  1. In honor of our departed friend, Carroll Shaw, we are holding an annual 6way speed competition at Bay Area Skydiving in Byron on Saturday, September 19th. 3 rounds (Speed star, Speed Wedge, Speed Star). Teams will have 1 novice, 3 intermediates, and 2 advanced divers. Everyone who knew Carroll, learned from him, or just want to honor his memory is invited to participate. Because he was our main cook, we are also having salsa and gumbo competitions. 2. No one does it better. Thanks Pat, refreshers like this help maintain the energy that keeps me jumping. madjohn Main goals in life: Be on the "Jumpers Over Eighty" (JOE) World Record and attend the Lost Prairie Boogie once after I'm gone.
  3. Jumped with Billy and other Georgia guys at Quincy before he became an AFF guru. He had to buy 10 cases of beer to stay on Piras' record attempt. Sorry I never ran into him after that. 5. Not the same Carl Beck. Much younger, got out of the navy in 79-80. Married to Nan who ran manifest at Antioch. Nickname "Pissant". Heard he had become a minister and was living in the south. This was over 20 years ago. madjohn protogee of Dick Enarson Main goals in life: Be on the "Jumpers Over Eighty" (JOE) World Record and attend the Lost Prairie Boogie once after I'm gone.

  8. Great shot of the Antioch Peas. It's all covered with houses now. 3rd photo does not look like Antioch though. Gene and Linda's sone Gene is going through AFF with us at Byron now. madjohn Main goals in life: Be on the "Jumpers Over Eighty" (JOE) World Record and attend the Lost Prairie Boogie once after I'm gone.

  10. Dr. Doug, a great guy, belly-flyer, CRW-dog, came to join us in Lodi many years ago. Visited me in the hospital after my tandem bounce. Memorial will be at Lodi on Dec 7th, 2pm. Will miss him a lot. Blue skies, madjohn Main goals in life: Be on the "Jumpers Over Eighty" (JOE) World Record and attend the Lost Prairie Boogie once after I'm gone.
  11. Bob came to Lost Prairie years ago in his van. Set up camp and had lots of pictures and albums to show. Spent a long time talking to him. He'd challenge the younger jumpers to an accuracy jump competition, $1, winner take all. Didn't see him lose. No altimeter or goggles. Definitely a loss for the sport. blue skies Bob. madjohn Main goals in life: Be on the "Jumpers Over Eighty" (JOE) World Record and attend the Lost Prairie Boogie once after I'm gone.
  12. Chris, We still haven't been able to get Carrol's ashes, although we're trying to locate them this week. If not, we'll be doing a missing man formation dive this Saturday, after the Speed Scrambles which will bear his name. We're also having a potluck and Salsa competition. madjohn Main goals in life: Be on the "Jumpers Over Eighty" (JOE) World Record and attend the Lost Prairie Boogie once after I'm gone.

  15. Our First Jump Course Instructor Carrol Shaw passed away on August 19th from a heart attach during a procedure for renal failure. We just found out about it when the coroner contacted us because Carrol wanted his ashes spread. Carrol was our head cook and always provided his salsa, gumbo and other dishes to our cookouts. Hundreds of students have him to thank for their introduction into skydiving. He was once with the Skyknights in Wisconsin for a while. He will be greatly missed and impossible to replace. Blue skies my buddy, madjohn Main goals in life: Be on the "Jumpers Over Eighty" (JOE) World Record and attend the Lost Prairie Boogie once after I'm gone.

  17. Texxas Stars have become a tradition at Lost Prairie. It's also been called the cursed formation if Texas Tom Webber is on the load (it seldom works if he's on it). On year he got tired of the failures and hand picked some people to complete it, it almost worked but he docked in the wrong slot. We love doing it when he's not there just to piss him off. madjohn Main goals in life: Be on the "Jumpers Over Eighty" (JOE) World Record and attend the Lost Prairie Boogie once after I'm gone.
  18. Blue skies, Geno. Didn't know you were gone. Is this young mr ballard posting? madjohn Main goals in life: Be on the "Jumpers Over Eighty" (JOE) World Record and attend the Lost Prairie Boogie once after I'm gone.
  19. Obviously there are a lot more people going, but they're all on the Facebook page. Doesn't stop people here from listing their arrival dates though. July 30th madjohn Main goals in life: Be on the "Jumpers Over Eighty" (JOE) World Record and attend the Lost Prairie Boogie once after I'm gone.

  21. When JP left us, Randy Frasier setup a college fund for his twin daughters. They are graduating from High School this week. If anyone would like to contribute to their fund in JP's memory, please IM me for more details. madjohn Main goals in life: Be on the "Jumpers Over Eighty" (JOE) World Record and attend the Lost Prairie Boogie once after I'm gone.

  23. Somehow, we're not getting the usual number of LP posts this year. Is this do to a lack of Tall Guy and Grimmie posts? Hopefully this is not a premonition of smaller turnout, not with the Skyvan finally coming back. madjohn Main goals in life: Be on the "Jumpers Over Eighty" (JOE) World Record and attend the Lost Prairie Boogie once after I'm gone.
