  1. You may already know that bait and groper are types of fish but the rest of the dialogue is like nothing I've heard. The author of the article does not appear to be Australian nor is English his first language. It may be a story that was (mis)translated to Urdu and back again. Although, I've never been to Queensland...
  2. I was born on the African continent and lived there most of my life, I'm as African as most DZcommers are American. I regard Trump's comment as being objectively offensive although I'm not offended by it because I'm sufficiently secure in my identity and I consider the source. Would an apology really give anyone satisfaction ? It's not going to change Trump's mindset on anything, he'll just be more careful in future regarding who he shares an honest opinion with. An apology in this context would be akin to "I'm sorry those comments were made public" because nobody would believe anything more sincere.
  3. A Chkdsk should not take more than about 4 hours even on a 1TB drive. I'm now inclined to agree with an earlier poster that your HDD is on it's way out. Cut your losses. Get a new HDD, an OS disc, your "drivers and utilities" and your backups and start fresh.
  4. I have never owned a Dell of any kind, so I cannot comment for sure. Most "drivers and utilities" discs are only add-ons installed after Windows. However, major manufacturers have been known to customize their versions of Windows to include their preferred drive partitioning, hardware drivers and utilities as part of the Windows installation. The easiest way to know is to put yours in and try boot from it. Does your laptop offer any other menu options during boot up ? Sometimes options briefly appear similar to "Press F12 for menu..." which may take you to some Dell recovery options. Some manufacturers such as HP create a semi-hidden partition on their laptops that contain recovery files and utilities accessible from the boot menu. It may be worth checking for that.
  5. It could make it worse if you have installed or updated anything significant since the last restore point. The latest hardware drivers, Windows updates, service packs, installations of MS Office or other programs installed after the restore point... Any of these things could either be gone or downgraded to an earlier version after a system restore. If you had perhaps manually created a restore point in the past when your computer was all good then system restore may be lucky to return it to that state but if you have a dodgy HDD or corrupt system files then bets are off. For a Windows Repair; The advisory regarding the Windows 7 ISO on the forums states that you would need to get the ISO for the same version as yours (Ultimate, Enterprise, Home, 32-bit, 64-bit etc.) and so you should not be using just any old Windows 7 disc for a Repair. If you're down to your last option and decide to re-install the entire OS then any version you can get your hands on will do, provided you're happy with it's features.
  6. I don't think a system restore is going to help you much. The Windows "system restore" is little more than a Windows registry backup; It refers to drivers, system files, settings and programs that were installed or referenced on your computer at a specific point in time (your restore point) and attempts to "re-link" the OS to those files if they still exist on your HDD. System restore cannot generally recover files that are either totally deleted or corrupted. I am assuming that you noticed in my earlier post to this link that; "If you do not have a Windows 7 installation disc you can download a free legal ISO image of Windows 7 SP1 at Windows 7 Forums" For that you will of course need another computer to download and burn approx 3.5GB to DVD, but if you are able then I believe it's your best bet. The added bonus is that if the repair doesn't work then you can use the same disc to re-install the entire OS as a last resort.
  7. Hm.. is that true for all values of 2 ?
  8. It does appear that you may have some file corruption issue. Not necessarily related to a virus, it may have resulted from a bad sector on your HDD or not shutting down correctly. For that kind of problem you will probably need to do a Windows 7 repair and for that you will need an installation disc. My Google-fu found this link to a forum that suggests steps to take. It's further down the page at "Instructions for a Windows 7 Repair installation." No 'mericans were harmed during the making of this post.
  9. I don't buy the implied causality here and I'm rather surprised that you do. According to one news source there have been 38 anti-Muslim attacks in the U.S. since the November attacks in Paris. Are you chalking this particular one (or all of them if you prefer) to Trump on the basis of "...appears to be a strong admirer..." ?
  10. Having migrated to Oz six months ago, I have found some of their marketing rather quirky; (Attached)
  11. Going back 12 years now, I remember this similar thread with some gems in it. No 'mericans were harmed during the making of this post.
  12. This attachment works too ! No 'mericans were harmed during the making of this post.
  13. 'Bill' doesn't seem very American, unless it's short for Bilagáana ? The notion that everything African, or anything worthy of appreciation by Africans, has to be entirely indigenous is a tired one.
