  1. I personally can't fault Airtec for this latest incident/development.

As some people choose to push the performance envelopes of their canopies, speeds are being generated that approach that of freefall.

Common sense to me dictates that this could be a problem when jumping an AAD.

I think we need to take some personal responsibility for our actions and choices within the sport. We all must learn from our tragedies and experiences...so hopefully this latest incident will help us develop safer procedures and equipment within the swooping discipline.

Perhaps the short term solution is to turn an AAD off before executing super high performance maneuvers under small canopies, now that we know it can prove to be a problem.

I always roll the nose and tail very tight on my sabre. If I don't I get a nice surprise at pull time. My opening with both nose and tail rolled are very pleasant (not nearly as pleasant as my spectre, but good enough).

Typically, rolling the nose "tightly" will not produce the intended effect of a slower opening, as the tighter you roll...the more it will want to unroll (the nature of ZP). Try rolling it loosely...ie, if you roll 4 times tightly, try rolling it 4 times but more loosely. You will find that the material will stay rolled after you release it and wrap the tail.

  3. You could try calling someone in the department, a receptionist or assistant and inquire as to the status of the position...i.e. has a hiring decision been made yet.

You might send a second letter/e-mail re-iterating your interest in the position and that you look forward to hearing what the next steps would be. Include in that note a statement to suggest "I can provide additional information such as references or samples of work to assist you in making a good hiring decision".

    Good luck!

  4. If it were me...drinking alone...I would move it to the 3rd bottle status, that way when you start drinking it you are already wrecked and it wouldn't matter if it were a bottle of Opus1 or a bottle of Boones Farm...

    How about:

"Sorry bro, we've got this one all planed out just right, how about we go do one 2 loads from now..."

Then you have a chance to teach this guy, maybe even help him overcome his problems.

Bingo...we have a winner! Great advice...

Loiter, downwind, base, final. Left turns only.

The rule: "First one down sets the pattern" and the first one down rips a 180 at 200 feet when a jumper is set up behind him for a straight in forces that jumper to either rip a 180 too, or divert. Skydivers up high then see canopies landing in different directions and sometimes things really deteriorate into a free-for-all.

AMEN brother...I've thought about this same thing for some time, and too have been frustrated at times especially when jumping at an unfamiliar DZ with the various landing "cultures".

I think the simplest thing is to communicate about the pattern and direction of landing before getting on the aircraft. Communication means discussing things like light and variable/shifting winds etc...

One of the golden rules to Skydiving is "Always have a plan". Discuss the landing plan before getting on the Aircraft...execute that plan.

  7. I'm a big fella...but don't take up more than my own space. I was on a flight once where there were three of us big fella's in the same row. We were all in the 6'3 to 6'5 and 250 lb range.

I've got to tell you, we were a team in that row...alternating the lean forward/lean backward positions for the whole 4 hour flight.

Comic relief for the flight attendants and other passengers, as we were moaning and groaning the whole trip.

Will my neighbor's dog be there ? or do they go to the same place we go ?

Saw Madison for the last time today this morning. A teary eyed good bye to start the day. She was my friend for 10 years. She wagged her tail
as i cried and said good bye.
She had cancer/tumors for a year and had one leg amputated last year. Big sweet yellow lab she was. Today she went to where ever dog souls go. Miss her already. But glad she is free.

I'm relating...I just lost my beautiful happy young lab to liver cancer last week. She was only 2 1/2 years old. Brought her in to the vet for what we thought was a tummy ache, turned out she was bleeding out internally...emergency surgery found her liver was lacerated by the tumors. She didn't make it out of surgery. We never saw it coming.

My dog was truly a great friend and companion...so I can relate to what you must be feeling.

I too have no interest in heaven if our animals cannot go...

Would you pay attention to the thread!!!!!!!!!!!! They are NOT in the Presidents lawn, they are in HIS NEIGHBORS LAWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How would you like a bunch of assholes to set up port-o-johns in YOUR front yard because your neighbor killed their son?

    To the Crawford Protestors:
Go the hell home and get a job. Vote for someone else next time. Leave the residents of Crawford alone. Go find a drooling veggie to waste your time on.

I have paid attention to the thread...and I am well aware that the protesters are not on the Presidents lawn. Point being...screw up as bad as our commander in chief and you will get "jobless stink hippies" all over lawns in your area.

They probably did vote for someone else...but then again, Diebold and Katherine Harris happened.

And regarding the last drooling veggie...I believe it was our President, Tom Delay, and Bill Frist that were wasting their time on that along with the "stink hippies".
