If your laptop doesn't have a firewire conection, even if you use a firewire / usb adapter, you will have problems. the adapter is only for the plug, but the speed is the usb speed, the transfer rate is the one from an usb conection. Well... Let´s try some things here: 1) if u can copy the DVD to the computer, try to reencode and mount the DVD, but remember that mpeg2 compression is destructive, so if this works your image will be worse than the one in the DVD; 2) if the DVD wasn't closed, this means that the datas like headers, b-trees and others aren´t recorded in the disc, so the computer can't see them. You have one option. Try some unerase software. This software will recover the 'lost' datas, this means, your files, or at least some of them. How do you charge? (It's not how much). Here, when de passenger arrives, he decides if he wants video/photo. If yes, we go there and jump with him/her. If not, we don't go. As I've read here, I think that in some DZ the camera goes anyway and then later shows the work. Is that? How do you do? i see a lot of guys here jump with a digital still camera. i'm thinking about using one. In Brazil we charge a specific value for a video and still photo jump. After the jump we just give the passenger the roll of the film, and the passenger develops it. We usually don't even see how the pictures were... Do you do the same in your country? And what do you do when you shoot digital stills? How many pics do you give to the passenger? Before the jump you say how many he/she can choose? AndyMan, let's go step by step. - overexposed and underexposed areas: check where exactly your camera measures the light. With that measure, the camera will choose the aperture for you. - Out of focus pic – did you shoot in auto or manual focus? If you are using manual focus, probably the image is out of focus because it wasn’t anymore inside the limit you have set. - aperture and depth of field: larger aperture means smaller depth of field, that’s right, but when you use a wide angle lens, this doesn’t function, you’ll always have a bigger depth of field. For example: a 20mm lens with an aperture of f4 has a bigger depth of field than a 50mm lens with the same aperture. - And another thing: the depth of field is not de same before the subject (between it and the camera) and after it. I was thinking about the possible emergencies that the cameramen have to deal with. It’s important for everybody that is beginning, and also for the experienced cameramen. Those are the points I remember. Please add more: - the loop of the wing has to be over the altimeter strap; - helmets without sharp angles; - helmets that you can easily take off, with one hand; - do not use the RSL (steven’s); - be careful with the wing when deploying; - always deploy stable (even when using the reserve); - debris that can came from the formation; - sudden openings of the main or reserve; what else?
