  1. ....ha, haa, ha LOL !! Oh my god This is an excelent resoult James!!! I was happy that you landed w no damage!! See you soon. Back to problem - I have been using this packing method when I was jumping Vertigo rig and I had good resoults. Body position playing fundamental role in opening when you jumping WS. TRy few more time and let me know, this is always interesting subject though Regards RoBi Robert Pecnik [email protected] www.phoenix-fly.com
  2. Hi, To jump WingSuit with BASE rig you have to check following on your equipment: Pin rig. 1. rig MUST be in good shape and has to be in proper size for the canopy which is in side. (Yuri's pack was so loose that there was no tension on the loop, second, the lack of good protection of the bridle and pin on his rig was the reason for premature opening.) 2. Bridle and pin protection has to be in good condition and secured well. 3. pilot chute has to be secured properly regardless of the place ( PC pouch on the WS or BOC) 4. proper PC size Velcro rig. I do not recommend using this type of container. However, I was using Velcro on couple of jumps too and I am sure that out there are still some jumpers who are still jumping WS with Velcro rigs. So If anyone want to make WingSuit jump with the Velcro rig make sure to meet following : Velcro rig 1. Size of the container must be correct for the canopy which is inside. ( I saw often that Velcro rigs are on the tight side, and this should be avoided ) 2. Velcro on the shrivel flap and the Velcro on the CONTAINER FLAPS MUST be in good condition not worn out. 3 After you put the Velcro rig, bend your body forward and put your hand down to the legs and check if shrivel stays in place. 4. Proper size of the PC. ( As the force needed to open the container is higher on the Velcro, better would be to have PC which is bit bigger. Usually I am jumping with 36'' and for Velcro I would go w 38'' for example. ) 5. Proper placing of the bridle and PC. I noticed that Pin rigs becoming more and more popular . This is good for WS and luckily there is not so much cases were jumpers coming to the edge with wrong equipment. One more time I am saying that I do recommend PIN not Velcro , but if someone has desire to jump Velcro - OK, but make sure to meet above mentioned standards. 3. Hi James, In order to avoid line twist or pack twist get the dynamic corners. :-) Ok. joke. If you have rig without the open corners than while you packing the canopy in the rig be careful about the placing. Pack job has to placed perfectly symmetrical and on axe with the rig. Also place the Tail pocket in the middle of the rig. Don't place the tail pocket all the way down to rig's corners. This way of placing the tail pocket will ensure that the heavier part of the pack job which is the tail pocket will probubly avoid corners of your rig and will not be hoocked and rolled to side. 4. ... line over were steering lines goes over the back side of the canopy are happening more often than we expect or think. Luckily it clear by it self during the opening even more often robibird Robert Pecnik [email protected] www.phoenix-fly.com

  6. Hi guys, I went trough the discussion quickly and all I can say is that there is so many interesting things! It is funny to see how many people trying to find ''best'' flying ''mod'' focusing on different things. Few things: Each body has different C.G. placing. This effects the flying style of every WS pilot. In short – what is the best for you does not mean that is the rule for others. That is why we need to practise. Basically BEST forward speed and lift = BEST glide ratio - we can get when we flying in the way were we primarily reducing every peace of drag! (we have to much drag anyway to deal with, cause we are just bunch of heavy -no wing fat creatures who refuse to believe that can't fly) Legs bend or straight?! Well, answer is very simple... STRAIGHT !!- why!! Having legs slightly bend , you will feel more comfortable ( no lateral stability problem, feeling that you falling slower ) but the glide ratio will not be optimal for sure, meaning – you can go faster horizontally ( having better glide ratio) Flying with legs stretched out, meaning that you will struggle with lateral stability constantly, because when flying WS, we all are '' big flat cup surface'' flying 130 – 150 km / h trough the sky but with no vertical stabilizer!!! When we bend the legs we make channel for the air which creating stability instantly, when you relax the arms ( having them more backward) we just adding the vertical ''V'' stabilizer to out body which making all flight much easier!! Keep this in mind and play in the way you like the most. WS flying has differed ways.. ''Maximum performance flying'' - not very social at all ''Flock WS flying'' – nice but not really the place were you can say '' I was in ''max'' position''.. because as long you looking around instead of DOWN you are not flying max Pozdrav Robibird Robert Pecnik [email protected] www.phoenix-fly.com
  7. Hi, 28'' F-1-11 would be the good choice for Sabre2 135 and Javelin. Pull force is high enough and ensure proper opening. Robibird Robert Pecnik [email protected] www.phoenix-fly.com
  8. hi, I know Italy place very well. Believe my guys. The reason of having the stall problem on very end of the flight is mostly psychological. As you coming to the landing area ( especially on the first few flights ) you quit to fly even though you think that you still fly. In your head thoughts like '' just few more seconds and I am there'' are rolling. When you get over or close to landing you ( mostly) stop working on flights. Once you build up confidence on good exit, consistency of flight and flight speed just aim for new goal - go over the creek or make big ''S'' or whatever fly over, under beside the canopy. In case if stall appear earlier in flight, than the problem could be the flight technique. I saw the Craig flight and all I can say is - Super nice !!! In terms of weather.. Mostly the wind coming from North or South and effects the fight so that push your body sidways, with short periods of turbolence that is all Robibird Robert Pecnik [email protected] www.phoenix-fly.com