  14. I'm somewhat doubtful that Trevor Noah will be as successful on the Daily Show, but for reasons other than his historic tweets. The Daily Show, much like Speakers Corner, has predominantly USA viewership with a lot of US political content. A non-US presenter might not be able to pull off those kinds of gags with the same confidence and 'home-ground' credentials. I can foresee a few; "What? Noah took a shot at ? WTF does he even know about ?"
  15. How does one think the unthinkable ? ... With an itheberg.
  16. Sounds like something from the 'red light' Soho district...
  17. A double negative... Engineering is not creative ? Are you sure that's what you intended to say ?
  18. Do you advocate that we should take the worst kinds of killers and give them free room & board ? ...as a deterrent for others who may be considering the same type of crime ? Do you reckon that'll do it ?
  19. That argument did not work for the defendants at the Nuremburg trials.
  20. Really ? Didn't work too well for who ? All things considered, the white minority in S.A. were doing quite well for themselves right up until the last days of apartheid, certainly better than they are doing now. General Mattis is welcome to argue that the concept of apartheid is morally reprehensible, but if he is suggesting that Israelis will disadvantage themselves by doing it, then he is being very naive indeed.
  21. I see a few things wrong asserting these kinds of claims for general public acceptance. Firstly, I doubt the accuracy of most such studies, in so far as drawing conclusive results based on race or gender alone; What sampling was used ? Was a reliably accurate testing method used in each 'study' ? How many of these traits are nature vs. nurture ? Africans within Africa are often regarded as good middle and long distance runners, and yet African-Americans seem to have stronger talents in track sprinting. It could be theorised that the comparative scarcity of mechanised transport within large parts of Africa might have something to do with that trend, as opposed to pure genetics. Individuals within a race or gender group are extremely diverse and these kinds of studies tend to paint with a very broad brush. More importantly perhaps is; Would people really benefit by 'knowing', as a publicly accepted fact, that they have an inherent race or gender disadvantage ? As an example; You might be aware that close to 50% of all MENSA test candidates score less than 100 on the tests (since the '100' score is the calculated average.). However, the testing policy advises not to reveal low scores to candidates. They are instead just told that they 'did well'. It serves no benefit to a person's self-esteem to be told that they are 'officially' less intelligent than the average of all tested candidates. This is largely why pretty much every person ever tested will claim to have a 100+ IQ, it's the result that was given to them. It's only a true result for about half of all tested candidates but it would be pointlessly damaging to advise them differently.
  22. MLA call for his arrest One reader comment was perhaps more relevant for me than the actual article; On another note; I have read that Obama's Africa tour will cost the US approx. $100 million. *queue the sound of an old cash register.*
  23. For the last 15 years of my life so far; approx. 70% of my diet has been KFC, pizza from Caio's and burgers from Steers (popular franchise here). I also have a tremendous fondness for a particular brand of soda; 2 to 3 liters per week. As at today; I'm 41 yrs, have a BMI of 24.2 and colesterol of 3.3 , I weigh 2kg more than I did on my 18th birthday. How is that possible ? A little excercise, low appetite and perhaps some crazy genes. I never have more than 2 meals each day and I very seldom have breakfast. IMO, 'junk food' gets a bad rap. I expect that most people can have pretty much anything if done in moderation.
  24. Well, since you've opened the door..... Would it surprise you to know that South African law enforcement still performs certain types of racial profiling targeting black people, even under a 'black' administration ? The President, the Minister of Safety & Security, the Commissioner of Police, most policemen, and most of the nation's citizens are black. However, due to the remaining economic divides, the majority of drivers on South African public roads are white. At every roadblock that I have passed through within the last 5 years, there has been (in my observation) a consistently disproportionate number of black drivers being pulled over and searched or questioned, and done so by black cops. Despite clear evidence of certain types of crime statistics being linked to racial demographics, it seems all too easy for racial minorities in many countries to claim discrimination, in lieu of a valid argument, on the simple principle that law enforcement authorities consists of a racial demographic that is different from their own. They don't get to lean on that crutch here anymore.
