloween of 06 with squirrel shit, Yuri and pidge. great conditions.
  13. i hear there is reasonably priced crystal methamphetamine there and that prostitutes are also of similarly high quality and reasonably priced. UPH
  14. today there has been some action on both the north and south shores of the lake. just go and throws, but man do these base rigs work great with a little bit of forward speed. all three of us had canopys open that opened when they were less than 20ft below exit. go and throw with 46 inch PCs and about 20-25 MPH of speed off of 190ft (160ft to 1st ledge). what a blast. FOX LOAD, SUBTERMINAL SICKNESS! uncle potatohead
  15. actually you are wrong. it is not the standard practice for the FJC instructors to actually jump out of an airplane with you. thus this is not an old (standard) technique. most suggest to go skydive the base canopy etc, but Miles is right there doing it with the student. evaluating progress and skills in a relatively safe and familiar environment for the student. even safer than his bridge. Miles has been skydiving with some of his students and plans to incorporate it more and more into his BASE camp through the new skydive zone in Twin. He has radios and he also has skydive containers to fit his student BASE rigs, or of course their own rigs if they have them. It is also not standard practice for any of the FJC's that I know of to have a balloon available to practice still air exits. Miles has a balloon and the skills to fly it, and he incorporates this into his BASE camp. although I know the balloon is a bit more of a project (weather, wind, time etc...), and I dont know if he has thrown many students out of it as of yet. I don't know the exact details, but I do know that these are aspects of Miles D's base camp that he is more and more frequently incorporating into his course. I have heard of no other courses moving forward like this with hands on skydive training and balloon experience (fun). for more information one should contact miles' base camp via his website: milesdaisher.com
  16. with 1800+ base jumps to his credit, and some bitchen new aspects incorporated into the FJC for the summer (skydives from planes and balloon) it is hard to argue that any other course rivals Mile's D's BASE camp.

    Toxic PC's

f111, it is better all this fractionally faster stuff is just silly. base rigs open fast as hell. totally fast and predictable; no need to speed them up. F111 is best. i am right. everyone else is wrong; zp is for 46 inch and 48 inch PCs used on hand held sub 230ft FF without skis: Uncle potato head.
  18. if facing nearby wall, TURN parachute. ASAP. if you think for a second, hmmm... what shall i use to turn the parachute, I read 96 posts on the dorkzone and it seems for some circumstances the toggles are better and some circumsta SLAM!! ouch! i just tagged the wall. risers can work great even on very low cliffs. 230 ft free fall, perfect 180 off header, both hands puling down on right riser from way up by the carabiner deal, he got it to 90 and then flared with 2 risers and stood it up. (high experience aussie jumper) he got an A. toggles work great. 325 ft sheer cliff, poor judgement gusty head/ crosswind. 160-180 off heading. deep double brake stab to very quick and effective toggle turn to 90, then a fairly effective flare on the talus. (very high experience Asylum base course instructor) he got an A. after a while jumpers get their own style, they fly parachutes in their preferred way, some carve S turns, some sink it in, some hook it in, some just pull where they land. In utah's 180 toggle correction video, yes, he was like lightning on the toggles, but it being a bridge you cant tell if he flew under the bridge or not. plus, his parachute opened on heading, not off heading. Oh, and when you do the flare, you do it in one motion, none of this up and down pumping business.
  19. looks cold. aren't you scared of polar bears? do you need a dogsled and pack of dogs to get to this far away frozen land? we have a rule here in california, if you can see your breath that means dont go outside. have fun.
  20. all you guys: even the most prominent gear manufacturers dont ask much in the way of questions these days. newbies, and experienced jumpers take great risk in choosing to go base jumping. people will get hurt, people wil make dumb mistakes. dont worry about it so much, just help out when you can. i sold my base rig to a guy recently. I did not ask any questions, but I did give him a new helmet. jt
  21. I am selling a base rig right now on right here on DZ.com it is available to anyone with $1150, unless. of course they strike me as a COMPLETE and total idiot, there are indeed a few people/ types i would not sell to but in general, i am just looking to free up some space in the closet. if that person gets hurt or dies... well you know, that is the sort of thing that happens to base jumpers, quite frequently i might add. uncle potato head

    wingsuite base

"The in-experienced tend to have little fear of their 1st WS BASE jump. The experienced tend to have more fear." I agree entirely, and this carries beyond wingsuits. after awhile you have your own close calls, you see some friends get hurt some die, you realize this isnt the sweetest sport ever. you get a sour taste of it. I have more fear now sometimes than when i had less experience. sometimes it is the same amount but never really any less. it is too bad it is just so god dam much fun sometimes. now i am choosy. I only jump bitchen stuff with good friends in good conditions with good LZs. a total snob. UNCLE POTATO HEAD

    wingsuite base

for me it was: 30 or 40 ws flights before ws base including helicopter and balloon. I first base jumped a skyflier wingsuit from K's exit 5 after a week or two of great weather jumping. i never really enjoyed the wingsuit flying until i got this S fly this summer. uncle potato head