    Going Stowed

Agree with this what was said bellow 100%. I can't really see were is the point of using stowed on object lower than 350 ft. Exception is radical Arial, however those who are doing this are going stowed - but with PC 42'' I believe... Robibird ''It seems that everybody has forgotten a discussion going on a while ago about PC hesitation. The outcome of that discussion: basically, a combination of going stowed with a large PC and a short delay produces occasional PC hesitations that range from uncomfortable to nearly fatal. It appears to be a matter of statistics. Having seen ugly hesitations on 300'-range stowed jumps and reading many more stories, i personally don't like to go stowed under 400' or stow PCs bigger than 42". 10. ''quicker inflation, faster deployment = unvented zp'' ''less oscilliation, better onheading = vented zp'' **************************************** Hi, well, if the faster deployment caused by using non vented PC will keep you alive than reconsider to make that jump!!! Difference in inflation between vented and non vented are insignificant. Benefit of having vented PC are significant. The vented PC is in every way superior than non vented regardless of the size of the PC. my 2 c... Robi Robert Pecnik [email protected] www.phoenix-fly.com
  11. guys, I forgot smehow to mention the reason why the spandex will fail in the first place . On the rigs spandex is always against the packed canopy, this way the pandex is thight and it holding the PC firm inside of the poouch. On WS pc pouch the spandex is not against anything. That why the pouch is to loose and it is not keeping the pc in place. Robi Robert Pecnik [email protected] www.phoenix-fly.com
  12. Hi, few info regarding PC pouch. BM has tried all the option in relation of durability and safety especially. On the feeld I was testing 8 !!! diferend model of PC pouch and the one we have on the market has become the one. Spandex is not the option because of durability and safety issues. It is simply to weak. Note about the shrevel: During the testing I have jumped in all possible configuration: Shrevel was attached on the top, on the bottom, on the both sides and was also not attached at all. In all cofiguration shrevel were pulled by Pilot chute without any problem except in configuration were shrevel was attached on both sides for the bridle. Remember that the pull force ( base configuration especially) which 28''or 38'' PC producing is very high. Regards Robi Robert Pecnik [email protected] www.phoenix-fly.com
  13. Looks like nice one Obi! Do you have video? I would like to see it. I will be in Arco 31.10.-2.11. so maybe you can join me? Robert Pecnik [email protected] www.phoenix-fly.com
  14. my observation .... Regarding attempts of landing the wingsuit, much bigger wing area will be needed to generate more lift and reduce minimum airspeed. But human body has definite shape, which is not suited for flight at all, and we'll need at least few million years of evolution effort to change it to more appropriate shape for wingsuit flying. That means that wingsuit potential for more lift is limited by human inadequate shape and available strength. The only option for more lift will be some kind of rigid wings, but we already have these. They are called airplanes. Also, if you are still thinking of landing the wingsuit, do one normal parachute jump, but when you open the canopy, try to position your body horizontally (can be done by hooking your feet around rear risers) and try to land small elliptical canopy in that position. After that painful experience, multiply pain and injuries by 9 (three times the speed = nine times the forces of impact = 9 times the consequences), and decide if you are willing to give it a try. regards Robi Robert Pecnik [email protected] www.phoenix-fly.com

