  1. They'd probably end up looking like your avatar if they did! -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  2. Any excuse to launch into a hysterical anti-American rant, eh? Damn... I've been outed Well this may come as a shock to you, so I hope you’re firmly seated on your moose, but we really don’t consider the opinions of Canadian skydivers when making energy policy. Energy policy? What's that? Use it all, and if we need to then just take it? And it's easy to hang on to the moose, what with those great big antlers! Apparently your buddies have had more than enough eco-nuttery themselves; conservatives recently swept parliament and made Conservative Party leader Stephen Harper your prime minister. Ouch! We have a Prime Minister? I haven't been paying attention... BTW.. it's not that Steven Harper won't do anything about climate change, he's just too stupid to actually understand the fact that it's happening. Isn't ignorance bliss? I didn't vote Conservative. I was hoping Al Gore would come up and give us a run. We'll take em since you don't want em. BTW.. I love Americans (well.. 99% of them that I've met are WAY more polite than Canadians). I just don't like America.
  3. That's rediculous... how does anyone ever get convicted? Why would you agree to giving up evidence against yourself if you didn't have to? -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  4. So all deathbed confessions are automatically true? It will interest you all to know, in that instance, that there most definitely were aliens at Roswell then. http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,21994224-2,00.html I believe it. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  5. This could be true. Though it might be because HD tandems are very rare overall.. However, what is a fact is that online people are much safer skydivers. In real life the situation is much different. For example: How many people here on DZ.com has said backflying under tandems is dangerous and should never be done ? And how many cameraflyers frequently film tandems from underneath ? Now Im not really saying what is right and what is wrong. Im just saying it sounds a bit hippocrite ? Doesnt it ? None of our guys do..... ever. And they make great videos. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  6. With the pollution / population ratio the US has, I would say that the word "green", no matter how prevelant it may seem is severely underused. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  7. I didnt pack it this time, the girl who is at the head of the packing concession at Sebastian did, I truly believe she did everything right tho. a jumper in the van told me that my left brake toggle was exposed ---------------------------------------------------------- Those two don't add up to four using my kinda math. But.. meh, that's what you get. Learn to pack for yourself. Not knowing that you already had two reserve rides and seeing the picture, I would think that maybe you took the wraps because you were concerned by the different flight characteristics of your main and reserve and were nervous about landing your reserve from full flight. A 7 cell F-111 canopy flies alot different from a 9 cell ZP canopy. So much different that you may feel you need to take wraps to get any performance out of it. If I were you, I would do a couple demo jumps on whatever reserve you plan on buying before you are surprised by its flight characteristics in an emergency situation. Judging by the tail deflection and your arm position in the picture and your description of the canopy being in "full flight", you probably didn't need the wraps to be flying the canopy the way it was designed, but more so to get the "feel" of the flare the way you wanted. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  8. That's too funny, it's what I entered this thread to say! -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  9. Nope, the most overused word over there would be :- Awesome. I'd say in skydiving...."inherently", is the most overused and misused. Hmmm... and I thought the most overused word in the US would be something along the lines of: Me I We or oddly enough... us. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  10. Get prescription eyeballs. I had same issue, was solved quite well with PRK laser surgery. Skydiving aside, if you have been wearing glasses all of your life, it is an unbelievable feeling of freedom. Something well worth the cost. Think of all the things you will end up spending a couple of grand on. (Especially now since you are in this sport) ... Now think of how much less important those things are to you than your eyes. Used to be that early laser eye surgery couldn't fix your problem, but unless you are really poor off with your eyes, it may be doable. Get a consult at least. Think of all the money you'll save on crappy prescription sports glasses. When people rave about how great their prescription sports glasses or goggles are, all they are really raving about is that they are sooooooo great because they don't REALLY suck. That's the reality of sports and bad eyes. Trust me... at the very least it's worth getting a free consult. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  11. For me... I actually miss that fear. It was one of the reasons I got hooked on skydiving. Having that fear based adrenaline pumping and then overcoming it to huck yourself out the door of an aircraft is a pretty exhilirating experience. Now that the fear has somewhat dissipated it's just fun and expensive. A good malfunction brings back that feeling though. Trying new things also becomes pretty exciting.. I got that same (or somewhat close) feeling back the first few times I got close to someone going head down or above a 20-way with my camera. And obviously the first time I had a malfunction on borrowed (crappy) gear on a sunset (night jump) hop and pop. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  12. Thats why they all do those 3 and 400 ways then? One point? Just follow that guy... when he takes a grip, then you take a grip. Pretty simple -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  13. Those skydives look easy... what are they? One, two, maybe three points? Pssshhhhh. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  14. You don't need to know what they do with the money, you just need to know where to send it. Move along. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  15. I actually ended up with 20/15 or better.. (the chart didn't go any smaller)
  16. I guess I'm not thinking by medical terms.. what I meant was that it hurts a hell of a lot more and the recovery time is much longer.
