  1. Do you really think that too many people get spotting experience if the jump plane in use is a Caravan or Otter or bigger?
  2. AFAIK several early "birdman" died with solid wings in parachuting. Did anyone believe that someone could fly with wings like a hamster? Fly hamster wings as a "normal" skydive, not a stunt? He can be a candidate for Darwin award in the worst case.
  3. The would not make more responsive. Been there, try that.
  4. I tell even students they can practice for swooping on the next jump. Not pulling any risers, but fly a good, preplanned pattern and work on landing accuracy. Those are the essentials. None is teaching basic canopy course online, find a course for yourself!
  5. +1 Neptune or Viso Viso even might agree with Optima about altitude indicated.
  6. Nice, so tomorrow I can walk on the surface on moon too.
  7. Do you have data to show that Velos are less stable than other canopies? I have not flown one but the guys I know who do swear by them in less than favorable winds. Check the pilot's input. This can happen with any other canopy in that situation.
  8. A reserve is a F111 7cell. They fly and flare differently from the ZP 9cells (and 7cells) we fly today as mains. The closest thing to landing a real reserve is landing a PD Lightning CRW canopy or if you can still find one a F111 canopy like a PD 7/9 cell, Cruislite or Raven. Almost, but low porosity material has a porosity like ZP for a couple of jumps. I'd rather compare reserves to Triathlon(ZP) or Spectre.
  9. Ask around CReW dogs. I think they are jumping Storm over and beyond WL 2.0. Good luck with that!
  10. Yes, soft links from any brand must be replaced at reline time - the soft links are exposed to slider impact during deployment which might "eat" the spectra line. When I reline a main canopy the kit includes: Mfg. line set kit, new soft links (not for Tandem or Student mains) Line Trim chart. The soft links like any link must be inspected at packing process. Saving $30 might cost you big time. Be Safe !!! I don't have any problem to replace them on wear basis.....
  11. Hadn't that guy put over 2,000 jumps on a set of slinks? If so, a failure of maintenance rather than slink design, I would say. Koji did not die, he was paralyzed. Slinks were estimeted to have 3,000 jumps on them, IIRC. 3000? Jumps? Every rigger wants to replace them along the line-set.
  12. 'Sky Bands', or 'Tube Stows' are not plain rubber band, so do do not double wrap them. Difference of what?
  13. -his body position doesn't seem to help -aren't Cobalts meant to be opened in a track ? His "good" ones are having closed end-cells. His "bad" ones look quite snappy. I got my own collection of Cobalt openings, but I was too lazy to edit them together. I prefer the fast/positive ones over those slow one coming with closed end-cells. I would not open that canopy from track if it opens in 2s.
  14. Because it works unless you smash it hard enough. You can buy gadgets later on.
  15. Than why don't you go for the german or french forums?
  16. In turn, expect others to be hypercritical of an experienced jumper who can't figure out for himself why student cypreses are a bad idea for non-students. Well, there is no dumb question, just more fun for us.
  17. Don't worry! Having a carpet and a student Cypress, you can catch up and even get more reserve activation. Means: NO
  18. Popular may be, but suitable This is not analog vs digital, rather than instrument vs gadget,
  19. Do you think that would be safer for you to land in the water than on the ground?
  20. Sorry. My bad, not in the list. Someone used some extra long bridle in BASE, he broke himself with that setup. He got permanent handycap and wheelchair. He commited suicide later. Trouble:
  21. Is giving a blanket advice without any knowledge of the facts reasonable? Too long bridle can also cause trouble, see base fatality list for example. PC is a part of the deployment system. It should be adjusted for the main canopy.
  22. This is BS. I jump X-Bird with normal bridle and 24" PC. Sorry, I have to disagree too. My worst ever skydive was with a loaner 6' bridle. I made a really good throw too, but still wound up with the pc laying on my tail like a dead duck. Coincidence? Maybe, but I won't be trying it again. I have tried so far: 32" F111 kill-line PC, 150 cm from pin to PC bridle 27(?)" ZP kill-line PC, Bird-Man branded, 240 cm from pin to PC bridle 24" ZP kill-line PC, 205 cm from pin to PC bridle. Can you find anything common from 3 above? I jumped Phantom with the first 2. I have jumped Stealth, Phatom2, V3, X-Bird with the last 2 setup.
  23. define normal ? I like my 9ft bridle, my 36'' F111 PC, and my MagBag Wow! I'm going to follow your lead and jump my next V5 or X3 with a Strong tandem drogue and bridle.