Hi all, How to perform the pull sequence: Wingsuit BASE jump: Because we usually flying as long as we can and as low we can we have not much altitude left for opening. Therefore, pull sequence has to be performed during full flight. Advantages of doing this way: Clean air flow around our body Less chances for PC to be caught in turbulence Clean, and usually onheading opening. Relief of having canopy above your head after nice flight. Disadvantages: Fast opening, which can void in to the 180 degree line twist. However fast opening can happen always and this should be prevented by correct packing anyway. Wingsuit SKYDIVING jump ( from flying object were we need two canopies: :) I recommend toall jumpers to slow down and pull at the moment when they are very close to stall position. Basically , I call this period ''transition period'' Reason why we can do this is simply cause we have enough altitude to burn for deployment. Also, jumping with very small canopies, opening could be really scary if pull sequence were performed during full flight. Having vertical component higher than horizontal in skydiving pull sequence can also prevent linetwist , especially to those jumpers who has no ''dynamic corners'' or open corners on their rigs. Kind regards RobiBird Robert Pecnik [email protected] www.phoenix-fly.com

  19. Hi all, Yuri was wearing S3 prototype. Suit looks similar to nowdays S3 exept the wings on the arm are 5% smaller. Also legs are too. Openings ( yuri's and mine were in the safe range - 15+ sec canopy ride. Next year I am sure we gonna fly all the way to the vally
  20. Hi, jj This was Jari!! It has happened on June 99 w the classic I. Regarding the V-tec or MDV, (in general vented canopies) I believe in this . Vents are simply helping the wing to inflate faster and as consequence of that the wing is flyable bit faster. In case that any base jumper looking for the new canopy, it is nothing than super good idea to go for vents. It can't hurt nor for W/S jumps nor for any other type of BASE jumps. Opening is slightly faster but so what!! Benefits of having the vents may help in serious situation always. It is little heavier canopy and bulky too but so what.... For us why enjoying the W/S jumps more than anything else, soon we gonna come to the point to have small, light canopies w characteristic of base canopies Regards Robi Robert Pecnik [email protected] www.phoenix-fly.com
  21. Hi all, I agree with Per! To slow down before pull sequence is just one bad thing. Look at my smoke flight in Arco and you'll be able to notice how big turbulence we have behind the body when we fly in ''fast'' mode! Clearly, you can notice the turbulence which is coming from induced drag (vortex at the tip of the wing as the resolute of the air flow from the lower surface to the upper surface of the wing because of difference in pressure.) Imagine what is happening when you slow down and put your body in ''slow'' mode. The turbulence will be huge!! that for sure is not the place were you want to place your PC in BASE jumping. Personally, I pull in ''fast'' mode ( trying to be as fast as possible ) I have Troll with no MDV and using small mash slider with double rubberband at ''C'' line. Yes, my openings are usually hard, but I rather live w this than with hesitation of my PC or canopy. This opening technique I am using for BASE jumping I do not recommend for small skydiving canopies because the swing from the pull can void you in serious line twist . Sincerely Robi
  22. Hi Gus, I can try!!! It would be interesting for few days, what you think?! Still, there is to much time were i sittingn in the chair and working too . jumping is the period of my working time which i like very much but it is not so often that i'm doing this.......... robibird Robert Pecnik [email protected] www.phoenix-fly.com
  23. Hi guys, All what I said in previous post was related more to BASE type of jumps. To measure the distance ( glide ratio, angle,Horizontal speed) from the plane is really difficult. To be accurate in that you need to have the GPS, data logger or something similar. Than you need to know the wind directions. Also the way of flight path has to be determent . In base is much easier to get the resoult of the covered distance in general. The whole different story would be to go for real 100% precise measuring. I want to say that would be good to keep in mind the data about the time but also the places were the canopy was open after the good WS flights. This will give us better picture what is common and expected distance for some objects and which would be ultimate... W respect to all RoBi Robert Pecnik [email protected] www.phoenix-fly.com
  24. Hi W/S flyers, I do not want to go in to the details, but try to concentrate more on distance you covering on your flights. This way we gonna talk about the glide ratio instead of flight time. We want to be flying machines which travel from ''A'' to ''B'', not the balloons which stays in the sky for ever. This way heavy guys will have the chance to compare theirs flights too. Nobody really measuring for how long you stay under your canopy during your way back to DZ, more important is distance you covering - right!