  17. Hook line and sinker! Thank your instructors for us. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  18. See... the three people in his avatar that didn't press down on their legs have flipped up and left him hanging down there by himself! -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  19. If the instructor was really cool, he or she would flip you on your back so you could see the body shaped hole that you are punching through the cloud like Wiley Coyote! -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  20. I had PRK surgery a few years ago and I would highly recommend it to anyone who has got the itch. Having PRK instead of Lasik was a bit of a disappointment because PRK is a little more invasive and takes alot longer to heal. They told me I would be uncomfortable for a few days. Uncomfortable my ass! I was in crazy pain for 2 days and felt like a bag of shit for a month. I couldn't look at a computer screen without the contrast turned down, sunglasses and the lights of for about a month. Drops helped, but the relief dissapated quickly. That aside... I wouldn't trade the experience for anything. The only reason I am telling you that story is because I had only expected to be disturbed at work for about a week and that was not the case. It caused some real problems trying to get my work done for about a month. They might tell you otherwise, and it will most likely be better for you.. but it can happen. :) Cheers and gl. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  21. I think you just need to build the muscle memory. Sitflying is a position that you are not used to, so you need to make more of an effort to hold your body in that position. Once you become more experienced with sitflying, your muscles will be able to hold you in that position in a more relaxed state. But yes, it is more rigid. You have bigger legs than arms (I would assume), which means more drag. Your legs want to be above you, which means more work to keep them below you. Although head down is faster and more difficult to learn, once you learn how to do it, it becomes easier to be relaxed and do what you want to do than sit because your muscles are more relaxed with the bigger drag being where it wants to be.. above you. Sorry for the run on sentence. That's just my opinion, I'm not very good at either. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  22. lol... read above. You hear your flatline at 1500 and you haven't already pitched, you're gonna have a two out if you have an AAD. Guarantee you're not going straight to reserve... instinct will kick in. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  23. That's why it would be great to download your own MP3's into your dytter. 4500 - GET THE F&^K OUT OF THERE, THEY'RE ALL CRAZY!!!!!!! 3000 - OPEN YOUR PARACHUTE YOU STUPID MORON YOU'RE GONNA DIE! 1500 - Oh, that's great... now look what you've gone and done. You're gonna panic and go for your main while your CYPRES is gonna panic and go straight to reserve and now your gonna land with two parachutes out at the same time.. How embarassing is that gonna be? Look, all the ones with cameras are gathering now... they are going to get a great shot of the panic mixed with idiocy on your face and post it in the incidents forum on dropzone dot com you shmuck! Maybe you should go land by the car and then just get in and never come back. Damn you suck. Well... at least you got one more point. What'd that make it? One? Those are the MP3's that I would load into my dytter.
  24. Wow.... I would fucking LOOOOOOOSE it! I'm a bad customer to piss off though. I'm really good at staying calm untill just the right point when I start to notice that they are getting a little frazzled. Then I explode. I'm good at getting free shit. I'm also a very good tipper.
